Diffusion losses of diamond grains in a metal or alloy matrix during manufacture at >=1000 degrees C are reduced by coating each grain with a layer forming a barrier to diffusion, pref. prior to addition of grains to comp. Coating is pref. of >=1% W, based on weight of grains.
