Abstract
Oxide scale layers in high temp. atmos. are inhibited by first applying a separation layer, and then the inhibiting layer. The coated metal is dried so that the inhibiting layer does not reach a temp. above 70 degrees C. The inhibiting layer consists of 1-20 pts wt. CrO3, 1-20 pts wt Al, Zn, Cu, Ni, Co Mn, Fe, Cr, Ti, Zr, Sr, Mo, Sn, In, C, Fe3O4 and/or FeO, 5-80 pts. wt silica, porcelain, magnesia, montmorillonite, MgO-Cr2O3, MgO-SiO2, clay or dolomite, 5-120 pts wt SiO2 and 5-120 pts wt soluble glass. The inhibiting layer also contains 0.5-5 pts wt bentonite, The separation layer contains Ba, Ca, Al, Mn, Cr, Cu, Mg, Nb, P, Si, Ti, Zr, Co, Cd, K, Li, Sr, Zn, Na, V, Bi, W, and/or Fe, or their oxides, carbonates or cpds esp. B4O7, HB4O7--, HSO4-, SO4--, S2O7--, HS2O7--, P2O7--, HP2O7-, H2PO4-, HPO4--, PO4--, H3BO3 and/or B2O3. The inhibiting layer is applied at the rate of more than 0.03 kg/m2, and the separation layer at the rate of more than 0.05 mole/m2.
