Perfectionnements apportés à 1' alimentation de machines à
carder.
L'alimentation
<EMI ID=1.1>
Partant de ce qui précède, l'invention prévoit un procédé pour alimenter une machine à carder en matière fibreuse, caractérisé par les dispositions qui consistent à amener une masse donnée, relativement grande, de matière fibreuse, d'un récipient vers un système de pesage; à déposer ;

<EMI ID=7.1>

<EMI ID=10.1>
<EMI ID=11.1>
<EMI ID=12.1>
1) des masses de matière pesées sont délivrées successivement à un récipient en forme de cheminée, qui étira effectivement chaque tas (une quantité pesée) jusqu'à une longueur approximativement égale à la hauteur de la cheminée;

The present invention relates to the supply of carding machines with fibrous material. Food

one of the following three fundamental ways: brought
a tablecloth from a roll; supply of a mass of fibers
from a weigh hopper; or brought from a supply chimney. It is important to seek to ensure
an exactly controlled feed, as this affects ribbon formation and various problems are encountered in trying to maintain a substantially constant feed and subsequently.
a high degree of uniformity of the ribbons.
Normally, a unit weighed dose arrives on the feed apron and is advanced in the form of a
pile towards the carding machine, the weight of the unit weighing being limited by the maximum "wavelength" between successive piles. The greater the weight, the greater must
be the wavelength; however, the feed fluctuation between the peak and trough of the pile becomes more pronounced as the wavelength increases.
The main object of the present invention is to attempt to provide a uniform and exactly controlled supply of fibrous material to a carding machine, on
the basis for long-term action, all short-term feed uniformity defects being corrected if necessary by a self-leveling system of some form, either on the card or at a later stage of the process. A very important point is that, given the certainty of long-term precision, this self-leveling system can be, if necessary, of a preventive type.
Based on the foregoing, the invention provides a method for supplying a carding machine with fibrous material, characterized by the arrangements which consist in bringing a given, relatively large mass of fibrous material, from a container to a weighing system. ; to place ;
a quantity weighed, from said system, at timed intervals; correlating the aforesaid intervals with the rotational speed of rotary members which feed material to the cylinder of a carding machine; refining (in the direction specified) the aforesaid amounts of material in the direction of the feed, such that, on average, the sum of a sufficiently large number of correct amounts of refined material is equal to the sum of an equal number of initial weighed quantities, the correct quantities corresponding to the length fed to the cylinder of a carding machine by the theoretically calculated number of feed revolutions, to equal correct weighing.
The invention will be described below in a more particular manner, with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view of an embodiment of a

Fig. 4 shows a modified form of an elevator and a chimney-shaped container.
In a particular embodiment of the present invention, and as seen in FIG. 1,
uncompressed fibrous material 1 is fed from a container 2 or a hopper, by means of driven feed rollers 3, into the bat 4 of a known weighing device 5, so that successive metered quantities of this

passes to an elevator 6 leading to the chimney 6. the front; - "tière 1 is debited through a hinged bottom
or mobile 9 of the tank, or by tilting the latter.
After the metered quantity has entered the chimney 6, it is subjected to compression, in this chimney,
by means of a plunger 10, called to descend to a fixed initial level A, where it remains until it is withdrawn for the next supply cycle. Thus, the uncompressed fibrous material 1 can be packed, to form a column 11 of a given height, this compression taking place at given time intervals, said material then being delivered, through the outlet 12 of the bottom of the chimney. , to the feed conveyor device 13. To facilitate delivery, a hinged wall or the like
of the chimney 6 may be given the impression of oscillations, vibrations or other movements, the material being able to be extracted from the container by the driving of two rollers 14 which are part of two endless belt conveyors 15 and 16. The fibrous material passes through the interstice
clamping rolls 14 and bands 15, 16 and is extracted uniformly from the container, so as to run as a layer along the conveyor, until the above measured quantity has been delivered in its entirety from the delivery end of the conveyor.
It is understood that the cycle of operations for the supply of the fibrous material can be time-regulated in such a way that as soon as the quaue of a measured quantity, in the form of a column 11 initially compressed in the chimney 6, will be lowered to a given approximate position, a new quantity begins to enter the chimney 6, so that a supply
continuous can be supplied to the infeed conveyor. :
We see how, thanks to the action of the plunger 10,
which establishes a column of fibers of fixed height, at fixed intervals of time, the density of the column of fibers 11 is automatically adjusted as to its average value, all the material fed by the weighing mechanism 5
being delivered, after being measured, at intervals
longer times. In simpler terms, this meant
trust that the quantity of material contained in the chimney
<EMI ID = 7.1>
between the speed of the material extraction rollers 14
and the feed weighing intervals are correct, stack 6 will never be completely empty either *
The above arrangement makes it possible to debit, with weighing, a relatively large quantity of fibers, to
relatively infrequent intervals, while ensuring a fairly uniform feed to the endless conveyor belt. It should be noted that the accuracy of the weighing increased with the total weight per weigh, as well as with the time allocated to each weigh. In its simplest form, the weight of the material by weighing is determined by the weight of column 11 which stack 6 is able to contain.

