<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
D'autres buts de l'invention apparaîtront dans la description suivante avec référence aux dessins annexés dans lesquels la Fig. 1 est une vue en élévation de côté d'une longueur d'un tube suivant l'invention;
la Fig. 2 est une vue en coupe transversale de la forme d'exécution représentée à la Fig. 1;

et partiellement en coupe d'une forme d'exécution d'un tuyau respiratoire dont le tube d'arme est le tube représenté à la Fig. 3;
la Fig. 6 est une vue en coupe transversale de la forme d'exécution représentée à la Fig. 5;
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>

<EMI ID=8.1>

Tube for the transport of pressurized fluid.
The invention relates generally to a tube comprising a core tube of a reinforced pipe for conveying fluids under pressure, an external protective casing for the reinforced pipe and, more particularly, a pipe of which the core tube is such that it can carry fluids under pressure and can be used in breathing apparatus or as umbilical connection hoses.
It has already been proposed to manufacture a flexible pipe capable of transporting fluids under pressure which comprises a core tube, in plastic material or in synthetic resin reinforced with one or more layers of braided, knitted, or wound reinforcing fibrous material. helix around the core tube and a protective rubber or synthetic resin sheath. Examples of such tubes are described in the United States patent.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
nylon core and a nylon protective sheath, and in United States patent n [deg.] 3,722,550 relating to a pipe whose core tube is obtained by extrusion of a polyurethane and is reinforced by a fibrous material which adheres thereto.
US Patent No. 3,720,235 also provides a composite flexible hose suitable for use in breathing apparatus. The pipe described is
made of a core tube of plastic material or thermoplastic resin, the inner wall of which has ribs and the exterior of which is reinforced with a fibrous material. The core tube can be obtained by extruding nylon, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, polyethylene, poly (vinyl chloride), synthetic rubber or of similar materials. Although the breathing tube described in US Pat. No. 3,720,235 is preferred over conventional hoses capable of carrying fluids under pressure described in US Patents
<EMI ID = 2.1>
respiratory reels or as an umbilical tube because it does not stop the flow of fluid when it is bent or when it undergoes deformation, it has the disadvantage of requiring expensive connecting material which can be inserted in the grooves separating the ribs on the internal wall
of the soul tube.
The patent of the United States of America n [deg.] 1,928,992 describes a tube whose internal wall comprises a protuberance
of particular shape which extends into the lumen of the tube. Given the difficulty of obtaining by extrusion a tube having such a protuberance, such tubes are not commercially advantageous. US Patent No. 3,581,776 also provides a flexible insulating structure for
tubes having ribs on their internal surface which can receive pipes of varying diameter.
One of the aims of the invention is to provide a tube or core tube of a reinforced pipe intended to transport fluids under pressure and the flexibility of which is improved. Another
The object of the invention is to provide a reinforced pipe provided with an improved protective sheath. Yet another object of the invention is to provide a protective sheath for a hydraulic pipe, the gloss of which can be imposed. Yet another object of the invention is to provide a pipe which can carry fluids under pressure and which can be bent, twisted or otherwise deformed, without the fluid therein being stopped, and which can be obtained by extrusion to a industrial scale.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a pipe, the core tube of which is flexible enough so that deformation and even twisting of the pipe does not prevent fluid from flowing in the core tube. A more particular object of the invention is to provide a breathing apparatus hose, the core tube of which is provided, on its internal wall, with ribs which prevent stopping.
fluid when the core tube is compressed and the flexibility of which allows the use of a fitting, the sleeve of which must not have grooves corresponding to the internal ribs of the core tube for the seal to be ensured.
Other objects of the invention will become apparent from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of a length of a tube according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the embodiment shown in FIG. 1;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a tube serving as a core tube in a breathing tube according to the invention;

crushed;

and partially in section of an embodiment of a breathing tube, the weapon tube of which is the tube shown in FIG. 3;
Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the embodiment shown in FIG. 5;
Fig. 7 shows the embodiment of FIG. 5 as well as the fitting which is to be used to adapt the end of the pipe to a source of fluid or to an apparatus consuming fluid under pressure, and

