Description

 <EMI ID=1.1>

The present invention relates to a method for the controlled cooling of metallurgical products, and in particular of wires, bars and flat products, such as sheets, in particular made of steel.

Numerous controlled cooling processes have already been developed, the aim of which is to give metallurgical products a microstructure and mechanical properties comparable to those obtained, for example, by well-known lead patenting treatments. These cooling processes are generally implemented at the outlet of the last rolling stand and consist in placing the products which are at high temperature in contact with a medium whose heat transfer coefficient is very high. The applicant has himself already recommended using a medium consisting of an aqueous solution and in particular a hot water bath maintained at its boiling temperature, but other media are known, such as for example a salt spray. or not, a fluidized bed, etc ...

The value of the heat transfer coefficient of the cooling medium is fundamental in such processes to achieve the desired result.

Numerous experiments are still carried out all over the world, with a view to improving the heat exchange of the various media used, because these are complex phenomena in which a large number of factors intervene. Some solutions have been found, but they

teuses, or excessively complicate the operation.

The object of the present invention is a method making it possible to remedy these drawbacks.

The method, object of the present invention, in which a controlled cooling is subjected to metallurgical products such as wires, bars or sheets by immersing them in a bath maintained at an adequate temperature, for example a water bath maintained hot

at its boiling point, is essentially characterized in that it causes the stirring of said bath. during the operation.

This way of acting improves the heat transfer coefficient of said bath, which, in certain applications; allows better cooling control.

According to the invention, the stirring is applied to a boiling aqueous bath.

Also according to the invention, the bath can be stirred by means of mechanical means.

According to a variant of the invention, the bath is stirred by means of a fluid, for example by means of nozzles submerged in said bath.
