"Procédé de fabrication de poulies,galets,roues et autres organes à profil circulaire;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Ce procédé de fabrication procure les principaux avantages suivants: -il permet d'obtenir des poulies,galets ou autres organes,dont le prix de revient est modéré; -il permet de donner n'importe quelle forme au fond de la ou des gorges de l'organe;
Figures 1 et 2 sont des vues respectivement en élé- vation et en plan par-dessus d'une ébauche et d'une molette pour la fabrication d'une poulie dans cette ébauche;
Figure 3 est,à échelle agrandie,une vue en plan avec coupe partielle de l'ébauche pendant la première opération de moletage;
Figures 4 et 5 sont les mêmes vues respectivement en début et en fin de la deuxième opération de moletage;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"A method of manufacturing pulleys, rollers, wheels and other members with a circular profile;
Many circular profile members are produced by foundry casting or stamping, for example pulleys, rims, wheels, rollers, etc.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The first process, foundry molding, makes it possible to obtain components whose cost price is relatively low; but it has the drawback of requiring most often machining of the groove to allow the latter to have a good surface condition.
Another drawback lies in the fact that at the bottom of the grge, neck and cutaneous defects often occur which, for example, give rise to premature wear and sand which will circulate in the groove of a pulley. .
The second method, namely stamping, does not lead to the latter drawback, but still requires the groove or grooves to be machined.) In such a way that the members manufactured according to this method are expensive
The invention relates to a method which eliminates the drawbacks of the two usual procedures mentioned above and allows both the manufacture of organs which are both of excellent quality and of relatively low cost.
This process consists in making the groove or grooves of the organ by two knurling operations ,,
performed in shaud Gans the area of the fabric intended to constitute the rim of this component, one of these knurling operations opening the metal radially, and the other operation (s), performed subsequently, ensuring the shaping of the groove between two blank presses or between two rollers whose peripheral profile determines the outer profile of the groove of the pculie, of the rim, of the wheel, of the roller or other circular member.
The invention therefore relates essentially to the embedding of the rim of the pulley by knurling in a blank.

This manufacturing process provides the following main advantages: it makes it possible to obtain pulleys, rollers or other members, the cost price of which is moderate; it makes it possible to give any shape to the bottom of the groove or grooves of the organ;
-and it makes it possible to quench the groove (s) immediately after knurling, without requiring additional heating of the member whose fabric has already been heated for the two knurling operations,
The invention will be well understood, moreover, and its advantages and other characteristics will become apparent from the description which follows, with reference to the attached diagrammatic drawing. in which:
Figures 1 and 2 are elevation and plan views, respectively, over a blank and a wheel for manufacturing a pulley therein;
Figure 3 is, on an enlarged scale, a plan view with partial section of the blank during the first knurling operation;
Figures 4 and 5 are the same views respectively at the start and at the end of the second knurling operation;
Figures 6 and? are sectional views of the blank, respectively during the first and during the last knurling operation, in the case of a variant implementation of the process, which is the subject of the invention.
In Figures 1 and 2, 2 denotes a washer cut from a sheet metal blank, a washer intended for the manufacture of a pulley. For this manufacture, according to the invention, two knurling operations are performed one after the other.
The first operation is performed by means of the wheel designated by 2, turning around the periphery of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
washer 2, this wheel 1 opens the washer radially, forming two lips 2a-2b (figure 3). During this knurling operation, the washer 2 is heated at 4 and is possibly cooled at 2, the direction of rotation being that indicated by arrow 6.
After this first knurling operation which had the effect of opening the periphery of the washer 2 to give it a V-shaped groove, two symmetrical blank presses 7 and 8 are placed on either side of the washer ± , these two blank presses determine the external profile to be obtained for the groove of the pulley. With these two blank presses 9 and 8 is used in combination a wheel 2 having the profile shown in FIG. 4,
the periphery of this wheel 2 having a profile which determines the internal profile of the groove of the pulley. Figure 4 shows the 7-8 blank press-blank 2 and wheel assembly at the start of this second knurling operation. 5 shows the same assembly at the end of this second operation, the wheel 2 having given the desired shape to the periphery of the pulley, that is to say to its groove.
In the case of the variant shown in Figures 6 and
7, 10 designates the blank whose radial opening is obtained by means of the wheel 12. During this opening, the wheel is held laterally by two wheels 13 arranged symmetrically on either side of the blank. During this radial opening operation of the blank, the two wheels 13 have the sole purpose of laterally retaining the two lips 14 resulting from this opening.
During the second knurling operation thanks to which the groove of the pulley receives its final profile, the three knurls shown in