The aforementioned objects of the invention as well as others are generally achieved by the use of a tube obtained by extrusion of a material formed of chlorinated elastomeric polyethylene and of thermoplastic elastomeric polyurethane. Tube may not be reinforced to carry fluids
at relatively low pressures, but it can be used as the core tube of a composite tube or pipe, such as
<EMI ID = 3.1>
and 3,722,550. Alternatively, it can be used as the core tube of a breathing hose. In reality, the preferred embodiment of the invention is a breathing tube, the core tube of which is obtained by extrusion of a mixture formed of chlorinated elastomer polyethylene and thermoplastic elastomeric polyurethane and of which the inner wall has ribs which are an integral part of this wall, are spaced around the circumference and extend longitudinally substantially over the entire length of the lumen to which it confers a configuration in cross-section such that the tube, even compressed or deformed, does not stop the fluid.
The tube whose inner wall is ribbed can be surrounded by a reinforcing material which gives this wall more resistance to the pressure of the fluid. The reinforcing material may be surrounded by a polymer sheath obtained by extrusion of a mixture of chlorinated elastomer polyethylene.
and thermoplastic elastomeric polyurethane.
A core tube whose internal surface has a
series of ribs can be pinched, twisted, bent or otherwise deformed without its lumen being completely closed and preventing the passage of fluid, so it can be very advantageously used as a breathing tube. In addition, a core tube obtained by extrusion of a mixture of chlorinated polyethylene and thermoplastic elastomeric polyurethane, which is the subject of the invention, can be used with a connector whose end does not necessarily have to have, on its external surface, grooves corresponding to the ribs of the internal surface of the core tube to ensure the tightness of the assembly. A tube used in breathing tubes preferably has a number
<EMI ID = 4.1>
tudinally on its inner surface to prevent, if the pipe is compressed, the ribs from fitting into the radially opposed grooves of the inner wall of the pipe and the fluid being stopped there. It is also preferable that the ribs have
in section, the shape of a truncated triangle whose base is an integral part of the wall of the tube and whose top protrudes
in the light. A tube according to the invention is flexible and
can be used as a very long breathing hose for use
marine or for land use since it can be deformed, for example twisted, when it is moved without risk of stopping the fluid.
Depending on the desired hardness of the extruded tube, the polyurethane elastomer and the chlorinated polyethylene elastomer as well as the chlorine content of the latter, the composition of the mixture can vary from about 5 to 95% by weight of chlorinated polyethylene elastomer and '' about 95% to 5% by weight of the thermoplastic elastomeric polyurethane for the manufacture of an unreinforced tube or
of a core tube and / or a hydraulic hose protection sheath, but the mixture preferably contains about 50 to 80% by weight of chlorinated elastomeric polyethylene and about 20 to 50% by weight of elastomeric polyurethane thermoplastic for the manufacture of a breathing tube core tube whose fitting does not have ribs or grooves complementary to those of the inner wall of the core tube. The compositions comprising
blends of chlorinated elastomeric polyethylene and elastomeric polyurethane have been found to have a workability superior to that of an elastomeric polyurethane used alone. The fact of adding chlorinated polyethylene elastomer to elastomeric polyurethane or to elastomeric polyurethane compositions, facilitates the extrusion of the material and increases the speed of manufacture of even complex articles, for example tubes whose inner wall has ribs , while allowing a tighter manufacturing tolerance.

in opposite directions are adhered to the core tube by adhesive, preferably by applying a synthetic elastomeric polymeric adhesive free from volatile solvent to the core tube and extruding a sheath over the assembly. The polymeric adhesive is preferably introduced into the openings formed in the fibrous reinforcing layer during its application by extrusion. He is pre-

glued to the adjacent reinforcement element. A suitable adhesive is used in this case to bond the core tube and the liner to the reinforced layer. When using braided reinforcement, the reinforcement member is preferably formed from one or more layers of fibrous material and the core tube is adhered by means of an adhesive to the layer adjacent to it, while the sheath is glued with an adhesive to the
layer adjacent to it, but the layers of fibrous material are not necessarily glued together.
The outer surface of the core tube of a pipe that is not
not intended for survival operations can be made adhesive by wetting with a suitable solvent e.g. dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, N-methylpyrrolidone or other similar solvents, provided that the amount of urethane in the mixtures in accordance with the invention is sufficient for them to acquire such adhesiveness. The fibrous reinforcing material is then disposed around the adhesive-coated outer surface of the core tube, so as to adhere thereto.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated

