carboxylic esters are of formula (I) where R' = H or Me; R2 = H, hal or alkyl; R3 = H, hal, alkyl (is not = R2) or carboxy with >=2C if R2 = Me; or R2R3C = a cycloalkylene residue with >=1 exocyclic double bond; with the proviso's that R1=R2=H when R1 = Me, and R3 >=2C with R1= R2 = H; and R = H, alkyl, PhCH2C triple bond CCH2- or PhOCH2C triple bond CCH2-, where Z = O, S, CH2, CO, Y = H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or aryl or furyl opt. substd. in the ring by >=1 alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy or hal; R7 and R8 = H, alkyl, or alkenyl, R9 = H or Me; R10 and R11 = H or alkyl; R12 = an organic residue with an unsatd. C-C bond alpha to the CH2 gp., A is an aromatic. dihydro or tetrahydro ring; X1-X4 = H, Cl or Me; Z3 = CH2, O, CO or S, Z1 and Z2 = Cl or Me, D = H, CN or C triple bond CH; n = 0-2 and Me = CH3; with the proviso's that R is not = H, Et or allethronyl when R1 = H, R2=R3=Cl and I is racemic.
