<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Anti-glare device for headlights of cars, motorcycles and similar vehicles."
The present invention relates to a device for making the headlights of cars, motorcycles and similar vehicles anti-glare.
According to the invention, the device essentially involves the polarization, by means of spars, or appropriate screens, of the light emitted by the headlights of motor vehicles, by providing the vehicles which pass each other with another screen to observe. vation called viewfinder, intended to achieve the subsequent polarization of the rays along a plane perpendicular to that of the first polarizing screen. In other words, the anti-glare effect is obtained by application, in the direction indicated,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
ds polarizing means of the light on the two vehicles which cross and precisely, we repeat it, on the headlights for the polarization of the emitted light and on the viewfinder screen, for the polarization according to a perpendicular plane of the reflected rays on the crossing vehicle.
This being said, it should be noted that the invention described here is essentially aimed at the application on headlights or other lighting means and on viewfinder screens, of any type, of the polarization means arranged with its axis of polarization. having turned 45 degrees, in the opposite direction adx clockwise with respect to the longitudinal vertical plane of the motor vehicle, for an observer placed in front of this vehicle. Such an orientation of the axis of polarization, both for the polarizing material applied to the headlights and for that of the viewfinder screens, aims to obtain, as will be seen below, the maximum d anti-glare effect, greater clarity in visibility and depth of illumination.
In fact, with the orientation indicated, the light emitted by the headlights is polarized parallel to that of the viewfinder screen, applied to the vehicle; There is therefore no interference or reduction of light or alteration of colors or attenuation of light reflected by obstacles.
On the contrary, when two or more vehicles pass, the light emitted by the headlights of the opposing cars is automatically polarized in the direction orthogonal to the screen or to the visor screens, with the desired anti-glare effect,
It should also be noted that the orientation indicated above, that is to say in the direction opposite to that of the hands of a watch, of the axes of polarization of the screens, achieves
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
a very precise and advantageous goal, that is to say to narrow in the shape of a diamond the halo normally diffused all around by the lights, by the lenticular effect of the rain and the ice of the windshield, this diamond being also disposed inclined at 45 with respect to the vertical axis,
with its lower end facing the outside of the road and the higher end towards the center, so as to free the rolling space of the road from the annoying glow.
These and other characteristics will become more apparent with reference to the figures of the appended drawing, given as a non-limiting example and in which: FIG. 1 shows the positive according to the invention, on a vehicle seen from the front, it is that is to say in the direction indicated by the arrow F1; Figure 2 shows the same device on a vehicle @u from the rear, that is to say in the direction of arrow F2.
In the latter case, to differentiate them, the figures are drawn in broken lines.
It is specified that in the polarizing material, whether it is that intended for headlights, or that intended for view screens, it would first be necessary to detect the axis of polarization by the systems already known, and it will be drawn directly on the material. By polarization axis is meant the direction that must be given to the spar or analyzer screen, in order to achieve the maximum deviation of the reflected polarized ray; in other words, to obtain the minimum crossing of the viewfinder screen on the part of the polarized ray itself.
Referring to the figures of the drawing, it is noted that, after having established the direction of orientation of the polarizing material, it will be applied to the headlights 1 and 2 and to the viewfinder screen 3
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
of the windscreen, so that the axis of polarization is displaced or rather has carried out a rotation of 45 in the direction opposite to that of the needles of a watch with respect to the longitudinal vertical plane of the vehicle, the latter being seen from the front (see arrow F1).
In figure 1 we note precisely the axes of polari-; position 1 ', 2' and 3 'of the headlights and the viewfinder screen, which are all: parallel to each other, and are designated by an arrow with two points in accented line,
In FIG. 2, in broken lines, it is noted that on; the headlights 4 and 5 and on the analyzer screen 6 the polar-sartt material has also been applied in the direction already indicated, taking into account that in this figure the direction of the front part is designated by the arrow F2.
Here also, we see the polarization axes 4 ', 5' and 6 'drawn with two-pointed arrow in accented lines,
By a simple comparison of the two figures, we see that; the axes of polarization of the screens, for two vehicles which credit each other, are orthogonal to each other and therefore, in the position best suited to achieve the greatest deviation on the part of the viewing screens of the reflected polarized rays or of the light fringes , emitted by the headlights of vehicles driving in reverse sounds.
The modes of application of polarizing screens on the headlights may be different, depending on the type; normally the polarizing material will be applied to the outside of the headlight, under. cap shape suitably protected and adapted to the convexity of the glass, with a predetermined fixed orientation, held after a stopper, notch or the like for ease of installation, on the job.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The analyzer screens may also vary both in their type and in the application and arrangement on the motor vehicle; in fact, these could constitute a single assembly with the windshield or else be applied to the latter in various ways, using fixed or orientable means, without departing from the scope of the invention,
The analyzer or viewfinder screens may also consist of glasses of various types, with polarized lenses or glasses or with screens applied from above, without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.
