<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

resistance 5.
The values of the capacitance of the capacitor 4 and of the resistor 5 are chosen so that the pulsation of the rectified direct voltage can be relatively large, so that the device is sensitive without delay to variations in the alternating voltage applied to the devices. terminals. "Without delay" means for example that the device triggers within half a wave.
DC voltage across capacitor 4 (fig. 2) or across terminals 1 and 2 (fig.l) is applied to a high impedance input circuit of an amplifier. This input circuit comprises a resistor 6 arranged in series with the control electrode 11 (the base) of a transistor 10, pnp type, the emitter 13 of this transistor and a resistor 7.
This resistor 7 is part of an adjustable voltage divider consisting of resistors 7 and 8, arranged between terminals 1 (ground) and 14 (negative supply voltage).
This voltage divider fixes the voltage of the emitter 13, when the transistor 10 is in the non-conductive state. The voltage across resistor 7 determines the response threshold when the device is switched on. Since the input impedance of transistor 10 is very large, the output current flowing from the emitter to the collector is relatively low despite the amplification.
The current of the collector 12 of the transistor 10 passes through a voltage divider made up of two resistors 9 and 16, fixing the input voltage, in this case the potential of the base of a transistor 20, type npn. This last
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
becomes conductive as soon as the current flows in the collector 12. At this moment, an amplified current passes through the transistor 20, passing through an emitter resistor 17, its emitter 23, its collector 22 and a resistor 26 connected to a voltage divider consisting of two resistors 34 and 35 between terminals 1 (ground) and 24, (positive supply voltage). This voltage divider fixes the voltage at the input of a third amplifier, in this case the base 31 of a transistor 30.
If the transistor 20 has a large leakage current, the voltage at the emitter of transistor 20 can be stabilized using the voltage divider formed by resistor 17 and a resistor 18 connected to terminal 1.
If the DC voltage at the collector 22 is not sufficiently smooth, the output signal must be prevented from becoming a pulsed signal. To do this, a buffer capacitor 25 is placed between the connection terminal of the collector 22 and terminal 1.
The buffer capacitor 25 acts differently from the capacitor 4 at the input of the device. Indeed, the buffer capacitor 25 is never charged to a potential higher than the voltage of the collector 22 whatever the voltage applied to the capacitor 4 at the input of the device.
Therefore, on discharging, it reaches the switching voltage of transistor 30 with a constant delay. This delay can be determined using the values of the capacity of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
capacitor and the discharge resistor formed by resistors 26 and 34. It can in particular be chosen equal to half a wave of the alternating voltage applied to the input terminals 1 and 2 of the device. It should be noted that in this case the AC component of the DC signal at the terminals of the capacitor 4 at the input can reach considerable values but these variations of the DC signal do not influence the output signal, because the latter is maintained. thanks to the buffer capacitor 25.
The third amplifier or the output amplifier, formed by the transistor 30, becomes conductive as soon as a current is established in the collector 22. At this moment a current can circulate between its collector 32 and its emitter 33. If, for example the current at the input of the device, in this case in the resistor 6 is 3 uA, the current in the collector 32 can be of the order of 15mA or more.
The collector 32 is connected to an output terminal 40, provided for example for connection to a logic circuit supplied by a negative voltage of the same order of magnitude as the voltage at terminal 14. It is also possible to connect it to the power supply terminal 14 through a resistor 41 drawn in dotted lines (Fig. 1)
As soon as the transistor 30 turns on, a rectifier 36 connects a resistor 7 in parallel with the resistor 37 and thus lowers the response voltage of the input amplifier.
