<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>

The invention relates to a therapeutic composition for the treatment of diarrhea.
In the main patent becomes a therapeutic

preferably together with at least one chemotherapeutic component and / or an antibiotic, which is active, inter alia, on bacteria of the Salmonella type
and / or protozoa of the Eimeria type and / or on Colibacillosis, optionally on worms and intestinal trichomonas. Preferably, the therapeutic composition contains lactulose and a mixture of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, especially co-trimoxazole.
It has now unexpectedly been found that lactulose is active against intestinal infections in both humans and animals, including diarrhea of any origin.
The favorable activity of lactulose against diarrhea was all the more unforeseeable since
the human therapy lactulose was known as laxative and expelling Salmonella in high dose
(accompanied by diarrhea).
Tests have shown that lactulose provides favorable results for both acute diarrhea and
against chronic diarrhea in humans and animals, provided the lactulose dose is adjusted
and is less than the dose that could cause diarrhea.
The present invention thus relates to a
<EMI ID = 3.1>
of diarrhea in humans and animals, with the essential characteristic that they act as a basic ingredient, lactulose, in
<EMI ID = 4.1>
When lactulose in the form of a syrup
is present, that syrup usually contains about 66% by weight of lactulose.
In case of acute diarrhea, it is taken together with
lactulose or lactulose syrup, according to the invention,
at least one chemotherapeutic component and / or antibiotic, which is active against intestinal infection-producing

As chemotherapeutic components
preferably uses sulfomethoxazole and trimethoprim, although other chemotherapeutics and antibiotics
are also applicable. The therapeutic composition contains according to a particular feature of the invention
<EMI ID = 6.1>
thing of 5/1.
The dose of the composition proposed according to the invention must of course be adapted to the weight of the people or animals to be treated, taking into account
the fact that the amount of lactulose must be chosen in such a way that no laxative effect occurs.
The composition used is: - Sulfomethoxazole: 20 to 60 mg per kg body weight and per day. <EMI ID = 7.1> and per day.
- Laktulose syrup: .05 to 0.3 ml per kg body weight and per day.
Tests on humans and animals (such as mammals and poultry, including pigeons, piglets and calves) have shown that the composition according to the invention gives excellent results for the treatment of acute diarrhea in general and
from intestinal infections due to pathogenic microorganisms such as Coli bacilli, Salmonella and other pathogenic microorganisms.
In the case of subacute and chronic diarrhea, the tests have shown that favorable results are obtained after treatment with a posology of about 0.05 to 0.3 ml lactulose syrup per kg body weight, divided from one to four times. However, a faster result is obtained by adding in the beginning: either a chemotherapeutic or an antibiotic or a

a sedative, or a combination of the foregoing, as appropriate. This creates the vicious circle, which is chronic diarrhea.
caused, interrupted. In the event of intestinal fermentation or serious dietary errors, it may still be useful to add a chemotherapeutic agent temporarily.
Preventionally, one can administer lacquerulose syrup against any form of diarrhea at a rate of 0.05 to
0.3 ml per kg body weight and per day, divided into one to four gifts.
The pharmaceutical composition according to the invention is administered as follows:
When the therapeutic composition according to the invention is used for treating diarrhea in animals, this composition can optionally be used with the animal foodstuffs
(such as grain, grains, flour, drink, etc.) are mixed, taking into account of course
