Abstract

A scarfing system for automatically maintaining a pre-set oxygen pressure at the manifold of a scarfing unit over a wide range of flow rates, has a main pressure regulator and a pilot compensating regulator which controls the rate of oxygen flow from tehmain regulator to the manifold in response both to a manual adjustment and a feedback pressure signal from the manifold. The compensating regulator comprises a gas-tight feed-back chamber, one wall of which is a flexible diaphragm in engagement with an adjustable compression spring outside the chamber, a gas-tight valve chamber one wall of which is a flexible diaphragm in engagement with a spring loaded valve in the valve chamber arranged to admit a gas under pressure in response to an inward deflection of the latter diaphragm and thrust means arranged to move both of the diaphragms in unison in response to a force deflecting either one in the direction of the other.
