MACHINE VOLUMETRIQUE A PALETTES

<EMI ID=5.1>

<EMI ID=28.1>
<EMI ID=29.1>
<EMI ID=30.1>
<EMI ID=31.1>
<EMI ID=32.1>
<EMI ID=33.1>
<EMI ID=34.1>
<EMI ID=36.1>

<EMI ID=40.1>
<EMI ID=42.1>

<EMI ID=44.1>
<EMI ID=45.1>
<EMI ID=46.1>

<EMI ID=47.1>
<EMI ID=48.1>
<EMI ID=50.1>
<EMI ID=53.1>
<EMI ID=54.1>

<EMI ID=59.1>

<EMI ID=63.1>
est calculée à partir de la fonction
<EMI ID=64.1>
<EMI ID=65.1>
<EMI ID=66.1>

VOLUMETRIC PALLET MACHINE
The present invention relates to a fluid <EMI ID = 1.1> machine, operating as a motive or receiving machine.
This capsulism is essentially composed of the following elements:
- a cylindrical piston,
- a casing surrounding this piston, consisting of perpendicular flanges <EMI ID = 2.1>
- a set of pallets in contact with the piston and the casing, so as to separate the working volume between the piston and the casing into several working chambers,
- lights or valves controlled or automatic, allowing the admission and the escape of the fluid.

The object of the present invention is to widen this compromise by using an original geometric definition of the casing, possibly combined with a particular organization of the pallets, this approach leading to the production of machines with new possibilities.
<EMI ID = 5.1>
According to this object, the shell of the casing is directed by a curve at uniform distance D from a continuous curve of the order of symmetry s, successively consisting of the following arcs of curve, repeated s times:
- an arc of circumference (1) of radius (Rm - E - D), centered at a point 0 and of angular opening ai, Rm and E designating two <EMI ID = 6.1>

With these definitions and notations, the equation of the director of the shell is written:

in these expressions, p is the angle made by the external normal with respect to the axis of the abscissae ox.

<EMI ID = 18.1>
which leads to the elimination of the connecting arc (6).
Such features remain in accordance with the invention.
<EMI ID = 19.1>
<EMI ID = 20.1>
From the definition of the director which has just been given, it follows that the different arcs which constitute the curve from which it is uniformly distant, are connected to each other with a continuity of order n at least equal to two and as large as 'we wish. This can be easily seen by considering the affix (z) of any point on the curve, as well

With the casing thus defined, a cylindrical piston with circular director is associated, of radius Rm - E - J, center at 0, J designating the clearance necessary to avoid in operation the contact between these two elements, taking into account their deformations of any origin. . This piston, which rotates about its axis, is provided with p radial grooves (p any positive integer), in principle uniformly spaced, in which pallets slide which are liable to come into contact with the shell.
The resulting mechanical organization is shown by way of example in the figure of plate 1 plotted for the particular values of:
<EMI ID = 28.1>
In the example considered, the intake and exhaust

