<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>

<EMI ID=8.1>
<EMI ID=9.1>
<EMI ID=10.1>

<EMI ID=23.1>
<EMI ID=24.1>
<EMI ID=26.1>

of the order of 0.01 ms. In this type of electric motor, the motor shaft which drives the pulley is provided with a friction disc which is applied either on
a wheel driven by the electric motor, or on a brake using two electromagnets called the clutch coil and the brake coil. These coils absorb a current of several amps.
The classic solution to achieve rapid switching under appreciable powers consists of

approximately, and in the case of large inductive loads, production of arcs between the contacts when they open. This last drawback is particularly troublesome in the application example cited above because the arc prolongs the passage time of the current and therefore causes imprecision in the switching instant. There are certainly provisions to reduce these arcs to the detriment of one
or the other characteristic (lengthening of the switching time or of the response time, for example) but there is all in all no really effective solution to suppress the formation of an arcing between the contacts.
The invention aims to satisfactorily solve the problem of rapid and precise switching over time of large inductive loads while obviating the aforementioned drawbacks, and it more particularly relates to a device suitable for carrying out switching operations with a switching time.
of the order of a few microseconds.
The device according to the invention comprises an assembly with two thyristors, the anodes of which are connected respectively to the loads to be switched, a means being connected between the anodes of these thyristors in order to apply for a short time, at the time of starting a thyristors, a negative voltage peak at the anode of the second thyristor. This means advantageously consists of a capacitor which is discharged through a thyristor at the time of application of a starting pulse to the gate of this thyristor. This assembly is called an electronic flip-flop because it switches the current from one load to the other.
In a particular embodiment, the

The block diagram of the device according to the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in an example
of specific embodiment which will be described below.
The flip-flop comprises the two thyristors 1 and 2 whose anode A-cathode K junctions are connected in

Although the operation of a thyristor is perfectly known and should be considered as such in the field of the art, it will nevertheless be recalled in brief that the thyristor is initiated when a positive voltage pulse is applied to its trigger, and that the current which then flows through the anode-cathode circuit of the thyristor is maintained until the voltage across said anode-cathode circuit becomes zero. To avoid having to interrupt the supply voltage at terminals X and Y, an alternating or pulsed supply voltage at a determined rate could be used, but this solution has several drawbacks:
a) the command must be maintained at all times; <EMI ID = 12.1>
alternating or pulsing current; c) the fact that it is necessary to wait for the voltage to cross zero results in an imprecision of the switching time.
To avoid these drawbacks without having to interrupt the supply voltage, provision is made for:

say to switch the states of the concanded mechanism,
it suffices to apply a positive pulse to the gate G2 of thyristor 2 to initiate the latter. The entry into conduction of thyristor 2 causes a sudden discharge of capacitor 4 through thyristor 2,
which produces a sudden drop in voltage on the anode A 2 which gives rise to the appearance of a pulse

The assembly also includes a safety device intended to ensure compliance with the switching sequence and prevent the two thyristors from being simultaneously in the same state. This device consists of the capacitor 6 and the logic circuit 5 perform the logic function of union or OR function. In the particular embodiment, it-
<EMI ID = 21.1> implemented 52, the second input of which receives synchronization pulses at a predetermined rate produced by the controlled mechanism itself. The output of the AND-complemented circuit is connected through the base-collector junction of a transistor 53 to an electrode of capacitor 6 whose second electrode is connected to the anode of one of the thyristors, in this case the anode A2 of thyristor 2.
We have seen above that when one of thyristors 1 and 2 is blocked, its anode is at a high potential and that when it is conducting, its anode is at a low potential. Let us call state 1 the state corresponding to the high potential and state 0 the state corresponding to the low potential. If therefore the two thyristors 1 and 2 come to be simultaneously conductors, the two inputs of the NI-circuit 51 are at state 0 and the output of this circuit is at state 1 by definition leads of the logic circuit NI , as is well known in the art. The synchronization pulses appli- <EMI ID = 22.1>
pulses 1. Consequently, when a pulse 1 is produced at the output of the NI-circuit 51 it
it happens that at the time of occurrence of a synchronization pulse the two inputs :, of the AND-complemented circuit 52 are at state 1 and this circuit produces at its output a state signal 0, c ' that is, a low potential.

<EMI ID = 25.1> ment this thyristor. The switching sequence can then resume normally. It is obvious that the thyristor on which the safety device acts can indifferently be one or the other of the two thyristors of the assembly; the choice will depend only on the state of the mechanism in which it is desired that the mechanism be brought back automatically (state which

a disturbance of the switching sequence occurs.
It is understood that the particular embodiment of logic circuit 5 is only a specific example for which those skilled in the art can easily conceive equivalent embodiments.
