 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Pour plus de clarté, l'invention est décrite plus en détails ci-après, avec référence aux dessins illustratifs et non restrictifs annexés. Dans ces dessins : la figure   l   est une vue schématique, montrant le prin- cipe d'une presse-essoreuse selon l'invention ; la figure 2 est une vue latérale d'un exemple de réa- lisation de l'invention, avec découpe partielle ;
 EMI3.1

 "Waste wringer".

  The present invention relates to a press wringer for waste such as household waste.

  The treatment of household waste generally involves the following phases: separation of glass, metals and plastics from the mass of waste (this in the case of non-selective collection); extraction of the organic phase and composting thereof; incineration or transformation of the remaining materials.

  Various installations have been proposed to carry out these operations with the lowest possible energy defense. With this in mind, the object of the invention is to provide a press wringer intended mainly to be included in a treatment assembly, this press having the double function of extracting the largest part of the liquid fraction of waste while compacting the
 EMI2.1
 remaining "dry" part.

  Note that a press wringer has already been proposed for screening refusal and similar waste (Belgian patent n 650,132) in which the material to be treated is brought by gravity into a chamber with a perforated bottom, two opposite side walls of said chamber being movable and actuable, each by a cylinder. The approach of one of the walls towards the other causes the compression and the wringing of the material, said other wall being spread at the end of the operation to allow the evacuation of the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 compressed material.

   This known press has many disadvantages, such as: the progressive reduction of the flow section for the liquid fraction as the material is compressed; the use of counter cylinders; the possibility for part of the material contained in said chamber to be forced out of the latter during compression; very low compaction of the material, etc.

  The press wringer according to the invention has none of the above-mentioned disadvantages.

  According to the invention, a press wringer is substantially characterized by the combination of a press tank communicating with a separate compression-spin chamber, a piston being provided for transferring material from said tank into said spin chamber and to compress it, the cross-sectional area of said piston being less than that of said compression-spin chamber.

  For clarity, the invention is described in more detail below, with reference to the accompanying illustrative and non-restrictive drawings. In these drawings: FIG. 1 is a schematic view showing the principle of a press wringer according to the invention; Figure 2 is a side view of an exemplary embodiment of the invention, partially cut away;
 EMI3.1
 Figure 3 is a plan view of the press shown in Figure 2; and Figure 4 is a partial section along the line
IV-IV of figure 3.

  As shown in FIG. 1, a press according to the invention consists of a press tank 1, surmounted by a feed hopper 2, said tank communicating with a compression-spin chamber 3, the bottom of which, the oppo- wall

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 s and the wall furthest from the tank 1 are provided with liquid discharge ports, shown diagrammatically
 EMI4.1
 by reference 4.

  A piston 5 is intended to push the material contained in the tank 1 into the chamber 3 to compress it and wring it out.

  According to an important characteristic of the invention, the surface of the cross section of the piston 5 is less than that of the chamber 3, this in order to ensure optimum spinning. as shown more particularly in FIGS. 2 and 3, the piston 5 is actuated by a double-acting cylinder 6.

  A swivel plate 7, actuated by jacks 8, is provided
 EMI4.2
 at the entrance to the container 1. The purpose of this plate 7 is to pre-compress the material in the container 1 and to prevent it from being forced out of the container when the piston 5 advances.

  Two side walls of the chamber 3, parallel to the axis of the piston 5 are mounted mobile. Thus, the wall 9 is mounted at the end of a jack 10 to form an evacuation piston while the wall 11 forms a guillotine, actuated by a jack 12 (FIG. 4).

  A scraper knife 13, known per se, prevents material from being entrained by the piston 5 in its withdrawal movement.

  The feeding of the different cylinders can be very easily automated.

    It is obvious that many modifications can be made to the above-described example, without going beyond the ambit of the invention.
