Filtre-presse
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
tubulaire 3.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

Filter press
The subject of the invention is a filter press of the type in which the product to be filtered is introduced into a variable-volume chamber, one wall of which is movable or deformable by a suitable clamping device for compressing the product to be filtered on a filtering surface forming a wall of this chamber.
Current filters of this type consist of a stack of frames provided with filtering surfaces provided at their periphery with sealing devices and delimiting between them chambers in which the product to be filtered is placed. These frames are arranged between two fixed consoles connected to each other by tie rods, and a hydraulic or pneumatic jack resting on one of the consoles.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
press the frames on top of each other and against the other console. In some filters, the clamping pressure is generated by bellows interposed between the frames and inflatable by means of a pressurized fluid to press @ the product to be filtered on the filtering surfaces carried by the frames.
These constructions do not allow very high clamping pressures to be exerted, and these filters generally work under a pressure of about ten bars.
The present invention relates to the production of a filter press operating at a very high pressure and which can be used in particular for the treatment of fluids very loaded with solids, for example cement paste.
The use of a high pressure makes it possible to obtain a higher efficiency per unit of filtering surface, which makes it possible to use a smaller filtering surface for the same production capacity; on the other hand, the residual liquor content of the filter cake is significantly reduced when using high clamping pressure.
In a filter press produced in accordance with the invention, the variable-volume chamber into which the product to be filtered is introduced is formed in a longitudinal cavity provided in a cylindrical filter body, and the clamping device bears on the wall of the cavity for pressing the product to be filtered onto the filtering surface forming a wall of this chamber.
In one embodiment of the invention, one of the walls of the variable-volume chamber consists of a deformable membrane, the edges of which are fixed in a sealed manner to the wall of the cavity of the filter body, and the opposite wall consists of a filtering surface supported by a core which fits tightly into the cavity of the filter body; tightening is obtained by admitting a pressurized fluid between the membrane and the wall of the cavity.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In another embodiment of the invention, the variable-volume chamber has two parallel walls formed by rigid filtering surfaces, and an elastically compressible ring, for example made of rubber, is clamped between the edges of these filtering surfaces.
Other arrangements specific to the invention will become apparent on reading the following description of two embodiments of the invention, given by way of example, a description which refers to the drawings which accompany it and in which t - FIG. 1 is a view in diametral section of a filter produced in accordance with the invention.
- Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of the filter of Figure 1.
- Figure 3 is an enlarged view, in cross section, of a fraction of the filtering surface.
- Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of another filter made oonformément to the inventj.on.
- Figure 5 is a partial view in section of the sealing ring of the filter of Figure 4, and - Figure 6 is a partial view in section of a variant of Figure 1.
The filter shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a cylindrical body or frame 1 with annular section, which delimits a cylindrical cavity, one end of which is sealed off by a disc fixed by appropriate means to the frame 1.
The wall of this cavity is covered with a tubular rubber membrane 2, the edges of which are fixed in a sealed manner to the frame 1. In the cavity of the frame 1, fits a central core or cylinder 10 which is provided at its upper part. - upper of a sealing system 4. The central cylinder 10 is grooved longitudinally and carries a filtering surface
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
tubular 3.
The membrane 2 and the central cylinder 10 form a tubular chamber 6, intended to receive the material to be filtered, and one wall of which is formed by the filter surface -3.
The volume of the chamber 6 can be reduced by deforming the membrane 2 using a fluid we -pressure introduced between the membrane and the frame 1 through the orifice 5.
The central core 10 constitutes the cylinder of a jack 11, the piston of which is integral with the frame 1. By admitting a pressurized fluid, hydraulic or pneumatic, on one or the other face of the piston of the jack 11, it is possible to lift the central cylinder 10 out of the cavity of the frame 1 or reintroduce it into this cavity.
The grooves formed on the periphery of the cylinder 10 open at their lower end into an annular groove which itself communicates with an annular cavity 7 to which the longitudinal channels 8 and 9 terminate.
In the case where. the central cylinder 10 has a large diameter, it is expensive to machine a large number of grooves of small width and very close to each other on the periphery of the cylinder. In this case, it is preferable to adopt the construction shown in Fig. 3.
As can be seen in this figure, the outer surface of cylinder 10 is smooth and covered with plates 15 arranged side by side on the surface of cylinder 10. These plates are formed for example by extrusion and have longitudinal grooves 16 on their ooncave surface. which communicate with the convex surface of the plates, by a series of holes 17, drilled all along the grooves 16 and whose diameter is less than the width of the grooves. The plates 15 serve as a support for a porous sintered metal wall 18 which can optionally be reopened with a filter cloth 19.
In the case where the grooves are formed directly
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
on the central cylinder, the latter is covered with a perforated sheet on which the porous sintered metal wall rests, the section of the holes in the sheet being smaller than the section of the grooves. This prevents the deterioration of the sintered metal wall, which could be forced into the grooves by the pressure to which it is subjected during filtration if this wall were placed directly above the grooves.
To describe the mode of operation of this filter, it will be assumed that the chamber 6 is already filled with material to be filtered.
When a pressurized fluid, preferably a liquid, is injected through the orifice 5, the membrane 2 is deformed by the pressure, and the material contained in the chamber 6 is pressed onto the filtering surface 3. The pressure used is the order of several hundred bars. The filtrate is expelled through the filtering surface 3 and is collected in the cavity 7 from where. it is discharged at B, at the end of channel 8, under the action of the pressure of a fluid introduced at A into channel 9.
