<EMI ID=2.1>

<EMI ID=12.1>

<EMI ID=17.1>

"Blast furnace reducing burner
or any other use
calorific reducing?
The present patent application for improvement aims to clarify the scope of the patent for invention filed on February 7
1974 for the applicant under the n [deg.] 810 825.
The invention aims to improve the conditions in any process during which the reduction of a greater or lesser quantity of oxides takes place. For this purpose at least a significant portion of the gases produced by combustion and having a significant content
of CO are reintroduced into the combustion circuit.
In the case of a blast furnace, the top gases of an <EMI ID = 1.1>
independent source.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description which will be given below of a process making it possible to improve the conditions under which combustion takes place according to the invention.
In the case of a blast furnace, we have already tried: to reduce
<EMI ID = 2.1>
go down to about 180 kg per tonne of cast iron, minimum required to ensure gas permeability and the structure of the loads when the iron material softens and melts, or the lack of calorific energy is supplemented by heat insufflation.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
or any other fuel "with oxygen.
According to the invention, the reduction of metal oxides can
<EMI ID = 4.1>
<EMI ID = 5.1>
if these were too insufficient it would be necessary to provide for their introduction from an independent source.
The blowing of CO can be done in parallel with that of other reducing fluids.
In the attached figure, the temperatures developed at the different levels decrease appreciably upwards. The evolution of the reduction process is schematically indicated therein the top gas leaves the blast furnace through the nozzles 2 to end up through the nozzle 3 to the dust collector 4 communicating with an absorbent scrubber or a catalytic separation process 5 connected by the nozzle 6 to a blower or a compressor 7 which directs the reducing gases thus recovered to the various stages in order to be blown into the blast furnace for this purpose a nozzle 8 connected to the blower 7 <EMI ID = 6.1>

<EMI ID = 8.1>
to the burners placed on the various floors of the blast furnace the oxygen necessary for the combustion of natural gas, fuel oil, heavy oil or any other fuel so as to make up for the shortage
<EMI ID = 9.1>
14 connected to this source of oxygen passes through a re-
<EMI ID = 10.1>
In the event of insufficient CO, it can be produced in an independent installation and stored in the tank 16 connected to the nozzle 6 by the pipe 17. It is also possible
<EMI ID = 11.1>
of carbon,
In the same vein, hydrogen can be introduced at this same stage, by a reforming process, by an absorbent washing process or by a catalytic preparation process, any useful reducing fraction can be recovered in the top gases.
The different floors of the blast furnace are supplied by
<EMI ID = 12.1>
the injectors 22, 23, 24 and 25 supplied with natural gas, fuel oil, heavy oil or any other fuel by by-passes of the nozzle 11 partially represented by the reference 26, the oxygen supply is effected by the nozzles 27, the introduction of CO at a temperature equal to or greater than 1000 [deg.] C is effected by the nozzles
28 which continue parallel to the nozzles 18, 19, 20 and 21 via pipes 29, 30, 31 and 32.
In the event of a sufficient supply of CO, the quantity of coke used can therefore fall into proportions never reached, thus the minimum of approximately 180 kg of coke per tonne of cast iron continuously providing a top gas free of nitrogen and composition
<EMI ID = 13.1> <EMI ID = 14.1>

floors in the blast furnace parallel to the burner.
Except the stage at the level of the crucible where the reducing burners will be permanently placed with their three elements at all other stages we can optionally use the injection
<EMI ID = 16.1>
<EMI ID = 17.1>
The method according to the invention is applied in a similar way
to the reduction of all reducible bodies which are found in the products of combustion. This is particularly the case for the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines in the exhaust circuit, from which a more or less important part of the exhaust gases containing a large quantity of CO are reintroduced.
The reintroduction of combustion gases or a fraction
of the latter containing reducing elements can also be carried out in the gas discharge circuit produced by a liquid fuel or gas burner whatever the application made of this burner.
The reintroduction of the combustion gases according to the invention
<EMI ID = 18.1>
described above and many modifications could be made without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
