présente invention ; la figure 9 représente en coupe et en position ouverte les éléments essentiels d'une machine perfectionnée assurant la fermeture d'un réceptacle telle que représentée à la figure 8;
les figures 10 et 11 représentent, respectivement, une vue en direction des flèches F10 et Fil de la figure 9;
les figures 12, 13 et 14, représentent, à plus grande échelle, respectivement, une coupe selon les lignes XII-XII, XIII-XIII et XIV-XIV de la figure 10; la figure 15 représente à échelle agrandie une coupe selon la ligne XV-XV de la figure 11; la figure 16 est semblable à la figure 9, l'appareil étant représenté dans une position intermédiaire; la figure 17 représente à plus grande échelle la partie indiquée en F17 à la figure 16;
les figures 18 et 19 sont semblables à la figure 17, l'appareil étant représenté dans.deux phases caractéristiques de son fonctionnement; la figure 20 est semblable à la figure 9 ou 16, la machine étant représentée en position finale; la figure 21 représente à échelle agrandie la partie indiquée en F21 à la figure 20; la figure 22 représente une coupe selon la ligne XXII-XXII de la figure 20; la figure 23 représente à échelle agrandie une coupe selon la ligne XXIII-XXIII de la figure 22;

<EMI ID=14.1>
<EMI ID=15.1>

"Machine for closing containers with metallic foil" <EMI ID = 1.1>
metering of containers using a metal foil, this machine consisting substantially of the combination of a frame resiliently supporting a table intended to receive the container to be closed, said table being arranged between profiled guides; of a cover articulated on said frame comprising an operating lever and oscillating pads conditioned so as to come into contact with said guides of the frame by moving in such a way that their edges coming into contact with the bordering edges of the sheet closure previously folded at 90 [deg.], on the same side, move inwards and slightly upwards ensuring correct crimping of the closure sheet on the container.
The machine thus designed allows extremely rapid, precise and leak-proof closing over the entire periphery of the container. However, the means used in reality only concern the specific problem of the tight closure and not the means used to ensure the comfortable and rapid subsequent removal of the cover or of the closure sheet.
The present invention relates to improvements made to this type of machine with a view to solving both the problems of closing and opening the container.
Another improvement concerns the important problem of the hourly rhythm of closing operations.
According to the present improvements, the machine can be packaged either to be supplied sheet by sheet, or to be supplied ex-reel. In both cases, the sheets are used without the obligation to first fold the edges to 90 [deg.].
The additional elements introduced into the ma-chine revealed by the main patent are such that, the closing sheet being placed on the container to be closed, the deformation of the corners is caused in order to achieve traction lugs, this first operation etanT immediately followed by an operation of crimping the sheet, at the same time, over its entire periphery and, this, under conditions such that said traction tabs are kept at a slight distance from the adjacent part of the container. The closure thus produced is such that the subsequent opening
of the container can be done very easily by biasing said traction tabs, which quickly and comfortably brings about the release of the crimped parts until the complete removal of the closure sheet.
These additional elements can obviously be of any suitable shape in proportion to the morphology and the dimensions of the containers to be closed. However, in general, these additional elements, arranged in the machine at the location of each of the corners of the container, will generally consist of a push element integral with the movable cover of the machine intended to ensure the first deformation of the tabs of the container. traction and by a stop plate integral with the table and intended to maintain said traction legs, over part of their length, at a slight distance from the adjacent part of the container. These elements

of the container.
By way of example, an improved machine according to the invention is described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 8 represents a perspective view of a receptacle of the type produced using the machine in accordance with /
present invention; FIG. 9 shows in section and in open position the essential elements of an improved machine ensuring the closing of a receptacle as shown in FIG. 8;
FIGS. 10 and 11 represent, respectively, a view in the direction of arrows F10 and Fil of FIG. 9;
Figures 12, 13 and 14 show, on a larger scale, respectively, a section along lines XII-XII, XIII-XIII and XIV-XIV of Figure 10; FIG. 15 represents on an enlarged scale a section along the line XV-XV of FIG. 11; Figure 16 is similar to Figure 9, the apparatus being shown in an intermediate position; FIG. 17 shows on a larger scale the part indicated at F17 in FIG. 16;
Figures 18 and 19 are similar to Figure 17, the apparatus being shown in two phases characteristic of its operation; Figure 20 is similar to Figure 9 or 16, the machine being shown in the final position; FIG. 21 shows on an enlarged scale the part indicated at F21 in FIG. 20; Figure 22 shows a section along the line XXII-XXII of Figure 20; FIG. 23 represents on an enlarged scale a section along the line XXIII-XXIII of FIG. 22;
Figures 24 and 25 represent, respectively,
<EMI ID = 3.1> machine with supply device. In the embodiment shown in Figures 8 to 25, the improved machine comprises a frame 1 supporting a
<EMI ID = 4.1>
such that said table 2 is permanently urged in the high position by said springs while it is capable of being lowered by a thrust force directed from top to bottom. The shapes and dimensions of said table