As soon as the pressure acting on the membrane 2 has reached its final value, the pressure is released, and the membrane 2 then tends to return to its initial position.
Using the jack 11, the cylinder 10 carrying the filtering surface 3 to which the drained cake adheres is then removed from the cavity of the frame 1. A removable scraper device 12 is then brought into contact with the central cylinder, below the cake, and simultaneously, compressed air is injected through channel 9, outlet B being closed, to ensure that the cake takes off. .
Then the cylinder 10 is lowered, using the jack 11 and during this movement, the cake is cleared by the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
scrapers 12 and is collected in a hopper 13.
While the stripping operation is taking place, a determined quantity of material to be filtered is introduced at C into the cavity of the frame 1 through an orifice 14 pierced in the bottom of this cavity. This quantity is approximately equal to the volume of the chamber 6. The inlet C is then closed and when the central cylinder approaches the bottom of the cavity of the frame 1, it discharges into the tubular chamber 6 the material to be filtered which was at the bottom. of the cavity.
As soon as the central cylinder is in place in the frame cavity, a new cycle is started again.
In turn, to facilitate the clearing of the cake, the filtering surface and the cavity of the frame 1 can be given a frustoconical shape, the tilt of these surfaces being low during this + in order to avoid significant axial reactions.
It should be noted that in the embodiment described above, the central cylinder is subjected during filtration to an upward axial force due to the pressure of the material to be filtered on the annular surface of the central cylinder forming the upper wall of the cylinder. bedroom 6.
To balance this force, we must therefore maintain a sufficient pressure in the cylinder 11. It is obviously possible to provide a locking device which would keep the central cylinder in place during filtration, the cylinder 11 then only having to provide the force. necessary to lift the central cylinder. In the case where the filter has a large diameter, the weight of the central cylinder can be very high, and in this case it is preferable to mount the filtering surface 3 on a hollow cylinder fitted onto a central core fixed to the frame. For debating, then only the hollow cylinder, the weight of which is lower, is lifted.
This axial force can be eliminated by closing off the
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
bottom of chamber 6 by a portion of the central cylinder.
But it would then be necessary to provide in the central cylinder a channel for filling the ohambre 6. It is also possible to fix the central cylinder permanently in the cavity of the frame 1, and to provide a device such as that of FIG. 6 to open one end. from chamber 6 and allow the cake to escape.
In FIG. 6, the bottom of the cavity of the frame 1 is closed off by a piston 38 mounted in a bore 39 machined in a cap 40 which is removably secured to the frame 1 '. During filtration the piston 38 is pressed against the end of the central cylinder by the pressure of the fluid admitted into the bore 39; this piston is then retracted to allow opening of the cap 40 by pivoting about the axis 41.
.
The filter shown in FIG. 4 comprises a cylindrical frame 21 with a hollow elleptic section in which are placed a filter element and a rubber membrane 22, the edges of which are fixed in a sealed manner to the frame 21.
The filter element is formed by soft filtering surfaces 23 carried by plates 24, and by a frame 21 placed between the two plates, around the filtering surfaces.
The latter and the frame 25 delimit a chamber 27 intended to receive the material to be filtered. The structure of the filtering surfaces 23 is similar to that of the filtering surface 3 of the filter described above.
The frame 25 comprises a rigid outer portion integral with a hollow inner portion filled with rubber 28, which is for example molded in this portion of the frame (see FIG. 5). It is this elastic internal portion of the frame 25 which is interposed between the two plates 24 and ensures the seal between the latter. The outer portion of the frame 25 is elastically supported by studs 35, /
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
carried by the frame 21. The upper plate 24 is elastically supported by springs 31 and 32 which tend to separate the upper plate from the lower plate.
When a pressurized fluid is introduced through the orifice 26 between the membrane 22 and the wall of the cavity of the frame 21, the upper plate is moved by the membrane 22 towards the lower plate and simultaneously compresses the material contained in the chamber 27 and the internal portion of the frame 25. The latter is designed to withstand the filtratiou pressure while allowing the two plates to come together. The compression to which the internal portion of the frame 25 is subjected forces the rubber 28 to deform towards the interior of the chamber 27; since it is prevented from deforming outwards. When the pressure acting on the membrane 22 is released, the rubber 28 returns to its initial shape, which leaves a clearance between the drained cake and the frame 25. This clearance is very favorable to the stripping operation.
The filtrate flows through orifices 29 and 30.
When the filtration operation is finished, the pressure acting on the membrane 22 is released, and the upper plate is then moved away from the lower plate by the springs 31 and 32. Using an appropriate mechanism, the filter is then removed. frame 25 of the frame by dragging the wrung out cake. After sufficient translation, the cake falls out of the frame 25, and the latter is returned to its initial position.
The plates are then brought into contact with the frame 25 by the admission of a fluid under reduced pressure above the membrane 22, then a new quantity of material to be filtered is introduced into the chamber 27 through the channel 33, which is provided with a check valve 34, and the cycle begins again.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
Numerous modifications can be made to the embodiments described, without departing from the limits of the invention, and of course all these modifications come within the scope of the present patent.