small, through the articulated bottom 21, to the endless conveyor 7 mentioned above, to the chimney 6 and to the conveyor 13, which feeds a carding machine. Account is taken of a possible cumulative error in the weighing of the second stage of weighing, which is less precise, since it weighs smaller quantities, but at a faster rate, since there may be residual material after a determined number of weighing operations, material which must be placed on the conveyor. Adjustment can be made to correct such errors.
One way to deal with residual material is as follows: When, theoretically, n weighings from the auxiliary weighing pan 20 are required to process a full weighing from the main weighing pan 4, the first (n - 20) batches of material from the container auxiliary 17 are normally debited with weighing, after each weighing of the weighing tank
<EMI ID = 10.1>
during the nth weighing, all the material remaining in the auxiliary container is allowed to pass on the conveyor. This residual quantity 2 may represent a greater or lesser weight than that of the n - 1 batches weighed and the difference between the two weights depends on the synchronization between the two weighing bins 4 and 20. It is possible to carry out, during start-up initial adjustment to reduce this error to a minimum. The synchronization of the two weighing mechanisms is obviously established in such a way that there are n deliveries from the auxiliary receptacle 17 for each weighing of the main weighing tank 4, the main weighing tank always emptying into an auxiliary receptacle. completely empty.
Here too, the material can be delivered on the conveyor 7, raised up to the chimney 6, to be compressed there, and finally be delivered on the conveyor system 13.
As a variant, as can be seen in FIG. 3, the material is delivered: from the tank 20, in the form of a series of bundles or piles 22 laid transversely and, diagonally for example, in the transverse direction
of the conveyor belt 7, to be brought directly or successively to the carding machine. If necessary, a leveling system 23 can be placed at a determined height (which can be adjustable) above the conveyor belt 7, in order to level the piles of fibrous material.
If necessary, this material can be brought to a * "chimney, with or without a compression system, by an elevator Ô, or a forced feeding system.
As indicated in the case of the "stack feed" process, the maximum weight of material per weigh is that which column 11 can hold. In addition, to increase the long-term accuracy of the process. feed, the weight of the initial weighing must be increased and its periodicity reduced. This can now be achieved by delivering weighed quantities from a very large initial weighing pan to an auxiliary container, from which an auxiliary weighing pan sends material to a column with a compression plunger, exactly as described above. The two baôi of
<EMI ID = 11.1>
<EMI ID = 12.1>
As can be seen in fig. 4, the material fed by the conveyor 7 is lifted by two endless conveyor belts Ô and 24, which push the material into a chimney 25 and compress it, to form a column reaching level A. The chimney is provided with a wall active
26 intended to promote the removal of material from the bottom of the chimney.
When there is sufficient upper space,
one can give the chimney dimensions large enough so that the material can be introduced freely into this chimney and that it undergoes self-compression. Thus, under certain conditions, the chimney may have a sufficient height so that one does not need a settlement plunger 10.
When the level of the fibrous material in the chimney-shaped vessel shows a tendency to cumulatively "climb" with successive refills, the increasing weight of the material, which compresses on its own, gradually increases the degree of pressure. compaction of the material which enters the clamping gap of the belts 15 and 16, which has the effect of increasing the weight ratio of the material extraction, in order to restore balance.
In summary, the present invention relates to a method for longitudinally stretching (refining), in the feed direction, the material delivered from the weigh hopper system 4 or 20, which material without the intervention of the weighing hopper system 4 or 20. The invention would normally form scattered piles causing increasing variations in the sliver leaving the carding machine, given the uneven nature of the feed on the feed apron.
The refinement can be obtained by one of the following means:
1) Weighed masses of material are successively delivered to a chimney-shaped container, which effectively stretched each heap (a weighed quantity) to a length approximately equal to the height of the chimney;
2) a large initial weighed mass is delivered in small weighed quantities, which are successively delivered under
the shape of small piles of material, which successively overlap on a feed apron, the sum of each given number N of weighings being exact since this sum is the result of a heavy and long mass being the object of the initial weighing. With this method, it is necessary
or else that each Nth weighing is of the "purge" type
(that is to say, gives rise to the emptying of the container feeding the weighing tank, whatever the content), or else, that a feeler element is adopted in the container 17, for example in the form of '' a weighing system, a photoelectric system or a pneumatic system, so that
the feedback applied to the weighing system 19 prevents the gradual jamming of the container 17. Such feedback
-reaction modifies the weighing system 19, so that
. this increases the number of weighings when the container
17 has a tendency to fill in cumulatively, and
vice versa. As an alternative, a combination of methods (1) and (2) can be adopted.

self-leveling preventive system is automatically reset to zero, assuming that the power supplied to it is correct in the long term. For example, if this system is mounted on a card, this assumes that, on average,
the total flow rate through the card (including the self-leveler) is the theoretically calculated flow rate, based on a calculated feed rate and the calculated weight of the ribbon.
