<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

DAMPER SIGNAL GENERATOR DEVICE
FOR SYNCHRONOUS MACHINE,
It is known that a synchronous machine can present in operation mechanical oscillations of the rotor around its mean position, the natural period of which depends on the moment of inertia of the masses in motion and on the return torque. magnetic said synchronizing torque.
It is evident that when the rotor deviates angularly from its equilibrium position, in
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
forward or backward, the maximum amplitude of the deviation can be reduced by increasing the return torque, i.e. by overexciting the machine and, conversely, when the rotor returns to its equilibrium position, if we reduces the excitation of the machine, its return speed is reduced and, consequently, the amplitude of the overshoot in the opposite direction from this equilibrium position. If therefore we have an excitation control signal acting according to the process described above, we succeed in damping the angular oscillations of the rotor.
The present invention relates to a device generating a signal intended to act on the excitation of a synchronous machine so as to over-excite it when the rotor deviates from its equilibrium position and to under-excite it when there is come back,
The device according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises, mechanically coupled to the synchronous damping machine, an auxiliary synchronous machine with the same number of poles as the main machine, having a polyphase inductor supplied by the voltage at the terminals. from this through appropriate potential transformers, and a single-phase armature providing the control signal for the excitation of the main machine,
the phases of said polyphase inductor being supplied in an order such that the rotating field that it creates is stationary by
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
relative to the armature in the absence of oscillations of the rotor of the main machine, means being provided to adjust the relative angular position of the field and of the armature.
The following description and the appended drawing relate to a particular embodiment of a device according to the invention.
The figure schematically represents a synchronous machine having a three-phase stator, 1 connected to a network 2, and a rotor 3 provided with an excitation winding 4 supplied by a source 5 provided with adjustment means acting under the action of a external signal. On the shaft of this synchronous machine is wedged the rotor 6 of a small auxiliary synchronous machine equipped with a three-phase winding 7 with the same number of poles as the main machine and supplied, via three rings 8 integral with the 'shaft, by the three-phase voltages at the terminals of the armature 1 of the main maohine, through a set 9 of potential transformers of appropriate ratio. The stator of the auxiliary maohine carries a single-phase winding 10, with the same number of poles as the rotor.
The order of succession of the power supply phases of the winding 7 is chosen such that the rotating field ongendée by the latter turns in the opposite direction to that of the rotor
6 so that in the absence of oscillations of the rotor 3
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
de'la main machire, this rotating field is fixed relative to the stator and therefore does not induce an electromotive force in the winding 10. The stator of the auxiliary machine is provided with means, not shown, making it possible to adjust its angular position so as to make the axis of the winding 10 coincide with that of the field created by the rotor, that is to say to make this winding embrace the maximum possible flux.
If the rotor of the main machine undergoes angular oscillations, it is easily conceivable that the flux embracing the winding 10 decreases as the rotor moves away from its angular position in one direction or the other, this decrease in the flux creating in this winding an electromotive force of a certain polarity and that, when it returns to its equilibrium position, the electromotive force resulting from the increase in flux takes the opposite polarity. This electromotive force is used to control the source 5 in the direction of an increase or a decrease in the excitation current of the main machine, according to its polarity, so as to obtain the damping of the angular oscillations. of the rotor.
The invention is not limited to the particular embodiment described above; one can in particular design an auxiliary machine with the three-phase inductor on the stator and the single-phase armature on the rotor, connected to the control of the excitation by means of two rings, in which case the stator would be supplied.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
so that its field rotates in the same direction as the rotor.
Other variants can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the present invention, just as the electromotive force generated in the armature of the auxiliary machine can be used for other uses than the stabilization of the mechanical oscillations of the king of the main machine. , for example retort signal measuring the speed of variation of the stator voltage of the machine and being able to be used to damp a regulator acting on the excitation of the latter.
