Abstract

The roll assembly comprises (a) a hollow roller pref. rotatable about a horizontal axis, and having an external cylindrical surface constituting the heating part which is arranged to come into contact with the metal strip to be heated, (b) one or more burners mounted on a support permitting this to be located in a posn within the rollers where they can heat its internal surface, (c) means for rotating the roller in synchronism with the speed of advance of the metal strip and for bringing the latter into contact with the heating surface of the roller at least when this surface is at the required temp.
