Fig. 1 est une vue en coupe agrandie d'une version simplifiée de l'écran; Fig. 2 illustre l'utilisation d'une forme de réalisation de l'écran pour l'examen thermographique simultané des deux seins;
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

Thermographic screen for highlighting
breast deformities.
The present invention relates to a screen for putting
thermographic evidence of abnormal states or malformations of the breasts, such as cysts, adenomas, mastitis, etc.
The object of the invention is to provide a screen by means of which any person can easily detect the thermal topography of the breasts on himself in order to observe the start of certain possibly serious anomalies.
In particular, the invention aims to put any person able to determine the thermal topography in the breast region to verify the presence or absence of an asymmetric or altered thermal state, usually resulting from a state neoplastic, and being able to immediately seek the assistance of a doctor to avoid the development of this
condition and its consequences.
The screen according to the invention consists of a sheet of a transparent flexible material and is characterized in that one of its surfaces is provided with a thermosensitive layer of liquid crystals held in place by
a suitable binder, so that when the screen is brought into contact with the desired place of the breast, the heat given off
this place is collected and that the differences in coloring conferred on the sheet as a function of the temperature
in various places reveal the altered or abnormal region.
In an advantageous embodiment, the screen for the thermographic examination of the two breasts comprises a support made of flexible material provided with an area which includes heat-sensitive layers which can thus be applied simultaneously to the two breasts.
The ends of the flexible support have notches of suitable shape constituting extensions or wings which, when held firmly in the armpits, ensure the correct positioning of the screen on the breasts during the thermographic examination.
To protect the thermosensitive layer, it is covered with a thin transparent film also conductive of heat, which also allows the cleaning and disinfection of the layer when the conditions of use require it.
The invention is described below in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing which illustrates by way of example certain advantageous embodiments of the screen according to the invention.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is an enlarged sectional view of a simplified version of the screen; Fig. 2 illustrates the use of an embodiment of the screen for the simultaneous thermographic examination of the two breasts;
<EMI ID = 1.1> Fig. 2; <EMI ID = 2.1> scale, from the screen illustrated in Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 shows in the usual way the thermographic image of the breast as it is given by the screen according to the invention, the regions of the different colors being identified by different hatching.
As shown in Fig. 1, the thermographic screen shown consists of a transparent and flexible sheet A of non-toxic and antiallergic material, the thermal properties of which are similar to those of human skin. One of the sheet surfaces carries a layer A1 of liquid crystals held in place in a suitable binder which ensures the flexibility of this layer and its adequate adhesion to the sheet A. The resulting flexible sheet can be conveniently applied and held in place on the breast by adequate pressure without permanent distortion or degradation of the crystals.
Due to the particular conditions of use of the screen, the heat-sensitive sheet A is covered with a thin film A2 of transparent material which conducts heat. The sheet A is thus effectively protected and in particular it is possible to clean and disinfect the screen using the usual means.
Depending on the thermal domain explored in each case and the desired chromatic intensity, the layer Al is formed of cholesteric and / or smectic and / or nematic crystals, in the desired proportions.
It is therefore possible to obtain a range of colors which can vary with a greater or lesser intensity in the temperature range from 25 to 48 [deg.] C, from black to dark blue passing successively through red, brown, yellow and green.
As appears from an examination of Figs. 2 to 4, the screen shown consists of a support S made of a suitable flexible material, such as fabric, paper, etc., presented in the form of a strip comprising at its ends
<EMI ID = 3.1>
S2 easy to insert under the armpit for use.
If desired, the ends of the wings S2 may include, on their posterior surfaces, zones SI + which may, in turn, be provided with self-adhesive strips holding the screen S in position during the thermographic examination.
In the illustrated case, the support S consists of two superimposed parts S and S ', the middle part of which comprises two square openings S3 each of which is capable of retaining the edges of a flexible sheet A, which closes the openings. Obviously, the support may consist of a single piece, in which case the flexible sheets A are fixed to the edges of the openings S3 by gluing or welding or by mounting a frame on the contour of each opening S3. The flexible sheet A is transparent and its internal face coming into contact with one of the breasts carries a layer Al consisting of a suitable material obtained from a solution in which the liquid crystals are in suspension in microcapsules. These crystals have different thermal sensitivities allowing them to change
staining in a range of temperatures
<EMI ID = 4.1>
In fact, when the liquid crystals are brought to the temperatures indicated above, they change more or less intensely in color and turn from black to dark blue passing successively through red, brown, yellow and green.
Because the sheets A provided with the heat-sensitive layers A1 are flexible, it is possible and advantageous to make the screen S by means of a single piece of transparent and flexible material and to constitute on the screen the
<EMI ID = 5.1>
are then protected by the transparent film A2 which is glued to the layer and therefore allows good thermal contact, while the surfaces coming into contact with the epidermis can be cleaned and disinfected in a convenient and effective manner.
The above description makes it obvious how to use the screen and, as shown in Fig. 2, the screen S is applied so that the flexible sheets completely cover the breasts by exerting a slight compression while the wings S2 are firmly held in the armpits. The contact of the breasts with the film reveals, by differences in coloring, the temperature in the places observed.
Malformations and abnormalities of the breasts can as a rule be conveniently detected in the manner described above by any person who applies the screen.

The presence of a region of thermal differentiation in the breast indicates the anomaly which is revealed by comparison with the different coloration observed at the corresponding location of the other breast.
As can be seen in Fig. 5, the following differently colored zones can be observed: a first zone IL% preponderant compared to the other zones, is influenced exclusively by the ambient temperature (18 to
20 [deg.] C) and has a dark coloring; a second zone K2 consisting of several reddish elementary zones revealing the normal temperature of the body (35 to 37 [deg.] C), these elementary zones being delimited by edges which gradually turn yellow; a third zone K3, of which all the secondary zones are colored in blue with a central part

near the edges, translates temperatures from 37 to
42 [deg.] C.
Fig. 5 also shows, in conventional form, a

It follows that depending on the extent more or

It should be noted that the screen can be provided with instructions and illustrations which make it easier to identify with a certain reliability the beginning of a malformation or anomaly of the breast.
