<EMI ID=5.1>

"Process for producing a prestressed concrete beam, apparatus for this purpose and beam thus produced".
The invention relates to a method for producing a prestressed concrete beam comprising a sole intended to be compressed by the external stresses, a sole intended to be put in tension by the external stresses and a web extending between these two flanges.
The aim of the invention is to improve sensitive- <EMI ID = 1.1>
So-called prestressing fords, in particular by increasing the moment of inertia of the section and allowing the beam to better participate in the work of the structure under the effect of external loads.
The object of the invention is also, given the susceptibility to corrosion of conventional prestressing reinforcements, to propose specific measures, the correct choice of which determines the duration of the works carried out according to this technique.
It is in fact known that, despite the constant improvements in the techniques used in this field, the phenomenon of corrosion remains particularly dangerous when using small diameter wires or strands, strongly tensioned as they are commonly used for cables. prestressed concrete constructions. In practice, the steels used have an elastic limit of the order of 150 to 170 Kg / mm <2>.
The object of the invention is therefore also to remedy these latter drawbacks and to carry out a process.
which can be implemented without resorting to particularly expensive equipment.
To this end, the reinforcement intended to be put under tension in the sole intended to be put in tension by the external stresses is produced by making use of crenellated reinforcing bars whose diameter is between 20 and
50 mm. and whose elastic limit varies between 40 and 60 Kg / mm <2>.
In a particular embodiment, additional use is made of wires and strands used in accordance with current techniques and whose diameter does not exceed 15 mm.
Preferably, reinforcing bars of naturally hard steel are used.

Other details and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description which will be given below of a method for producing a prestressed concrete beam according to the invention. This description is given only by way of example and does not limit the invention. Reference notations relate to the attached figures.
Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of a beam according to the invention. FIG. 2 schematically shows the apparatus used for energizing the reinforcements used in accordance with the invention.
The beam shown in figure 1 is given
for example and comprises, once completed, an upper sole 1 intended to be compressed by external stresses and a lower sole 2 intended to be put
in traction by external stresses, the web 3 of the beam extending between these two flanges.
When making the beam using
of conventional formwork in the factory or on the site, use is made, according to the invention, to apply the prestressing, of steel bars 4 crenellated, the diameter of which varies between 20 and
50 mm. and whose elastic limit varies between 40 and 60 Kg / mm <2>. Tests have shown that these bars do not have to undergo any prior treatment and that one can advantageously use
naturally hard steel bars.
Using the apparatus which will be described later, it is possible to put under tension these bars with a diameter appreciably larger than that of the steels commonly used - <EMI ID = 3.1>
hardened, .the tension of these bars embedded directly in the; mass can be released by steel adhesion -
<EMI ID = 4.1>
and 98% of this limit whereas for the small diameter reinforcements recommended until now, the corresponding value is between 75 and 80%.
An important advantage of adopting naturally hard steel bars is the low relaxation of these steels, less than 1% after extremely long periods.
The reinforcements normally used in prestressing give a

Fatigue tests show that reinforcing bars made of naturally hard steel, put in pre-stressing tension, can be used in the construction of structures
'art such as railway bridges for example.
The bars of large diameter (20 -50 mm), slightly tensioned, as recommended here, are superior in terms of the problem of corrosion to the reinforcements currently in use, which is especially interesting for partially prestressed constructions.
The losses of prestressing by shrinkage and creep could be calculated, as well as the various limit states, thanks to recent standards. The data from the calculations and the measurements resulting from the tests show an astonishing agreement between the known data and those which result from the tests due to the applications of the method according to the invention.
Apart from 4 big diameter rebar
<EMI ID = 6.1>
the sole 2 subjected to traction by external stresses, the beam can also be fitted with wires or strands
5 which have the characteristics of the wires and strands generally used in current prestressing technique.
In certain cases, the beam according to the invention could receive passive reinforcing bars 6.
Finally, provision is made incidentally and, according to the requirements of the work to be carried out, a postcon = sling 7 reinforcement which is generally made up of prestressing cables which can be considered as conventional given their widespread use to date in current prestressing structures .
The large diameter bars used for stressing a beam according to the invention can be rolled to a length of about 40 m and these bars can be put to the desired tension using the apparatus shown schematically at Figure 2, apparatus-
--lage which also represents an essential element of the invention.
This apparatus consists of two cross members 8 and 9 between which are interposed side members 10 and jacks 11. The reinforcing elements are anchored by one end on the cross member 8 which can be regarded as. the fixed element of the equipment while their other ends are anchored on the cross member 9. In fact, the anchoring elements are stretched between the cross members 8 and 9 and anchored thereon. Each frame element is tensioned separately by a jack. or in accordance with any other known technique for this purpose. The anchoring members 12 placed at the ends of the frame elements regulate the degree of tension of these elements.
The anchoring members 13-arranged at the ends of the reinforcing elements' cooperating with the cross member 8 only act as retaining members which must be removed when the pressure of the cylinders 11 has been gradually released.
The equipment placed on the ground or on a base allows the construction of a formwork of any shape or size in which the reinforcing bars can be arranged according to any scheme. Once the tensioning of these has been completed, the reinforcement of the passive reinforcements 6 may be put in place. As soon as the concrete poured into the formwork has reached a satisfactory hardening point, the traction exerted on the bars is gradually released. reinforcing elements by releasing the jacks 11.
It will be understood that, for practical reasons, the longitudinal members 10 can be formed by the assembly of individual elements, which would obviously make it easy to move the constituent elements of the apparatus for tensioning the reinforcing elements.
The transport of this switchgear and its installation on site do not pose any particular technical problem. The casting of the anchor block, which cannot be done in any place and in any condition, is an expensive operation, which has become unnecessary. The transportation of large rebar is a problem that can be solved without exceptional difficulties.
The invention is obviously not limited to the embodiment which has just been described and many modifications could be made to it without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
