<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
Method and device for introducing powdered materials into steel.
The present invention relates to a method and to a device for introducing powdered materials into liquid steel, especially when
treatment in the ladle or during casting, conventional or continuous.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
during which powdered materials are introduced into steel
liquid and is independent of the place this operation occupies in the process
of steelmaking.
The method described in the invention is therefore applicable both
during shading than during desulfurization or calming of steel.
The description of the process is given in the context of the calming of the steel during its casting in an ingot mold, it is purely illustrative and not limiting.
It is well known to steelmakers that in ingots, steels behave differently depending on the greater or lesser ease with which the gases trapped or forming in the ingots during the cooling of the liquid steel can escape or enter into combination with any element in the ingot.
The structure of the ingots and the distribution of the impurities by segregation in these ingots are, to a large extent, dependent on this gas evolution. The steelmaker therefore has every interest in slowing down the formation of blowholes in the ingots during their cooling, in order to obtain, during rolling, a product with the minimum number of defects.
Among the means of action used against training
blowholes, mention may be made of the artificial blocking of the release of gas by the introduction, into the liquid steel, of a reducing agent such as aluminum,
capable of fixing the oxygen remaining free in the steel in the form of solid inclusions. Such an operation is known as calming or stabilization,
depending on whether it is complete or partial.
One of the problems posed by this operation consists in the development of a process for effectively introducing the calming or stabilizing agents into the steel.
In this perspective, the different processes that exist can
be classified into two categories, depending on whether the calming or stabilizing agent is introduced in solid form or in liquid form.
The first category, the oldest, comprises devices thanks to which one projects, with a certain kinetic energy, solid calming agents in the liquid steel, which according to their speed and time
may reach various areas of the ingot.
An alternative is to immerse in a tank containing liquid steel, a container in which the calming agents are located.
The purpose of the container that contains these calming agents is to place them in a <EMI ID = 2.1>
container. Such a container can be formed by a material making it possible to reach a chosen zone of the steel bath before its melting; the contribution of this material not however being detrimental to the properties of the treated steel.
The second category of devices is characterized by the introduction of the calming agent in liquid form.
To achieve this introduction, we can for example prepare
a reserve of liquid steel containing a high proportion of calming agent and
draw the necessary amount to add to the mold during casting. It is also possible to have a liquid reserve of calming agent and with the aid of a suitable pumping installation, it can be introduced directly in this liquid form into the mold, also during the casting of the steel.
The devices included in the two categories mentioned above however have a serious drawback, namely their high cost.
For the devices included in the first category, it is necessary for the calming agent to be in a specific form or state, for example in the form of a wire, bar, ball, pipe, etc.
As regards the devices of the second category, the manipulations of the calming agent in the liquid state require a considerable energy expenditure and a very complex installation.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
introducing powdered materials such as calming agents into the liquid steel which do not have the drawbacks mentioned above.
The method, which is the subject of the present invention, is essentially characterized in that powdered material is introduced into the liquid steel through the interior of a tube also introduced into the liquid steel.
According to the invention, the powder, - and this term includes
a mixture of different constituents intended for identical or different metallurgical purposes, - may be in states of aggregation
very different such as shot, bullets, ...
According to an advantageous moaalité of the process according to the invention. the tube by which the powdered material is introduced into the bath of molten steel is continuously formed.
In the latter case, we will preferably choose an intro speed.
<EMI ID = 4.1>
so that the melting of the latter is not complete before it reaches the zone constituting the lower quarter of the liquid steel bath.
According to the invention, the tube intended to contain the powder is formed continuously from a metal strip, preferably of iron or aluminum.
An advantageous variant of the process according to the invention consists in using a material for the tube and / or in preparing a powder, so that several metallurgical operations can be carried out simultaneously, from the materials constituting the tube and the powder introduced into the tube. using the latter in liquid steel.
As metallurgical operations, mention will be made, by way of nonlimiting examples, of shading, deoxidation and desulfurization.
According to another advantageous variant of the process according to the invention, said tube is subjected to a reduction in section before its introduction into the liquid steel, so as to ensure closer contact between the tube itself and the filling element.
It is advantageous, when the tube is introduced into the liquid steel, to subject the latter to stirring with a neutral gas.
A further subject of the present invention is a device for implementing the method described above.
The device, object of the present invention, is essentially characterized in that it comprises means for forming a continuous metal tube and filling it with a powder, as well as means for introducing the tube thus filled into the liquid steel. , possibly after having narrowed the said tube.
