Abstract
Used on ferrous metals (strip or wire) having porous surfaces and particularly corrosion prone. First the relative micro-porosity of the steel is determined. Taking this as being 1.3 microns it has been found that effective plating can be carried by: a first layer of 15 microns thickness of cobalt alloy. A second layer of 30 microns thickness of nickel-chrome. Cobalt first layer effectively masks the surface roughness. Above are min. thicknesses for corrosion protection of ferrous surfaces.
