<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

Process for hot coating of silicon steels.
The present invention relates to a method for hot coating a material of any shape in steel.
semi-calmed or calmed or alloyed with silicon as part of the hot-dip coating.
However, in order to show more clearly the interest of the invention in question, our description will focus on the dip coating of steel products
<EMI ID = 1.1>
and this only by way of example and without this being restrictive to this particular type of application.
The usual process of galvanizing a steel product usually takes place in two phases, namely:
- a phase, known as preparation, which consists in ridding the surface of the product of all that could harm good galvanization, for example grease, sludge, oxides, dust etc ... which is generally done by a degreasing operation followed by pickling and fluxing.
In certain continuous processes, this operation is carried out by passing the product under consideration into an enclosure in which a reducing atmosphere prevails.
- a phase which consists in dipping the material thus prepared in a bath of liquid zinc at a temperature between <EMI ID = 2.1>
When a technique like this is applied
<EMI ID = 3.1>
the said steel of a zinc deposit, shiny and homogeneous, consisting of a succession of several compact intermetallic layers (Fe-Zn), covered with a layer of zinc.
However when we submit products in
semi-calmed or calmed steel or low alloyed with silicon to the galvanizing technique described above, the same favorable result is no longer obtained as that obtained with effervescent steels.
We observe the appearance of extra thickness on
the metal, the appearance of the deposit is matt gray, the adhesion is weak and there are inequalities in the formation of the intermetallic sub-layers, which constitutes significant disadvantages and may be sufficient to justify the reject of the parts thus galvanized.
Studies have made it possible to demonstrate the influence of the silicon concentration of the hot-coated steel, on the thickness of the coating obtained and this for different periods of stay of the steel in the bath of molten metal.
These studies have shown the advantage presented by the very short transition times from steel to silicon in the bath because the coating obtained is fairly constant in thickness even when the percentage of silicon varies. However, the very short passage times which would be desirable for silicon steels are not applicable in industrial practice due to the thermal stresses linked to the heating of parts of large sections, as is the case in galvanizing.
to order.
The process which is the subject of the invention does not have the defects mentioned above, and makes it possible to obtain coatings whose thickness is satisfactory and which are particularly homogeneous, and this by imposing residence times in metal baths. of coatings which are very well suited to the industrial implementation of the process.
