<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>
<EMI ID=7.1>
<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=9.1>

appropriate and a die having an orifice corresponding to the section of the punch, taking into account the thickness of the cup, and to force the blank into the die by means of the punch.
In order, during the stamping operation, to prevent the edges of the blank from rising and wrinkling, these are usually resiliently pressed against the wall of the die by means of a suitable metal crown. , called a blank holder. This way the blank stays tight between
the die and the blank holder. during stamping and its deformation is accomplished much more easily, without wrinkling of the sheet.
Such a procedure, if it leads to obtaining a cup substantially of the desired shape, however has drawbacks.

such defects as usable.
Stampers then looked for specific means, if not to remove these defects, at least to reduce them in a proportion
<EMI ID = 5.1>
A remedy of an entirely different type from those indicated above was then proposed.
This remedy consisted, before stamping, in filling the die using an incompressible fluid; therefore, forcing the sheet into the die by means of the punch forced the incompressible fluid to escape '' the hearth
<EMI ID = 6.1>
However, it was found that the improvements thus obtained did not extend, for obvious reasons, to the upper face of the blank, which, as a result of its stamping, has become its internal face; in fact, the interposition of the aforementioned fluid could not relate to the “blank holder” interface - upper face of the blank.
The object of the present invention is precisely a process by which this latter drawback can be overcome during the stamping operation.
The method, object of the present invention, in which, during a stamping operation, use is made of a blank holder holding the
<EMI ID = 7.1>
is essentially characterized in that during all or part of this stamping operation, a fluid, preferably incompressible, is injected between said part and the blank holder, with an appropriate pressure to constitute and maintain a lubricating film between the part and the blank holder, over the largest possible portion of their contact surface.
According to an advantageous operational modality of this process, another injection of fluid is carried out simultaneously with the aforesaid injection, arranged between the die and the blank, during the stamping in question and

and a corresponding blank holder, is essentially characterized in that the blank holder is provided with at least one duct, opening on the blank side
as close as possible to the internal edge of said blank holder, and in that it comprises means for supplying this conduit with an incompressible fluid.
According to an interesting variant of this device, the guide in which the punch slides during the stamping operation is provided at its end on the output side with an annular seal, sealingly surrounding the punch during the movement of the latter, which prevents any leakage of the fluid into the space between the punch and its guide; said fluid is thus forced to flow only between the blank and the blank holder, thereby ensuring the lubrication of the upper face of the blank during the stamping operation.
According to an advantageous form of this device, the die is itself filled with an incompressible fluid of which it constitutes at least in part the reservoir, fluid forced between itself and the blank during stamping, said reservoir being moreover provided with a pipe connecting it to the inlet orifices of the conduits formed in the hold-down, said conduit being provided with a pressure regulator, making it possible to adjust the pressure of the fluid in said conduits to the value desired.
The diagram below, given by way of nonlimiting example and
not to scale, makes it possible to see how one can conceive in principle a device conforming to that of the invention.
This device relates to the case of stamping a cylindrical metal cup; in this diagram, the circular flat sheet metal to be stamped
is in 1, the punch in 2, the die in 3. This die 3 comprises a re-

10 and 11, the pipe 12, the pressure regulator 13 and the tank 4.
During the operation of the device, the punch 2 by moving along the arrow 14 drives the sheet 1 in the die 3 through the opening 5 '. The incompressible fluid contained in the reservoir 4 escapes on the one hand between the punch and the blank by following the arrows 15, 16, 17, and on the other hand between the blank holder 8 and the blank 1 by the regulator 13, the pipes 12,
10 and 11 according to the arrows 18, the conduits 9 and the arrows 19. The presence of the seal 7 prevents the fluid from escaping in a direction other than that provided according to the arrows 19. The position of the conduits 9 is sufficiently close to the punch so that the major part of the sheet is stamped before the orifices of the outermost ducts 9 are no longer masked by the blank, and that consequently, the protective effect due to the pressure of the fluid is no longer ensured.
