<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"uoque for snow or for water provided with curved longitudinal ribs for guiding, steering and stopping".
The present invention relates to a sled-aquaplane in the shape of a boat with an almost flat bottom stored between two sides or inclined planes which, during the straight course, are not in contact with snow or other means of support (for example 'water), said sides being provided with curved longitudinal ribs such that they allow the person occupying the aquaplane sled to conduct at will by simply tilting the body sideways to the desired level.
said sledge-aquaplane is characterized in that it has on each side or side of the flattened hull at least one rib
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
longitudinal curved or curved, concave outwards, cotto rib having the shape of a ring oath of very large radius,
The best result is preferably obtained by a plurality of these longitudinal ribs although only one is also sufficient.
The bottom of the luge-aquaplane is practically formed by three plana, of which the two outer ones form, with the central plane, ù'nppuj on the ground, an angle such that it touches the snow or the water only when the driver moves its weight on one side and desires to use their action, while the sled usually slides in the reotilinear sounds only on the central plane.
The shape of the sled-aqusplane can be varied, since the longitudinal ribs can be incorporated or be applied on any bottom shape of the sled.
In the example described, a form of angular section rib was preferred.
What we have just said for snow also applies to the use of the device on the water, as a trailer for fast boats, since the aforementioned structure of the bottom allows the same evolutions that can be achieved on snow. In other words, it is an object that has exactly two uses: t as a sled on snow and as an aquaplane on water.
Then, for brevity, we will only use the word luge poux to also indicate its application as an aquaplane.
We know the sledges which have a flat or curved bottom and which cannot be driven by the person sitting on the sled, except that they are not driven with the feet as the sledges known hitherto, or by a rudder, or by side lever brakes. The sledges known until now are always provided with a braking system since they can be partly driven, but they cannot glisten in turns with a semi-circular trajectory, that is to say
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to "slalom" and to "Christiania" and thus turn and stop in the same way that one stops and one turns with the skis.
The sled according to the present invention has the presence of a mechanical brake or the danger of having to brake with the legs and with the feet, which can be dangerous if the sledge goes at a high speed. In addition, the guiding of the sled according to the invention is such that it allows any evolution, while the guiding with the sledges known hitherto was only partial and only allowed a large radius guiding.
False better understand the invention, the accompanying drawing shows two preferred embodiments of the sled.
Fig. 1 shows the side view of a first execution of the sledge.
Fig. 2 shows a cross section of the sled along the line
2-2 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 3 shows a front perspective view of the lower part of the inverted sledge, on which are arranged three rods, which indicate the angles which form between them the planes of the bottom of the sled.
Fig. 4 is a plan view from below of the sled.
Fig. 5 shows a bottom plan view of the hull of a second embodiment.
Fig. 6 shows a cross section taken on line 6-6 of FIG. 5.
According to Figures 1 to 4, the sled is provided with a peripheral edge 1 and its bottom is formed by three planes, the central of which .2 forms with the lateral planes 3 and 3 'at an angle such as to prevent that, during the journey reotilinear, sides 3 and 3 'break with snow or water. Said planes 2, 3, 3 'at the front and rear part are revealed together, so as to prevent the sled from being able to get under snow or water.
The plane 2 is provided with longitudinal ribs 4, which prevent the swerving of the sled during the reotilinear route along the axis A-B; in addition, said ribs 4 are used on the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
"half-hill" course features to prevent the sled from sliding down into the valley. The space between the longitudi- nal ribs 4 includes a groove 2 'making the bottom higher than the side parts 3-3'.
The two surfaces 3 and 3 'bear, on the contrary, ribs
5 and 5 'which have the shape of an aro of a circle with the concavity open towards the outside, the radius of which is rather large (from 1 to 4 meters approximately). the said longitudinal ribs, if the driver so desires and has shifted his weight, for example, on one side, engage with snow or water and allow a semi-circular “slalom” path to be described , that is, a controlled turn to the side where the driver has leaned.
It should further be noted that said longitudinal ribs can be formed with the same material of the bottom of the sled, or they can be of metal or other harder material and be applied to the bottom itself. The edge 1 is reopened by a U-shaped profile 6 preferably made of plastic material, of such shape and size to form between the edge 1 and the profile 6 an air chamber 7 to absorb shocks and blows.
In addition, along the sides of the sled, and preferably on the middle line, the edge 1 lifts to form two handles 8, so as to facilitate the guiding of the sled itself, said handles can be taken by the driver.
In addition, the sled may have the same shape either before as behind, or the rear part could be more vertical than the front one, as shown in Figures 1 and 2 in the form of execution here described.
The guiding of this sled shape is effected by shifting the weight of the convector to one side or the other, so that the flat surfaces 3 and 3 'and the respective longitudinal ribs 5 and 5', which during the movement rectilinear do not touch the snow or the water, engage with the said means (snow or '.water) thus causing the turn to be either to the right or to the left,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
according to the position of the driver's body. With this sled you can therefore make turns at "Slalom" controls, one after the other and you can stop with the marl method used with the skis while doing the "christiania".
Referring to Figures 5 and 6 which show the second embodiment, it can be seen that the bottom 10 of the shell is slightly curved and it is provided laterally with two pluralities of longitudinal ribs marked respectively by 11, 12, 13 , the first and with 11 ', 12', 13 'the second.
By considering each of the longitudinal ribs 11, 12 and 13, it can be seen that they follow curves which are not concentric; more precisely the curve of the longitudinal rib 13, the innermost with respect to the section, has a greater radius than that of the median longitudinal rib 12 and the latter, in turn, has a larger radius than that of the median longitudinal rib 12. of the longitudinal rib 11 placed near the lateral edge of the shell.
The same applies to the ribs 11 ', 12', 13 'which result respectively symmetrically from the 11, 12, 13 in a longitudinal vertical plane, passing through the middle of the iond 10.
By way of example, the ribs 11 and 11 'may have a radius of approximately 1 meter, the ribs 12 and 12' a radius of approximately 2.50 meters and the frames 13 and 1> 'a radius of 3.50 meters. about.
At the central part of the bottom 10 of the hull there are no reotilinear ribs, like those represented by 4 in Figures 1 to 4. They could however be added. In this second embodiment shown in Figures 5 and 6, the hull has the entire bottom slightly curved, instead of the three-plane one as in Figures 1 to 4.
In any case, the curvature 10 of the bottom or the inclination of the lateral planes 3 and 3 'or the position of the longitudinal ribs are provided so that during the reotilinear movement of the shell, the said longitudinal ribs are not in contact.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
with snow or with water on which the hull is slipping.
Only to voluntarily guide the ooque, the driver shifts his weight to one side or the other so that the longitudinal ribs on the side towards which he is moving, engage with the snow or with the water, thus causing the turn.

The longitudinal ribs will preferably be continuous, but they could also be formed by allied segments, ea,., With spaces from each other. on the no1e, the luco forming the object of the present invention is 6nûQlemcnt used for descents of snowy slopes; on the water, when working as an aquaplane, provision has been made for it to be driven or towed by fast boats, which can at this end possibly be fitted with suitable devices of known type.
