Abstract
Epoxy resin compn. comprises (I) 5 to 40% wt. of a polymer contg. epoxide radicals and (II) 95 to 60% wt. of an epoxide resin having >=1.5 epoxide radicals per mol. Polymer (II) is produced by mixing (i) >=1 polymer chosen from (a) butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymers contg. 5 to 45% wt. acrylonitrile and 55 to 95% wt. butadiene (b) acrylic polymers e.g. C2 to C8 alkyl acrylates or copolymers of C4 to C8 alkyl acrylates with up to 30% Me methacrylate, (c) polyesters and (d) polyalkylene ethers, and (ii) an epoxide resin having >=1.5 epoxide radicals per mol. Polymers (i)(a), (b), (c) and (d) can contain terminal radicals of structure -OH, -SH, -COOH, -NHR and -C- NHNH2. These resins are used for encapsulating electrical connections, as adhesives for glass fibres, as substrate reinforcements etc. They have excellent tenacity properties.
