Abstract

Profiles, leaving a hot rolling mill, are subjected to selective cooling so that junction zone of the profiles are cooled more intensely, pref. by means of water sprays. The method is used esp. for cooling I-beams on cooling beds and avoids formation of thermal gradient, which cause deformation of the beams, by more intense cooling of the junction zones which normally cool more slowly than the beam flanges.
