<EMI ID=3.1>

<EMI ID=10.1>

<EMI ID=30.1>
<EMI ID=31.1>
<EMI ID=32.1>

"SAFETY DEVICE FOR AERATION OF A TANK
FUEL"
<EMI ID = 1.1>
see fuel, especially for motor vehicles.
We know the problem posed by the ventilation of a fuel tank. In fact, a gas exchange must be allowed between the latter and the atmosphere, in both directions, thus allowing the fuel level to drop in the tank as it is consumed, or else a certain expansion of the volume of fuel. under the action of an increase in its temperature, without causing overpressure or harmful depression in the enclosure.
In addition, this data must be compatible with the new safety standards, which imply a limited leakage of fuel out of the tank.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
more frequently the use of an airtight tank cap.
The present invention describes a device disposed on a bypass mounted on the tank filling pipe, essentially consisting of a membrane made of a natural or artificial elastomer resistant to hydrocarbons, pierced with slots, held between the edges of two cylindrical elements,
<EMI ID = 3.1>
brane and the edges that surround it so that they are not
the source of stresses in said membrane, which would cause the deformation of the slots and unpredictably modify the gas flow rate which passes through them.
However, the above device determines. For overpressure or
a depression inside the reservoir - of given value, an identical gas flow, but in the opposite direction, through the slots in the membrane.
However, it has been observed that, in the extreme case where the tank is completely emptied, the fuel pump continues to operate for a determined time, corresponding to the dry-out of the carburetor tank. During this period said pump delivers a volume of air per unit of time much greater than the volume

 Furthermore, it is not desirable to increase the authorized flow rate through the membrane by lengthening these slots, as this would also result in <EMI ID = 6.1>

The result is obtained by the fact that the edges of the elements constituting stops for the membrane do not determine central openings of equal diameter.
On the contrary, the opening on the side of the reservoir is substantially of a larger diameter than that on the opposite side.
Thus, in the event of internal overpressure in the reservoir, the membrane rests on the rim of small diameter. Only the central part of the slot which remains free is operational. The fluid flow, out of the reservoir, is therefore determined.
<EMI ID = 10.1>
When the fuel pump sucks in air, the membrane is then pressed against the opening of the large diameter rim; the slot is fully operational, and allows a considerably higher flow rate, avoiding any harmful depression in the tank. The diameters of the openings of the two edges considered are calculated according to the ratio of the flow rates to be provided in both directions.
According to a second variant of the invention, there is placed inside the valve body, near the membrane, provided with one or more slots, a stop on which it bears when the reservoir is in overpressure, this which has the effect of neutralizing a portion of the slits and therefore of limiting the gas flow through the membrane to a predetermined value.
The present invention will be described by way of non-limiting example to

Cn thus note that the opening, reservoir side (to the left of the figure) is appreciably of a larger diameter 'than that of the opposite side.
Another characteristic of the present improvement is that the gas exchange on either side of the membrane takes place through at least one preferably diametrical slot 25, the length of which corresponds to that of the opening of the rim 23. .
As in the first device described, the membrane 20 is mounted between the flanges 23 and 24 with an operating clearance, both radial and axial, of the order of a few tenths of a millimeter.

The valve, according to the second variant of the invention, shown at <EMI ID = 28.1> arranged between two concentric cylindrical elements 41 and 42 constituting the body of the valve.
This is positioned in the bypass of the pipe of the reservoir in such a way that the face of the membrane 40. located to the left of the figure, is subjected to the internal pressure of the reservoir while its face located to the right is subjected to the pressure. atmospheric pressure.
As according to the device of FIG. 1, the membrane 40 is made of an elastomer resistant to gasoline, the thickness of which is of the order of 5/10 of a mm. Likewise, the elements 41-42 of the valve body are preferably obtained by molding a synthetic material of the polypropylene type.
<EMI ID = 29.1> brane moves between the flanges of concentric elements 41-42 of the same diameter.
<EMI ID = 30.1>
membrane 40, there is a grid which serves as a stop for said membrane when the reservoir is at overpressure (position B '). A diametral slot 44, passing through the entire thickness of the membrane, allows gas exchange proportional to the curvature of the latter. It can therefore be seen that, in accordance with the desired effect, the flow rate will be lower in position B 'than in position A', in which no material obstacle limits the curvature of the membrane.
According to the device of Figures 13 and 14, the grid is replaced by a cross-shaped support, as can be seen in Figure 14. The membrane in this case comprises a set of slots arranged along the bisector of the empty sectors delimited by the cross 45 .
As in the previous case, the above device limits the displacement of the membrane during an overpressure in the tank (position B ') therefore the gas flow, compared to what it can be when the membrane is found in position A '.
However, an additional deformation of the membrane can occur for the highest pressures, due to its depression in the empty sectors delimited by the cross. This consequently leads to a greater opening of the slits and an increase in gas exchange.
The previous device therefore operates at several pressure stages
According to Figures 15 and 16, the membrane 40 is supported, in the presence of an overpressure in the tank (position B) on a concave partition 46 pierced with holes through which the gases from the tank escape.

previous feeling.
By this arrangement, an asymmetrical deformation of the membrane is obtained, resulting in different flow rates determined according to whether it occupies
<EMI ID = 32.1>
The device of FIGS. 17 and 18 comprises a convex supporting partition 47, on which the membrane 40 rests, which thus undergoes an original deformation corresponding to the admissible gas flow rate under pressure.
In the depression of the reservoir (position A '), the membrane 40 undergoes a deformation in the same direction, but more important, thus allowing a higher flow rate.
