<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
EMI4.1
dans laquelle R et R2 représentent l'hydrogène,
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

FORMED BY
SINTAGRO S. A. for Stable liquid composition with herbicidal activity and process for its preparation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention relates to liquid compositions having herbicidal activity, in particular liquid concentrates for emulsions consisting of a mixture of herbicidal active substances, and to a process for their preparation.
It is known that in the control of weeds existing in agricultural crops, the use of a single herbicidal active substance frequently has insufficient effects on the large number of weeds. Consequently, in order to achieve a broad field of activity, mixtures consisting of two or more herbicidal active substances are usually used. Such a mixture, which is particularly advantageous and which is used in practice, consists of a combination of substituted derivatives of 2,6-dinitraniline and derivatives of N-aryl-N'-alkoxy-urea active herbicides.
However, the physical properties of these two components frequently complicate the preparation of powders, wettables, or fluid compositions, so that the two components must be applied separately or the mixture must be made immediately before application in a tank. mixing, for example using one of the components in the form of a slurry powder and the other component in the form of a concentrate for emulsions. However, in this case, variations in concentration resulting from different deposition rates of the active components can lead to considerable damage in crops.
In addition, the two modes of application described require labor and are not very economical. We have also described in the technical literature processes for the preparation of concentrates for emulsions which are diluted with water before application and which allow a uniform dosage of the active components.
However, all of these methods have one drawback: they
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
require the use of relatively expensive solvents in high proportions and which also have phytotoxic properties which can have serious consequences on useful plants due to the relatively high concentrations.
The present invention aims to replace the solvents used previously, in particular cyclic ketones such as cyclohexanone and 3,5,5-tri-methyl-2-cyclohexene-l-one (isophorone) by more active solvents, less dangerous by their phytotoxicity and in particular more economically advantageous.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the description below.
These aims and advantages have been achieved by using unsaturated aliphatic ketones as solvents. In particular, 4-methyl-3-pentene-2-one (mesityl oxide) ideally meets the requirements.
The excellent solvent properties of unsaturated aliphatic ketones allow them to be used in admixture with conventional inexpensive solvents, for example with aromatic hydrocarbons, in much lower proportions than with the solvents described in the technical literature for the same purpose.
In addition, mesityl oxide, for example, can be obtained commercially under more advantageous conditions than the alicyclic ketones previously used.
The invention therefore relates firstly to stable liquid compositions with herbicidal activity consisting of a combination of a 2,6-di derivative
EMI3.1
nitraniline with herbicidal activity and a derivative of N-aryl-N'-alkoxy-urea with herbicidal activity, this composition being characterized in that it contains, as solvent, an unsaturated aliphatic ketone.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Among the unsaturated aliphatic ketones, mention will first be made of 4-methyl-3-pentene-2-one (mesityl oxide). Other unsaturated aliphatic ketones that can be used include 3-butene-2-one, 3-pentene-2-one, 5-methyl-4-hexene-2-one, 4-methyl-3- hexene-2-one, 6-methyl-5-heptene-2-one, 5-ethyl-4-heptene-3-one.
These unsaturated aliphatic ketones can be used as the sole solvent in herbicidal compositions. But because of their excellent solvent properties, they can be diluted, without causing the herbicidal substances to precipitate, by other known solvents, in particular aromatic hydrocarbons such as alkylbenzenes, especially o-xylene or mixtures of isomeric xylenes or toluene and halogenated benzenes and halogenated alkylbenzenes and their mixtures.
Depending on the combination of active substances, the proportion of unsaturated aliphatic ketones can be reduced up to 5% of the total solvent concentration, i.e. the unsaturated aliphatic ketone serving as a solvent can be diluted with aromatic hydrocarbons up to a ratio of 5: 95.
The compositions according to the invention contain, as active herbicidal components, at least one compound consisting of a 4-trifluoromethyl-2, 6-dinitro-aniline of formula I:
EMI4.1
in which R and R2 represent hydrogen,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
a C1-C6 alkyl or C2-C6 alkenyl group, and an N-aryl-N'-alkoxy-urea of formula II:
EMI5.1
in which R3 represents a C1-C4 alkyl group or a C-C alkenyl group, R. represents an alkyl group
EMI5.2
in CC., represents hydrogen, an alkyl group in or alkoxyalkyl in and R6 and R-represent hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms or alkoxy, haloalkoxy, alkylthio or alkyl groups containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or groups
EMI5.3
C2-C4 alkenyls.
These two active components can be combined within extended limits. The mixing proportions of 1: 10 to 10: 1 are preferably respected, more particularly 4: 1 to 1: 4. The 4-trifluoromethyl-2,6-dinitro-anilines of formula I are known herbicidal compounds. As examples of particular compounds corresponding to formula I, the following may be cited:
4-trifluoromethyl-2,6-dinitro-N, N-dipropyl-aniline

The following commercial surfactants can be used, for example: polyoxyethylenated fatty acid and sorbitan esters such as monolaurate, monopalmitate, monostearate, monooleate, tristearate and polyoxyethylene sorbitan trioleate, for example the products commercial Tween 20, HBL value 16 to 17, Tween 60, HLB value 14 to 19, Tween 80, HLB value 15, polyglycol ethers

6-dinid'alkylphenols such as nonyl- and isooctyl-phenylpoly-etnoxyethanols, alkylarylsulfonates such as iropropylnaphthalene-sulfonates, dodecylbenzene-sulfonates, etc.
To prepare the compositions, the active herbicidal components chosen are dissolved in the desired unsaturated aliphatic ketone, preferably mesityl oxide, and because of the excellent solvent properties, dilution can be carried out using conventional solvents, in particular aromatic hydrocarbons, preferably o-xylene or isomeric mixtures, in relative proportions of 5 to 95% by weight. Anionic and / or nonionic emulsifiers can be added to the mixtures at concentrations of 0.5 to 20%.
For the application, the emulsion concentrate is added with water: an aqueous emulsion is formed in which the active substances are distributed homogeneously. Dilution with water is generally carried out at a ratio of 1: 100 to 1: 800. This aqueous emulsion has a herbicidal effect with a broad field of activity. In general, the application rates are from 1 to 1 kg / ha and preferably from 3 to 5 kg / ha.
The herbicidal compositions are sprayed on the soil surface before or after weed emergence. The application is carried out before or after the emergence of cultivated plants which do not suffer any damage. The herbicidal compositions according to the invention are advantageously used in the following crops: cereals, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, peas, alfalfa, beans, pepper among others.
The examples which follow illustrate the invention without however limiting its scope; in these examples, the parts and percent indications are by weight unless otherwise stated.

methyl-2, 6-dinitro-N-ethyl-N- and 10 parts of N- (2-methylallyl) -anilinated in 40 parts of a mixture of isomeric xylenes (boiling from 160 to 1750C), 5 parts of polyoxyethylenated sorbitan monostearate and 8 parts of a polyglycol ether of nonylphenol, then mixed with 10 parts of 4-methyl-3-pentene-2-one and made up to 100 parts by the mixture of isomeric xylenes. In this case too, the mixture is heated to 50-60 ° C. to dissolve the components, cooled and filtered.
EXAMPLE 3
24 parts of 4-trifluoromethyl- 2,6-dinitro-N, N-dipropyl-aniline and 12 parts of N- (3, 4-dichlorophenyl) -N'-methoxy-N'-methyl-urea are dispersed in 40 parts of o-xylene, 8 parts of polyoxyethylenated sorbitan monostearate and 3 parts of nonylphenol polyglycol ether are added, mixed with 12 parts of 4-methyl-3-pentene-2-one and made up
