<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Cette solution présente les inconvénients suivants ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
longueur.
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR THE RAPID EXECUTION OF DRILLING IN ANY TERRAIN.
There are several drilling methods adapted to the nature of the terrain you want to cross.
In rocky terrain, perforation is carried out either by percussion using dry or water-driven pile-driving equipment, air or water-powered mine perforators, or by rotation using the system. rotary with clean water or mud, probes with grit, wolfram carbide or diamond tools, for example.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In soft soils, the most commonly used method is threshing using a drill bit either dry or with water injection, which eliminates the subjection of the assembly and disassembly of the sounding train for the use of the borehole cleaning curette.
When the ground lacks cohesion, it is internally secured with the aid of tubes which are driven by beating simultaneously or not with the perforation operation. Another less popular method is the use of continuous augers based on the Archimedes screw principle. These work without water supply and give very. good results from the point of view of advancement in the fields consistent or not on condition that one does not seek the exact position in depth of the sample - of surface ground.
In the case where the ground presents from top to bottom loose layers with or without cohesion alternating with rock layers and which one does not want for various reasons (too great losses, clogging of the water inlets, difficulties of installation of equipment, etc.) to use mud, a first solution in the case of piling equipment, rotary, rotary drilling rig, consists in lowering, at the same tempo as the drilling tool, a casing through the formations of different consistencies. For this, a serrated shoe protruding from the outside diameter of the tubes should be provided at the foot of the casing column.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This shoe acts as an annular cutter and should perform the same function as the air-operated mine perforator cutters.
This solution has the following drawbacks;
1. It is difficult in some land formations to impart a circular motion to the tube in order to promote the regular attack of the hoof in the soil.
2 - The shock transmitted to the shoe by the mass hitting the casing column head is damped and all the more so as the column is long where it results in an increasingly low drilling yield.
3 - In the case of land with a significant clamping force on the tubes it is impossible to push them low enough, which makes it necessary to use telescopic casings.
4 - Even in the case of land that does not have a significant clamping force on the tubes, once the drilling is finished, there is always a certain difficulty in tearing them which causes a significant loss of time,
5 - It should be noted that the use of any one of these materials with the injection of pressurized water to bring up the drilling debris causes the humidity conditions of the ground to be significantly changed. If we need to measure in situ the resistivity of the soil at depth, the results obtained are absolutely
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
wrong.
A second solution consists of the use of continuous helical augers equipped at their base with a blade bit which cuts the bottom of the hole before the material separated from the ground is taken up by the ramp of the auger.
This solution has several drawbacks:
1- In heterogeneous soils such as alluvium made up of elements of very different sizes, the tool tears off rather than wears out the elements, hence the need for an auger comprising a pitch and a large propeller wing width in order to reintegrate large elements, which unnecessarily increased drive power.
2 - The rotation speed of the helical auger is slow in order to obtain a high torque with a drive motor of reasonable power. This rotational speed is incompatible with the rapid speed required by the blade bit to achieve high perforation efficiency.
3 - In order to obtain a rapid advance of perforation in certain hard rock formations, it is advantageous to appeal to their fragility and therefore to use percussion, Unfortunately the classic helical auger does not allow this method to be used,
The present invention relates to a device
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
and a method of drilling characterized by an improved low speed helical continuous auger at the lower end of which rotates in the same direction or in the opposite direction a tool having a speed much greater than that of the auger. This tool can be animated either by a simple rotational movement, or by movements resulting from the combination of a rotation and a percussion.
A low flow water injection can be made at the foot of the tool for the purpose of lubricating it.
For this purpose, the auger, divided into elements of variable lengths, compatible with its use, assembled either by screwing, keying or any other known assembly method, comprises a hollow core on which is wound one or more turns of low protrusion by relative to the outside diameter of the hollow core.
The lower end of the auger core comprises an annular part having on its lower face serrations with inclined or rounded sides, that is to say alternating hollows and bossen to form, for example, the profile obtained with steel balls or any other material embedded in the ring at regular intervals or not.
The upper end of the core has a drive head capable of being made integral in rotation with a mechanism rotating at low speed.
