Abstract

A sheet blank, heated to a temp. at which it becomes superplastic is held close to a pipe or collector in which a pressurised fluid circulates, and the pressure of the fluid is applied to the blank through the pipe or collector to make the heated sheet take the form of a shaping surface disposed at the opposite side of the sheet to the collector. This avoids the sheet sticking to the shaping surface.
