"Method of manufacturing a pile mesh fabric,
machine for its implementation and fabric thus produced "The present invention relates to a process
manufacturing a pile mesh fabric according to which
a fabric is knitted using a knitter, fibers are incorporated into the forming stitches from a fiber distributor device located on one side of the needles
of the knitter and the fibers are blown in the direction away from the distributor device and going towards the needles and beyond.
Processes of this kind are notably executed
by means of circular knitters fitted with fiber distributing devices located outside the knitting machine and nozzles also located outside the knitting machine and blowing air from the outside towards the inside of the bed 'needles.
A process of this kind is known from American patent n [deg.] 3,226,952.
According to this known process all the fibers, which are incorporated in the fabric formed, stand on the latter in the direction of the interior of the circular knitter.
It is an object of the invention to provide a process for providing a fabric of another aspect, in which the fibers are not drawn up on the mesh fabric but rather are embedded in the mesh.
The straight fibers of fabrics produced by known methods do not all have the same height
with respect to the mesh plan. They must therefore be cut to the same length, so that the pile fabric has a flat upper surface. This is achieved by shaving. A relatively large percentage of the weight of the fibers supplied to the knitter is thus lost for the final product, which advantageously influences the cost price.
The invention also aims to remedy
this disadvantage.
To this end, the fibers incorporated in
a row of stitches in a direction opposite to the above direction, before knitting a new row of stitches adjacent to the first.
The invention also relates to a machine for carrying out the process defined above.
In this respect, the invention relates to a machine
making a pile fabric comprising means
making a knitted fabric from a thread, means for directing fibers towards these means for making the knitted fabric and incorporating these fibers into the forming knits and a nozzle distributing a current of air on the fabric in formation in the direction from the means directing the fibers
towards the means carrying out the fabric.
A machine of this kind is known according to American patent n [deg.] 3,226,952.
This known machine necessarily produces a fabric of which all the fibers stand on the same face of the fabric.
The invention aims to provide a machine for making a fabric whose fibers do not stand on
one of its faces, but lie roughly in the plane
stitches.
To this end, the machine according to the invention comprises
at least a second nozzle directed in the opposite direction to
the first and arranged downstream from where the fibers
are incorporated into the fabric.
The invention also relates to the mesh fabric
naked produced by the process defined above.
The fabric according to the invention is characterized
in that the fibers held by a mesh of a row are also held by a corresponding mesh of at least one adjacent row.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description of a manufacturing process
of a pile mesh fabric, of a machine for its implementation and of a fabric thus produced according to the invention, given below by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the attached drawings.

The figure 8 is an elevation view of a needle and the corresponding plate along a plane passing through the geometric axis of the needle bed, this plane being indicated by line VIII-VIII in FIG. 3. FIG. 9 is a elevation view of a needle and the corresponding plate along a plane passing through the geometric axis of the bed of needles, this plane being indicated by line IX-IX in FIG. 3.
FIG. 10 is a plan view of part of the pile fabric produced on the following machine
the previous figures.
In the different figures the same notations
of reference designate identical elements.
The machine for manufacturing a mesh fabric, parts of which are shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is
a circular knitter combined with a device
feeding fibers to be incorporated into the mesh fabric.
Circular knitters of this kind are known according to
US Patent No. [deg.] 3,226,952.
Only the elements necessary for understanding
of the present invention have been shown and are described below.
Said circular knitter comprises a bed of needles 1 and plates 2 which participate in the rotary movement of the cylinder 3. This mobile cylinder 3 which carries the needles which can undergo a vertical movement in this cylinder receives
a rotary movement relative to the fixed cylinder 4 around
of their common geometric axis. The fixed cylinder 4 includes
means for guiding the pins of the needles, the latter thus undergoing a vertical movement of rising and falling during their rotary movement with the movable cylinder 3. The guide 5 which is fixed relative to the fixed cylinder 4 imposes a radial movement on the plates 4 while the latter participate in the rotary movement of the movable cylinder 3. This radial movement is considered to be an advance when the plate approaches
from the geometric axis of cylinders 3 and 4 and as a step back when the plate moves away from this axis.
The eye of each needle is closed with a tab
14 when the latter is in the closed position shown in Figures 7 and 9. The eye of the needle is open when the tongue 14 is in its open position shown in Figures 5, 6 and 8. In this position the hook 16 of needle 1 can capture either thread 6
brought by the wire guide 7, or tufts of fibers 13
brought by the felling comb 8 forming the last element of the fiber feeding device.
A compressed air supply line 10 is carried
by the fixed cylinder 4. This pipe 10 supplies compressed air to the nozzles 11, the position of which is determined below.