The punch tool has blades
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
can work in simple rotation as well as in rotation-percussion. This tool is composed of two parts; a central part first making a centering pilot hole in the ground. An annular part, reaming the borehole to a diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of the helical auger. This part of the working tool comprises an annular internal part which is the replica of that fixed under the hollow core of the helical auger but whose profile with serrations with inclined or rounded faces is turned upwards. The two parts forming the tool are joined together by a thread or any other system ensuring their connection.
The central part of the tool, which is itself the annular part as seen, is driven by a hollow shaft, consequently having a central duct, which shaft turns inside the helical auger. . An intermediate piece can be inserted between the central part of the tool and the hollow shaft. The purpose of this is to allow the tool to benefit from a possibility of low amplitude up and down flapping without this flapping being reflected on the drive shaft. This intermediate piece can be, by way of example, similar to the sliding coupling of a splined shaft and a splined hub. The drive shaft is divided into elements of lengths corresponding to those of the elements of the auger.
In the perforation tool are formed passage holes communicating with the central duct of
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
drive shaft or intermediate piece.
The upper end of the drive shaft has a coupling part capable of joining with a drive mechanism rotating at high speed. This part is provided at its upper part with a rotating injection head which communicates via a flexible pipe with an injection pump.
At the head of the assembly, a system can allow the level of the auger to be adjusted relative to the level of the internal shaft.
The invention also extends to the methods of implementing the device and to construction details which emerge from the following description of an embodiment shown by way of example in the appended drawing in which: FIG. 1 shows , partially sectional view, the upper element of an auger intended to be mounted on a drive device - Figure 2 shows, partially in section, the element of the lower end of the auger equipped with its tools sharp; FIG. 3 shows an untralement device, the motor of which has not been shown.
As can be seen from Figures 1 and 2, a flat steel 1 is spirally wound with a small pitch on the hollow core 2 of the auger. The plate is secured to the core by welding or by any other known process.
For the easy use of this auger, it is divided into elements of more or less large
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
length. These are assembled to each other by a coupling with claws 3 and corresponding notches 4 completed by a screw 5 passing through two elements at the level of their fitting. Of course, any other known assembly system can be used. The base of the hollow core 2 of the last element (Figure 2) is terminated at its lower part by an annular part 6 made of high strength treated steel having on its lower face a serration 7 whose profile is similar to the toothing. of a ratchet wheel.
The upper part of the hollow core has a drive head 8 which, in the case of the auger head element, is secured by means of a bolt-on sleeve 9 with the shaft 10 rotating at low speed. of a training device such as that shown in FIG. 3.
The perforation tool comprises a central part 11 and an annular part 12. These two parts both bearing at their lower part blades 13 and 14 are assembled by a thread 15 or any other known system. They comprise, for the lubrication of their blades, back holes or passages 16 communicating with an axial duct 17 of the central part 11. The central part 11, whose base of the blades 13 is lower than the base of the blades 14 of the annular part 12 is intended to produce a centering pilot hole in the ground.
The central part 11 of the tool has an annular internal serration 18 made of high-strength treated steel which is similar to the serration 7
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
finishing the base of the hollow soul of the tarifera, but differing from it by the fact that it faces upwards.
The central part of the tool is secured by a thread or by any other known assembly system of a sleeve 19 capable of sliding in the hollow Orne 2. This sleeve is mounted with sliding splines 20 on a hollowchannel shaft 21. To prevent the sleeve 19 from leaving the hollow shaft 21, a stop piece 22 made integral with the splined sleeve 19 by threading or by any other known system, is capable of moving vertically between two stops 23 and 24 provided on the 'hollow shaft 21 leaving the sleeve a certain freedom of vertical movement. The splined hollow shaft 21 is secured to its upper part 25 by threading or by any other known system with a probe train.
This probe train which can rotate in the axis of the augers is constituted by hollow rods 26 assembled to each other by sleeving with the aid of a coupling device consisting of pins 27 engaging in corresponding notches. dantes 28 and screws or studs not shown engaged in holes 29 and 30 passing through the male and female parts of the sleeve, device can be replaced by any other known system (Figure 1), The upper part of the hollow probe string ( figure 1) is joined using the above coupling device with another shaft 31 which rotates at high speed in the first shaft of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
drive device shown in Figure 3.
