Abstract
Title cpds. are of formula (I) (where R = PhCH2) and are prepd. from (II) by (a) condensing (II) or a reactive deriv. with an optically active amine R1NH2, to give the cyclic imide (III) (b) reducing (III) e.g. with NaBH4 to give the optically active 3-amino 4-hydroxymethyl compd. (IV); (c) hydrolysing and cyclising (IV) with base or (pref.) acid, to give the lactone (V); (d) reacting (V) with NaSH-CS2 or with P2S5 - imidazole to base, to give the thiolactone (I).
