sont télescopées et la chaîne pyrotechnique est interrompue, respectivement non alignée;
2.- lancement : les deux parties de queue sont en exten-sion maximum et la chaîne pyrotechnique est non alignée;
la figure 1 représente un projectile selon l'invention en position de stockage et transport; la figure 2 est une coupe selon la ligne II-II de la figure 1; la figure 3 est une coupe selon la ligne III-III de la figure 2; la figure 4 est une vue du projectile selon la figure 1, en position de lancement;

<EMI ID=5.1>

<EMI ID=7.1>

"Telescopic projectile" 1
The present invention relates to a telescopic projectile such as for example a grenade intended to be launched using a rifle.
An object of the invention is to lower the cost of such projectiles by replacing the conventional firing devices (such as mechanical, electromechanical rockets and the like) for launching and fragmentation, by clearly simpler means, without prejudice. however, efficiency, reliability and operational safety.
Another object of the invention is to reduce the size of said projectiles, during their storage and / or transport.
Another object of the invention is to improve the efficiency
such projectiles, particularly in anti-personnel use.
Yet another object is to increase the sensitivity of the projectile to impact.
To this end, the invention provides a projectile having
a head extended by a tubular tail and containing an explosive charge as well as a pyrotechnic chain for the latter, projectile characterized in that said tail is produced in two telescopic parts, one of which is integral
of said head and carries with it a first part of said chain and the other part of which carries the remainder of the latter, guide means being distributed over said two parts in order to assign them relative angular positions determined as a function of their relative axial positions.
These guide means are such that the projectile can
be brought in the following states:
1.- storage and transport: the two tail parts
are telescoped and the pyrotechnic chain is interrupted, respectively not aligned;
2.- launch: the two tail parts are in maximum extension and the pyrotechnic chain is not aligned;
3.- start of trajectory: the two tail parts return to the telescoped state by performing a relative rotation bringing the alignment of the pyrotechnic chain.
4.- flight and impact: the two tail parts are telescoped and the pyrotechnic chain is aligned.
For greater clarity, an exemplary embodiment of the invention is described below, by way of illustration and without limitation, with reference to the appended drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 represents a projectile according to the invention in the storage and transport position; Figure 2 is a section along the line II-II of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a section along line III-III of Figure 2; Figure 4 is a view of the projectile according to Figure 1, in the launch position;
Figures 5-11 are sections along lines V-V
to XI-XI of Figure 4, Figure 11 being a partial section
on an enlarged scale; Figure 12 is an enlarged view of the central part of Figure 5 but from the projectile; FIG. 13 represents the front part of the projectile in the "ready to impact" position; Figure 14 is a section along the line XIV-XIV of Figure 13; and Figures 15 and 16 are partial sections along
lines XV-XV and XVI-XVI of figure 14.
The projectile shown comprises a head 1 and a
telescopic tubular tail 2 with tail 3.
The tail 2 is made in two parts, one of which - 4 is integral with the head 1 and the other of which - 5 - can slide around the first.
The front end of the part 5 is provided with a collar 6 whose shape complements that of the head 1 when the projectile is in the position of FIG. 1 or at impact.
The body of the tail part 4 constitutes the explosive charge of the projectile. This explosive is composed for example of a secondary explosive such as hexogen, octogen, pentrite, with a plastic binder such as nylon, polybutadiene, polyurethane, polyester or the like. This explosive charge can be manufactured according to one of the known methods by casting or compression depending on the type of binder. Part 5 is made of prefragmented metal.
The firing pyrotechnic chain includes,

the head 1 as well as a secondary relay 8 pressed into said explosive charge and, on the other hand, a detonator 9 and a

chosen according to their respective axial positions. In the example shown, these means consist of a set of grooves, detailed below, provided in the body of the part
4 and a finger 11, mounted on the spring 12, provided in the collar 6.
Said set of grooves comprises two grooves 13 and 14 extending along two generatrices of the body 4 and mutually spaced here by 180 [deg.].
<EMI ID = 4.1>
13 is connected to the groove 14 by a connecting groove 16.
Between the head 1 and the curved part 15 is provided a recess 17 separated from the latter by a thin wall 18.
Positioning bosses 19 and 20 are respectively provided in the bottom of the grooves 16 (Figure 11) and 15 (Figure 15).
The rear end of the part 4 is provided with a caudal part 21 serving to support, on the one hand, a shutter 22 (as described in the application
<EMI ID = 5.1>
also taking support on an annular stop 24 engaging an internal projection 25 of said part 5. A deformable safety element 26 is provided between the end of the caudal part
21 and the annular stop 24.
The flange 6 has a recess 27 intended to accom-
<EMI ID = 6.1>
the state of Figure 1 (transport).
The bore of the tail part 4 is extended by a corresponding passage 28 in the head 1, the front wall of which is provided with a circular weakening zone 29.
In the illustrated embodiment, we still notice a boss
30 in the bottom of the groove 14-and a furnace 31 in the body
<EMI ID = 7.1>
The above-described projectile is used and operates in the following manner.
In the storage-transport position (figure 1), part 5 occupies an angular position, relative to the head 1 and part 4 - such that the point 7 is located in the housing 27 (figure 3). The projectile thus has a minimum bulk and its pyrotechnic chain is misaligned (see Figure 2). -The parts 4 and 5 are mutually locked in this position by engagement of the finger 11 behind a boss
30 (FIG. 5) provided on the bottom of the groove 14.
To bring the projectile into the firing position (figures
4 and 5) the user holds the head 1 with one hand and, with the other, exerts traction on the part 5. The finger 11 crosses the above-mentioned boss and traverses the groove 14, then the groove-re 16 at end of which it is placed between the bosses 19. Manually advancing further part 5 is impossible thanks to the security element 26. The tail part 5 can now receive the barrel of a rifle used for launching.
The launch can be carried out using a special propellant cartridge or an ordinary bullet cartridge.
If the launch is carried out using a munition with
bullet, the latter will pass through shutter 22 which
will close behind it, preventing propellant gases from
<EMI ID = 8.1>
central channel, arrives in the passage 28 from the head 1 and escapes from the head 1_ by breaking the zone 29.
At the start of the blow, the head 1 - tail 4 assembly receives
all the propelling force and accelerates with respect to the tail portion 5. This causes the permanent deformation of the safety element 26, the compression of the spring 23 and the entry of the finger 11 in the groove 13. (see Figure 12) .
Immediately after departure, part 5 catches up with the whole
<EMI ID = 9.1>
spring 23, the difference in weight between the elements named and the difference in their respective aerodynamic coefficients.
The finger 11 runs through the groove 13. If during this phase, an obstacle was encountered by the projectile, the finger 11 would fracture the thin wall 18 to arrive in the recess 17. In this position, the firing of the detonator 9 does not cannot take place the latter not being aligned with the percussion
<EMI ID = 10.1>
When the finger 11 enters the groove 15, it causes the part 5 to rotate relative to the assembly

13 to 16, in which the pyrotechnic chain is aligned.