The circular knitter described so far and in
part shown in Figure 1 does not differ from the circular knitters known for the formation of pile fabrics.
The circular knitter according to the invention and
partly shown in Figure 2 includes in addition to the nozzles
11 aforesaid blowing air from the outside to the inside of the cylinder formed by the bed of needles 1 still nozzles 12. The latter are also supplied with compressed air by line 10 and blow air through
the needle bed from the inside of the cylinder formed by the needle bed to the outside. The disposition
of these nozzles is also described below.
The needle bed extends continuously
on the periphery of the mobile cylinder 3 and moves with this cylinder. The circular knitter comprises several systems mounted with respect to the fixed cylinder 4 and each composed in particular of a device for feeding fibers terminating
by a felling comb 8, a thread guide 7, means for guiding the needles 1 in their vertical movement,
means for guiding the plates 2 in their radial movement, of a nozzle 11 and of a nozzle 12. The different systems operating in an identical manner, the operation of a
only one system is described below. The guide means being known, only their effect, i.e. moving the plates and
<EMI ID = 1.1> displacement relative to the fixed cylinder 4 in the direction of the arrows 15. The hands and the stages successively occupy the positions shown in FIGS. 5 to 9.
A needle 1 and a plate 2 arrived with the movable cylinder 3 in the position indicated by the line
V-V on the right of figure 3 occupy the positions represented
in Figure 5.
The needle 1 then occupies its upper position.
A mesh of the preformed fabric is held on the lower part of the needle rod 1 by the plate 2 which
is in its advanced position. The tongue 14 is in its open position and the hook 16 of the needle 1 captures
a tuft of fibers 13 brought by the cylinder 8 forming
felling comb. Arrived in the position indicated by
17 in figure 3 the plate moves back to occupy the position indicated in figure 6 representing the relative arrangement
elements when needle 1 and plate 2 have arrived
at the location indicated by line VI-VI in Figure 3.
Between this location and the location indicated by line VII-VII in Figure 3 the needle 1 descends until it occupies the position shown in Figure 7. At this location the tongue 14 is brought into its position closing. The
fibers 13 are then incorporated into the preformed stitch still remaining on the needle. The latter then passes
in front of the nozzle 11 which directs an air jet towards the needle bed from the outside of the bed towards the inside. As can be seen in Figure 4 the tuft of fibers 13 is thus directed inward, therefore on the side of the nozzle
12 and on the side opposite to the nozzle 11.
Deck 2 advances to the location indicated by
reference 18 to a position in which it maintains
both the last formed mesh and the tuft.
The mesh and the tuft of fibers being maintained, the needle 1 rises and the tongue 14 returns to its open position. Arrived at the place indicated by line VIII-VIII in Figure 3, the different elements occupy the position shown
in Figure 8.
At the place indicated by the reference 19 the plate
2 moves back, freeing the preformed stitch and the tuft
of fibers 13 incorporated therein. From the same place the needle 1 having captured the wire 6 descends. Tab 14 comes in
its closed position and when the needle 1 has reached its lower limit position, at the location indicated by the line IX-IX, a new stitch has formed and the various elements occupy the position shown in FIG. 9.
The needle continuing its path in the direction of
arrow 15, plate 2 advances to the place indicated by
reference 20 in FIG. 3. The plate consequently maintains the newly formed mesh.
Continuing on, always in the direction of
arrow 15, towards the following system, the needle passes in front of a nozzle 12 blowing from the inside of the cylinder constituting the needle bed outwards, as it can be seen
in Figures 2 and 4.
The tufts of fibers that are incorporated into
the newly formed meshes at the location indicated by line IX-IX have protruding parts on the
mesh fabric. Before entering the area of influence
of the nozzle 12, these parts are directed inwards
cylinders. Passing in front of the nozzle 12 these parts
are pushed out of the needle bed
following the air flow caused by the nozzle 12. Said parts of the fibers are carded by the felling comb in
the same time as freshly accepted fibers. When the needle is mounted to the place indicated by the line VV on the left of FIG. 3 and receives its upward and downward movement from the following system, it incorporates at the same time in the stitches which are formed by the new system fibers freshly admitted by the comb 8 and the parts of the fibers protruding from the meshes formed by the previous system.
The new system functions like the system whose operation has just been described.
As a result, the fibers are not erected on the mesh fabric, but are embedded in the mesh as shown in Figure 10, showing the mesh formed by the son 6 and the fibers 13 incorporated in the plane of the fabric.
It follows from the above that according to the invention is blown, through the nozzle 12, the fibers incorporated in a row of stitches in a direction opposite to that which they received previously, before a new row of stitches adjacent to the first is knitted.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made to it in particular as to the form, number and arrangement of the elements involved in its production without going outside the framework of
the present patent application.