the object of the invention is maintained if the lights are arranged partially or completely in the flanges, in the pallets or in the rotor, the latter comprising in the latter two cases one or more internal chamber (s) collecting the fluid.
It is the same if the angular openings are different, if the lights are divided into several elements arranged in series or in parallel, or if they are replaced partially or completely by valves of any generally known type.
The six pallets of the machine shown in section on Plate 1 (1 to 6) define six independent chambers whose volume varies between two extreme values periodically. For the position considered in the figure and for the direction of rotation adopted, the chamber between the pallets 1 and 2 defines the dead space of the machine and provides a function
<EMI ID = 30.1>
the chambers between the pallets 2 and 4 are in communication with the intake and their volume increases with the rotation of the piston to the maximum reached by the chamber delimited by the pallets 4 and 5. In the position shown, this chamber ensures the simple transfer of the fluid from the intake to the exhaust, without variation in volume; finally, the chambers between the pallets 5 and 1 are characterized by a reduction in their volume with the rotation of the piston, they allow the discharge of the fluid towards the exhaust pipe.
By virtue of its principle, this embodiment is ideally suited for pumping or for the motive action of incompressible fluids; with other distribution arrangements, it can also provide a fluid transfer with partial or total volume compensation.
As a variant in accordance with the invention, the grooves of the rotor can be inclined by an angle i in the radial direction, in accordance with FIG. 1 of plate 2. Such an arrangement is advantageous because it allows, by a judicious choice of this value of% to reduce the inertia reactions on the pallets and consequently the stresses of which they are the seat.
The pallets used in the invention are of any geometry and material, generally known. They can optionally be made up of several elements in order to improve the lateral and / or frontal seals. It is also possible to add to these pallets any known mechanical or hydraulic device, with a view to ensuring permanent contact between the pallet and the casing, or possibly limiting the stresses of which they are the seat.
In many applications of this invention, use will be made of pallets whose spout 7 (FIG. 1 of plate 2) is an arc with a circumference of radius D. The center 0 'of this spout describes the curve which serves to define the director of
<EMI ID = 31.1>
placed by a curve 8 (figure 2 of plate 2) with variable polar radius according to a law A (X) defined with respect to a system of axes 0 "& n 65533; n in accordance with this figure. In this case, it may possibly be interesting to replace the definition (II) of the director of the shell, the equation
<EMI ID = 32.1>
In this hypothesis also in accordance with the invention, the trajectory of the center 0 "of the spout of the pallet remains identical to that of the center 0 'of a circular spout which would be in contact with a ferrule defined by equation (II).
The advantage of using such a geometry for the active part of the pallets lies in the possibility of controlling, to a certain extent, in conjunction with the choice of functions.
<EMI ID = 33.1>
Therefore improve the lubrication conditions of this contact.
x x x x
The first foundation of the invention resides in the original geometry of the casing according to the description which comes
<EMI ID = 34.1>
segmented from its director according to 2 s arcs of circumference and
4 connection arcs. Each of these segments ensures a well-defined function in the machine and is therefore optimizable <EMI ID = 35.1>
The circumference arcs allow the creation of chambers with constant volume on the only condition that the distance between two successive pallets is less than the augular opening of these arcs. In addition, these generally minimize the accelerations for which the paddles are the seat for a given displacement and a rotational speed.
The arcs of radius estimated allow the transfer of the fluid in the machine by avoiding its compression or its relaxation. Those with a minimum radius ensure sealing between the chambers placed in communication with the outside.
- Between two of these successive circumference arcs, there are two connecting arcs whose geometric definition is entirely characterized by the functions
<EMI ID = 36.1>
The choice of these functions is based on an optimization carried out according to numerical methods, in order to meet precise objectives such as for example the minimization of stresses on the pallets, the geometry of these pallets, the conformity of their contact with the shell, the law of variation of chamber volumes, the reduction in flow pulsations, .... In this type of reasoning, we call not only on local knowledge of the geometry of these arcs of curve,
but also to their overall knowledge.
The application of these numerical methods therefore implies an algebraic definition of the geometry of these arcs: a simple numerical definition would make this optimization calculation impossible, it would indeed require complete local knowledge (i.e. up to to order n) of this geometry at a large number of points, as well as the preliminary calculation of an interpolation curve which would pass through these points, and which would respect the directions of the tangents, the values of the cur-