The sheath 12a has the surprising advantage of forming
a flexible elastomeric envelope whose gloss can be imposed, which, until now, has been difficult to achieve by using polyurethane alone, while retaining the advantages it offers for the formation of a protective sheath of 'a flexible hose. Because of the high shear rate achieved during extrusion, elastomeric polyurethane articles generally have a shiny surface, which heretofore has been difficult to control. Heretofore, in order to impose the appearance of the surface, inorganic fillers have generally been used, the shear rate reduced by slowing down the extrusion or the addition of polyurethanes.
having aromatic chain extenders. It has been discovered that, by increasing the number of parts by weight of chlorinated elastomeric polyethylene entering into compositions comprising mixtures of chlorinated elastomeric polyethylene and
elastomeric polyurethane of about 5% to 95% by weight, the appearance of the surface can change from glossy to matt, without having to reduce the shear by slowing the extrusion and avoiding the inconveniences that come with it. addition of inorganic fillers, as well as the difficulties generally associated with the use of polyurethanes comprising aromatic chain extenders.
Although it is preferable, as we have pointed out above, that the ribs 13 in the shape of a truncated triangle, located on the inner wall of the core tube 10a, are odd in number, they can also be in even number. . The cross-sectional configuration of the ribs 13 can likewise
be triangular, arcuate, or other suitable, but the ribs in the form of a truncated triangle provide the best protection against shutdown of the pressurized fluid.
The wall thickness of the tube, the thickness of the reinforcing member and the thickness of the sheath vary depending on the diameter of the tube. In the case of a core tube having an inner diameter of about 1.27 cm, the wall thickness of this core tube at the grooves may be about 0.90 mm, the fibrous element may be about 0.63 mm when
compressed between the sheath and the core tube, and the sheath may be approximately 0.76 mm. Corresponding thicknesses can
be used for tubes of smaller or larger diameter. The volume of the ribs present on the wall of the tube can
vary from tube to tube, but for a tube with an inside diameter of 1.27 cm, it is preferable that the total volume of the ribs is about 35-40% of the volume of the lumen of the
soul tube. The ribs of the core tube can all have the same dimensions, but this is not necessarily the case.
It is preferable that the tubes 10 and 10a are symmetrical
in cross section and that the ribs are arranged on their inner wall in a regular manner.
It has been found that the breathing tube according to the invention is less prone to kinking and obliteration.
of its lumen than conventional pipes with a uniform inner wall of the core tube. Best assured kink resistance is achieved by combining a core tube and sheath both made from a blend of chlorinated elastomeric polyethylene and thermoplastic elastomeric polyurethane.
The properties of the compositions which, according to the invention, comprise mixtures of chlorinated polyethylene elastomer
and thermoplastic polyurethane used in the constitution of the articles mentioned above, can be improved if desired by adequate crosslinking. Crosslinking can
be carried out by conventional means of vulcanization requiring the addition of suitable crosslinking agents, although it is preferably carried out by irradiation with the addition of crosslinking agents commonly called sensitizing agents. Irradiation with electrons is preferably used to crosslink the tube, core tube or sheath, separately or simultaneously, as is the case with composite pipes formed from a core tube and of a sheath. In addition, selective crosslinking of the composite products of the invention can be used. In this case, the composition comprising the chlorinated polyethylene elastomer and the thermoplastic polyurethane may or may not be crosslinked, while the other polymer elements of the composite product which may be crosslinked are crosslinked or not depending on the properties which it is desired to obtain.
Although the crosslinking processes described above can be applied, the use of thermoplastic polyurethane constitutes a means of improving the properties of chlorinated polyethylene elastomers which, used alone, would require this crosslinking process, in order to obtain the advantageous properties mentioned above. table below:

The above table reflects the relatively poor properties of an uncrosslinked chlorinated polyethylene elastomer compared to compositions comprising mixtures of

in accordance with the invention, which lead to advantageous properties without having to undergo additional crosslinking.
The combination of polyurethanes of varying hardness
with chlorinated polyethylene elastomers of varying hardness
and variable chlorine contents makes it possible to make the compositions suitable for the manufacture of the above products, while conferring a flexibility similar to that obtained with elastomers, the sealing effect described above and the desired degree of gloss, that thermoplastic polyurethanes alone do not generally offer.