adjacent receptacles -R on which must be crimped the closure sheet F. Around said table 2 and integral
<EMI ID = 6.1>
one of its edges, said frame 1 has a support 10 on which bears the hinge pin 11 of a cover 12. The latter comprises a punching plate 13 and a holding plate.
<EMI ID = 7.1>
crimp 17. The cover 12 also has a lifting handle 18.
The pads 15 intended to cooperate with the guides 5 are characteristic in that the dorsal face of the branch in contact with said guides 5_ has facets determining vertices or ridges 23-24 by which said pads bear on said guides. As an additional part, in particular with a view to producing the traction lugs
<EMI ID = 8.1>
presents towards its four corners a pusher 25 whose shape
and the dimensions are such that they solicit the parties
<EMI ID = 9.1> four corners thereof by a thrust effect directed from top to bottom thus forming the start of the traction legs. A second additional element, integral with the table 2, consists of a plate 26 also arranged at the four corners, facing said push elements 25 when the latter are in their lower position.
The machine thus perfected can obviously be supplemented by any element or accessory capable of promoting its execution, operation and / or maintenance. Its operation is as follows:
considering the machine in the open position
(figure 9) a container or dish R is placed on the table
<EMI ID = 10.1>
closure F. This must not undergo any prior treatment and it is in particular superfluous to straighten the edges

in such a way (figure 20) that the cavity plate 14
<EMI ID = 12.1>
that the pads 15 come into contact with the elements of
<EMI ID = 13.1>
forced down one of the corners of the closure sheet F. By continuing the movement of the lever 9 around its axis of rotation 19, its curved finger comes into contact with the support element 8 integral with the frame 1. The table 2 is thus lowered by the pressure force exerted by the cover 12 on the RF container. During this movement the pads in contact with the guides 5 are lowered while turning slightly on themselves in such a way that the crimping tabs 17 push the bordering edges of the sheet F inwards and slightly upwards thus achieving energetic and correct crimping, at the same time, of the four edges and of the rounded corners of the closing sheet F on the container or dish R, while at the right of each of the four corners of the container thus formed is produced a pull tab 27.
The stop plates 26 are such that they have prevented said pull tabs from being firmly
<EMI ID = 14.1>
As a result, the gripping of these tabs is extremely easy, thus promoting rapid and comfortable opening of the container. The lever 9 being returned to the initial position relative to the cover 12, it suffices to raise the latter
<EMI ID = 15.1>
in order to restore the machine to a new closing operation. In order to promote the aforesaid crimping, the tongues 17 will advantageously be profiled so as to present a boss 20. In order to allow a uniform lowering of the cover 12 during the stress created by the entry into contact of the curved lower arm of the lever.
<EMI ID = 16.1>
tion 11 of the cover resting on the support 10, is engaged in a passage 21 of the cover, said passage being provided in an appendix 22 of said cover having a tip of cylindrical shape with a wall of the same curvature of said support 10. In this way the cover 12 is positively guided in its oscillating movements around the axis 11.

In the machine thus produced, the feeding takes place.
<EMI ID = 18.1> <EMI ID = 19.1>
worth the performance of the nachine are accelerated by the fact that said supply can be done ex-coil.
For this purpose it is hereby disclosed the combination of a sheet-by-sheet closing machine with non-straightened edges, a supply device proper and a cutting device. The supply system will generally be constituted in such a way as
a braking device generally by friction in order to prevent any untimely unwinding of the reel when cutting a sheet. The cutting device can be produced in any manner known per se, in particular, with the intervention of a simple or profiled blade, toothed or not, in order to promote almost instantaneous cutting.
An execution is schematized very briefly in figure 26 in which the <EMI ID = 20.1> is briefly represented.
previously described and shown in drawings 8 to 25. The cutting device is in this case produced by a blade 32
and a counter blade 33, this device causing the cutting of a sheet during the movement of lowering the cover
12 before the actual crimping operation. In this way it will suffice, to supply the machine, to exercise
<EMI ID = 21.1>
front free, for example in the presence of any witness indicating this correct position. The pulling on the sheet having ended, it suffices to actuate the machine, that is to say the cover 12 in the above-described manner, in order to successively and very rapidly cause the sheet to be cut and its crimping on the bordering edges of the container. The cover 12 of the machine being again straightened. it suffices to exert a new traction on the sheet F to bring it into the correct position and so on.
The invention relates both to these various improvements considered independently of one another and to their combination, ie. their simultaneous application on the same machine.
CLAIMS.
1.- Improvements to Belgian patent n [deg.] 817.692 relating to a machine for closing containers with the aid of a metal foil, characterized in that they consist essentially in placing the pushers on the movable cover and the plates stop on the machine table in such a way that during the crimping operation of
the metal foil on the container, a pull tab is formed at the four corners of the closed container, favoring the subsequent opening of the container.
