<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The addition of this alkaline material allows the use of dosage forms such as capsules, tablets, dragees, etc. which can be absorbed directly by the patient, without suspension or prior solution. Thus the patient does not perceive the unpleasant taste of the fern extract, the dissolution thereof in the digestive tract being, moreover, ensured thanks to the alkaline material which acts as a solubilizing agent.
It goes without saying that one can also use a powder oonstitué of a mixture of fern extract containing tenifuge active ingredients and of an alkaline stabilizing material, this powder being dissolved or easily suspended in a drinkable liquid at the time. of its administration. In this case, the unpleasant taste of the fern extract is obviously perceived by the patient, the use of this galenic form being nevertheless advantageous, because of the stabilizing action of the alkaline material.
A variety of pharmaceutically acceptable alkaline materials can be used, but preference is given to magnesium oxide, the stabilizing and solubilizing action of which has been found to be particularly remarkable.
The amount of alkaline material to be used is variable and depends on the solubilizing and stabilizing action sought. This amount is preferably at least equal to the stoeohiometric amount necessary to neutralize the acid functions of the polyphenols contained, as active ingredients, in the fern extract. In
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
In practice, it is preferred to use 25 to 70 parts by weight of aloaline material, for example magnesium oxide, per 100 parts by weight of dry fern extract.
As the fern extract it is preferred to use that from Dryopteris austriaca, although it is also possible to use the extract of Dryopteris filix mas.
The tenifuge pharmaceutical compositions according to the invention can be presented in various forms, for example in the form of hard gelatin capsules, cachets, tablets, dragees or ampoules. The preferred form is that of a capsule containing a powder mixture of fern extract and aloaline material, such as magnesium oxide.
The dosage dose of a tenifuge pharmaceutical composition to be taken in one or more successive doses is approximately 500 mg of active principles of fern extract.
The invention is further illustrated by the following non-limiting examples

The effect of stabilization and of solubilization of magnesium oxide on the dry extract of fern was demonstrated by the following tests. The classic accelerated aging tests were able to demonstrate the stability of the preparation.
This is how samples of preparation:
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Using identical formulas, prepared on different dates and placed at temperatures of 37, 45 and 55 C, as well as at room temperature, have shown that the gravimetric dosage remains in conformity with the standards. The same is true for identifications by chromatography on paper.
The solubility of the preparation can be demonstrated as follows: qi to water, one adds determined amounts of dry extract of fern and magnesium oxide and that the mixture is subjected with a slight mechanical stirring, one observes, after some time, an almost total solubilization of the mixture which one can realize, either by the oa .. external characters of the obtained solution, or by an analytical examination comprising dosage and chromatography *
It is obvious that the invention is not limited to the details described above and that numerous modifications can be made to these details without departing from the scope of the invention.
