"DISPOSITIF DE CONTROLE DE L'OPACITE D'UN
BROUILLARD DE LUBRIFICATION ".-
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"DEVICE FOR MONITORING THE OPACITY OF A
LUBRICATION MIST ".-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to a device for controlling the opacity of a lubricating mist formed of fine oil droplets dispersed in a gas.
In known automatic or centralized lubrication installations using a lubricating mist, the pressure of the gas constituting the mist prevailing in the transport pipe of the latter starting from the nozzle and ending at the places to be lubricated, generally at bearings, is controlled. The lubrication of these places or bearings is ensured when the gas pressure is maintained above a value determined by the installation to be lubricated.
However, the lubrication can be defective, thus causing significant losses of material and causing? prolonged production stoppages as is the case in rolling mills, when the mist no longer contains 3sufficient oil although the pressure of its gas is still greater than the aforementioned determined value. It is therefore of the greatest interest to control the quantity of oil contained in the mist when the installation to be lubricated is operating.
The present invention enables this control in a simple, efficient and economical manner.
To this end, a lubrication installation is provided with a device for controlling the opacity of the lubricating mist which comprises a pipe for the passage of the mist and in a housing, a light source, for example a lape, capable of eching. a luminous flux projected onto the fog and a photoelectric cell arranged on the side opposite to it with respect to the aforesaid pipe and capable of intercepting the luminous flux emitted by the source and passing through the fog, this cell being ruccor-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
electrically to a signaling device operating when the luminous flux passing through the fog and intercepted by the cell,
exceeds a critical value above which the fog no longer leaves enough oil to be still at? is lubricant.
According to a particular feature of the invention, the housing comprises a wall separating the pipe for passing the fog and the space of the housing containing the light source, this separating wall having an orifice for passing the flow emitted by the source towards the photoelectric cell.
In order to be able to check the operation of the light source, the box has an opening for placing the chamber of the box containing the light source and the external environment in communication, this opening making it possible to check the switching on or off of this light source.
According to another feature of the invention, a photoelectric cell can be connected to the signaling device, via an amplifier relay. The signaling device may be of a usual type such as a horn or an olignotor.
Advantageously, the light source is connected to a signaling device, in particular to that t anche tans the electrical circuit of the cell, by the intermediary of a relay actuating said signaling device? rs of the extinction of the light source. As a result, the signaling device operates as soon as the light source, in particular the lamp, reaches the end of its operating life. The possible device error due to the read source is thus eliminated.

The dijpo <3itif comprises a housing 5 arranged on either side of the pipe 3. This housing 5 forms a first chamber 6 in which is shown a light source.

is, for example, a l.1I.pe 7. The housing has, in the bottom of the chamber6 a small opening 8 for the passage of the fila conductors 9 and 10 to supply the lamp.
In addition, it has in its cylindrical side wall, another opening 11 putting the chamber 6 in communication with the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
external environment. This opening 11 is closed by an indicator 22 made of material allowing the transmission of the light rays emitted by the lamp 7. In this way, it is easy to observe ui step 7 is on or not.
The chamber 6 is separated from the pipe 2 by a partition wall 12 having a small opening 13 allowing light rays from the lamp 7 to be projected uur the lu.rifiant fog circulating in this pipe 2.
The housing 5 of the device still fome a second chamber 14 in which is housed a photoelectric cell 15 intercepting the lu..ineux flow emitted by the lamp 7 and passing through the opening 13 and possibly the bubbling mist. The cell 15 can serve as a wall for the duct 2. The housing has, in the bottom of the chamber 14, an opening 16 for the paauage of the conductors 17 and 18 for the electrical connection of the cell.
The wires 17 and 18 are connected to the terminals of a relata amplifier 19 supplied by a source, for example, AC. This relay is itself connected to a signaling device, for example a horn 20.
The wires 9 and 10 are connected to the terminals of another relay 21 supplied for example by the same source and also connected to the horn 20.
Thus, when the magnifying glass 7 emits a luminous flux, part of it passes through the opening 13 and is normally absorbed by the lubricating mist, in particular by the oil thereof. When the quantity of oil contained in the mist falls below a determined value no longer ensuring sufficient lubrication, the aforesaid part of the luminous flux progressively passes through the mist and reaches the photoeletric collule 15 from which it is converted.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
into an electrical quantity, amplified by the relay 19 and making the horn 20 work. It is then necessary to increase the quantity of oil in the fog, in particular to suppress the noise of the horn 20.
EMI6.1
On the other hand, if la.upe 7 comes to burn, there is no longer the flow data by it, transferred to relay 1, the horn is again euclenclm and the ularuc is thus given, extinction ..the lu lumpo 7 in the shoemaker being immediately visible through the opening 11.
The present device can either be mounted in a mist distribution line while being then separated from the generator thereof, or incorporated in the generator marl.