To this end, this second shaft 31 is provided at its end with a bush pierced with holes 30 and terminated by lugs 27 corresponding to the notches 28 of the upper part of the elements of the probe train,
One of the two drive shafts 10 and 31 is mounted adjustable in height relative to the other, the adjustment being effected, for example, by means of a screw 36 and nut 37 system actuated by a steering wheel 35.
The central duct in the probe train communicates via an axial duct formed in the second shaft and via a rotating joint, not shown with a water injection head 32, From this! In this way, the rotating probe train does not involve in its rotational movement the injection head 32 and the height adjustment device 35, 36 and 37.
The drive device shown in FIG. 3 is itself actuated by a motor, not shown, the shaft of which is connected either directly or by means of a conventional transmission at the end of the input shaft 33 of the device. The latter is produced in the form of a double change or of a double speed variator making it possible to adjust the speeds of the concentric hollow output shafts 10 and 31 independently of one another. This device is even provided in such a way. so that it allows the direction of rotation of the probe train to be reversed. A lever 34 provided on the device itself makes it possible to control the speeds and the reversal of the direction of rotation.
A suitable frame supports the device
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
drive and auger.
All of this drilling equipment according to the invention can be used according to two methods to which the invention also extends. In one, the drilling tool works only in rotation and in the other it works in rotation-percussion.
In the first, the height of the drive shaft 31 of the probe train is adjusted relative to that of the auger so that the internal serrated ring 18 of the tool does not come into contact with the shaft. serrated crown 7 located under the hollow core of the auger.
By rotating the tool and the auger at their respective speeds, the injection water lubricated tool exiting through passages 16 wear down the ground first and reduce it to fine pieces. These are then taken up by the auger which raises these elements to the ground surface.
If it is desired to take intact samples, the central part 11 of the tool is disconnected from its annular part 12. The internal shaft 21 - central tool 11 assembly is removed, and it is replaced by a coring tool which comes take the place of the central tool.
In the second method, the vertical position of the drive shaft of the oondo train is adjusted relative to that of the auger so this time that the internal toothed ring 18 of the tool comes into contact with the screw. jagged crown
7 located under the hollow core of the auger, making
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
turn the tool and the auger at their respective speed, the teeth or protuberances of the crown 18 integral with the tool slide on those of the crown 7 integral with the hollow core of the auger and the tool is then driven with small vertical alternating movements which generate successive impacts of the tool on the ground. The frequency of strokes can be increased if the thread and the auger are turned in the opposite direction.
These thwarted movements also promote the recovery of ground crushed by the blade 1 of the auger.
The device according to the invention and its methods of implementation which make it possible to drill in all types of terrain have the following advantages in particular:
1- At an equal depth compared to conventional augers, this improved auger does not require significant power. Indeed, thanks to the different speeds of the tool and of the auger, the tool can be made to move at high speed while the auger rotates at low speed, an auger which, with a high torque, absorbs an average power. The tool reducing the materials into fine elements, it is no longer necessary to have an auger with a pitch and a large propeller width to lift the materials, Cola results in a reduction in the power required.
2 - It is possible to use percussion to cross certain terrains.
3 - The hollow core of the auger which makes
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
casing office moves easily in areas with a high clamping force thanks to its propeller 1 which acts as a stirrer-mixer. You can drill deeply and the assembly is easy to raise.
4 - The successive shocks in the case of percussion originate above the tool and are transmitted directly to the ground without being damped. This process makes it possible to obtain a frequency of shocks which is particularly high when the tool and the auger turn in the opposite direction. The combination of these two effects makes it possible to obtain a high efficiency.
5 - The water only used as a simple lubricant, not serving in any way to raise the debris of the drilling is held in a very restricted volume of ground and therefore does not practically modify the resistivity of the ground in depth .
6 - It is possible, with a simple adjustment and without having to disassemble and reassemble the whole, to switch, depending on the terrain to be crossed, from perforation by rotation to perforation by rotation-percussion. This results in very great flexibility of operation.
7 - The device can work in all positions.
