Abstract

The mild steel core is initially deposited with a layer of nickel by electroplating, electroless plating, vacuum evaporating, oxy-acetylene falme spraying, or by projection, by means of an electric arc of flame torch. The Ni acts as barrier opposing the diffusion of carbon from the mild steel into the stainless steel, before covering the core with stainless steel sheet. Used for large sized household equipment, such as refrigerators and cookers.