an algebraic definition lends itself much better than a numerical definition to a discrete approximation with precision <EMI ID = 38.1>
digital. The algebraic definition of the functions Fi (6) is therefore essential to choose them wisely and desirable to materialize them conveniently.
In the machines known until now, making
<EMI ID = 39.1>
this director. These constraints are insufficient to give the machines high performance, because they do not ensure the continuity of the inertia reactions, which is the exclusive property of this invention. This continuity can also be extended at will until that of the derivatives of any order of the curvature, at these connection points.
x x x x
By an original choice of the functions Fi (6), the opening angle of the intake and exhaust lights, as well as the number of pallets, it is possible, within the framework of the first foundation of the invention, to confer machine new possibilities. The second basis of the patent lies in the orientation of these choices according to the proposal below it is possible to ensure proportionality between the instantaneous flow of the fluid and the angular speed of rotation of the piston by simultaneously imposing the following conditions:
a) the transfer of a constant volume of fluid between the intake and the exhaust implies that:
<EMI ID = 40.1>
<EMI ID = 41.1> the aspirated and discharged flows implies, for infinitely thin pallets, that the angular openings of the intake and exhaust ports are respectively defined by:
<EMI ID = 42.1>
<EMI ID = 43.1>
<EMI ID = 44.1>
<EMI ID = 45.1>
<EMI ID = 46.1>
x x x x
<EMI ID = 47.1>
from their definition intervals, by imposing that p is an even number and that s is an odd number, it is possible to maintain in relative rest, two diametrically opposite vanes in the rotor, which constitutes the third basis of the patent.
The relative rest of these pallets implies that:
<EMI ID = 48.1>
using the curve corresponding to equation II or IV for the ferrule director, depending on the shape of the pallet spout. When we make a machine according to this particularity, we can then replace the classic arrangement of pallets
(Figure 1 of Plate 3) by one of the provisions shown, by way of nonlimiting examples, on the same plate in Figures 2 to 7, in accordance with the first foundation of the invention. The arrangement of Figure 2 provides for the communication of two opposite grooves; a chamber whose volume is invariable is thus interposed between two opposite pallets, which cancels the variations in the hydraulic forces in the grooves, due to the sliding movement of the pallets, and improves the seal between the pallet and the piston.
Ur.e such arrangement also allows the communication of the grooves with the high pressure without prompting # <EMI ID = 49.1> opposite pallets).
In order to reduce the dynamic stresses on the pallets, they can be extended so as to bring their center of mass closer to the axis of rotation of the piston. Such an arrangement is shown in Figure 4; this has the additional advantage of producing an angle t defined by the proportions of such pallets.
It is also possible to replace two opposite pallets arranged in the same groove by a single pallet in accordance with FIG. 5. The figures of plate 4 represent a machine produced according to this organization. The length of
<EMI ID = 50.1>
In order to improve the sealing of the pallets in contact with the shell, a roller can be added at their tops, which, for well-chosen tolerances in contact with the pallet - roller, makes it possible to substitute a bearing for the sliding of the spout of the pallet on the casing (Figure 6 of Plate 3). Such operation is ensured thanks to the difference in dynamic stresses on the rollers and on the pallet. In. further limiting the extent of pallet-roller contact, the wear of the rollers is significantly reduced and lubrication is simplified.
We can still split each contact by systematically using two juxtaposed pallets, one of them then ensures sealing in a conventional manner and the second acts like a scraper segment (FIG. 7 of plate 3).
<EMI ID = 51.1> Figure 6 of plate 3 can be replaced by one or more sealing segments according to the figures on plate <EMI ID = 52.1> the casing. These additional segments can be rigid or with limited deformation depending on the material, possibly composite, of which they are made (FIG. 1 of plate 6).
Finally, to reduce the stress on the pallet - ferrule contact, or to avoid this contact when using a roller or additional sealing segments, the pallets can be dragged on one or more auxiliary tracks compatible with the geometry pallets and that of the ferrule, in accordance with Figure 2 of Plate 6.
It is also possible to interpose between the pallets and these tracks rollers in order to substitute a bearing for this sliding.
. These different types of sealing can be supplemented, when the need arises, by mechanical or hydraulic devices in order to maintain or control in all circumstances the contact of these elements with the casing which contains them.
It appears that the conditions imposed on the geometry of the casing in this third foundation of the invention are not incompatible with the second foundation which gives access to the proportional flow / speed of rotation.
It is therefore particularly interesting to combine these two foundations to access a definition of the essential elements of a machine that offers a set of new possibilities, and we will show below the process to follow to achieve this objective.
The reasoning will apply to a particular case
<EMI ID = 53.1>
<EMI ID = 54.1>
which can only be satisfied for k = 1 by virtue of the relation III.
We then obtain the following values of the limits ai
<EMI ID = 55.1>
<EMI ID = 56.1>
IX:
<EMI ID = 57.1>
Relations VII allow to write:
<EMI ID = 58.1>
If we impose continuity of curvature at the ends of the connection arcs, we must check:
<EMI ID = 59.1>
Conditions IX, X and XI can be simultaneously
<EMI ID = 60.1>
<EMI ID = 61.1>

It is finally possible within the framework of the first three foundations of the invention to split the machine by using an annular piston (plate 7) and by housing inside this piston 9 a cam 10 whose geometric definition follows directly from that of the housing Il and is written:
<EMI ID = 62.1>
relation in which C represents a positive quantity, A *
<EMI ID = 63.1>
is calculated from the function
<EMI ID = 64.1>
<EMI ID = 65.1>
This creates between the housing 11 and the piston 9, as well as between this piston and the cam 10 two internal capsulisms to one another, using the same paddles. These have a beak shape defined respectively by A
and A and have a common length C measured between the beak centers. All of the two capsulisms obtained constitute a double-effect machine.
The essential interest of such a machine, which can be produced for an order of symmetry to anyone, lies in the increase in displacement for an unchanged external bulk. Incidentally, it should also be noted that the use of single pallets for the two elementary capsulisms facilitate starting of the machine, in particular when the latter. produces mechanical energy.
By an appropriate arrangement of the distributions, the two capsulisms can be coupled in parallel (increase in flow) or in series (increase in compression or expansion ratio).
It is obvious that all the particular provisions of double-contact pallets mentioned in connection with the third foundation of the invention can in principle be used in these double-effect machines.
It is also important to note that the proportional flow / speed of rotation can be applied to this new family of annular machines, by choosing as
<EMI ID = 66.1>
In certain applications, it is possible, while retaining the same mechanical organization, to renounce the materialization of the internal capsulism, the cam in this case it only retains the function of radial stop for the pallets.
It is also possible, by providing intercommunication between the different chambers of internal capsulism
<EMI ID = 67.1> radial bearing guiding the piston 9 relative to the cam 11.
These two particular provisions are also part of the invention.
