<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Etanoheity seal"
It is known to use, to achieve the etanoheity between the piston and the cylinder of a telescopic hydraulic cylinder or between the rotary vane and the cylinder of a rotary hydraulic cylinder, or else between the internal separation of the cylinder. and the axis carrying the blade of a cylinder of the latter type, flexible V-shaped or U-shaped lip seals in which the pressure of the liquid acts internally between the lips so that they s' apply to the walls to be sealed.
This principle, effective at high pressures, proves to be insufficient for low pressures and it follows that the slightest leak of liquid between the parts to be sealed leads to a loss of pressure and becomes detrimental to operation.
One of the aims of the invention is to improve the application of the lips of the seal against the walls when the pressure of the liquid is low, that is to say insufficient to achieve the latter with the required efficiency while keeping the mode
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
normal action of said lips for high pressures.
Another object of the invention which is of particular interest to annular seals in which the outer lip has, before assembly, a diameter slightly greater than that of the cylinder with the inner wall of which it must cooperate is to eliminate the slight wrinkling of said lip which gives rise to leaks which, initiated at low pressures, are liable to persist up to much higher pressures.
The present invention relates to a seal étancgéita intended to be mounted between the mating elements, movable relative to each other of a hydraulic cylinder capable of ensuring perfect sealing between all the movable parts of these mechanisms. , especially at low pressures *
This seal made of an elastically deformable material and comprising at least one group of two lips joined by a seal body and intended to bear respectively on each of the conjugate elements to be connected in a sealed manner is characterized in that the at least one of the lips has a longitudinal projection arranged so as to bear against the opposite lip by exerting suitable pressure thereon after installation.
Other characteristics will result from the description which will follow given with reference to the appended drawing in which FIG. 1 is a partial section through a hydraulic cylinder showing an annular seal mounted in the cylinder, the piston being mounted to slide in the seal in FIG. 2 is a similar view showing the same annular seal mounted on the piston, the seal being sliding in the cylinder $ FIG. 3 is a section through the seal of FIGS. 2 and 3 showing its profile before assembly,

fig.
4 is a longitudinal sectional view of a rotary hydraulic cylinder showing a seal consisting of rectilinear parts, fixed to the blade of the weapon and a rectilinear seal mounted between the shaft and the field of the inner separation of the cylinder, the fig. 5 and 6 are cross-sections of the seal on a larger scale, along lines 5- (and 6-6 of the fig ', the pin 7 is a section similar to fig. 5, of the gasket before assembly fig. 8 and 9 are similar sections showing, as a variant, other possibilities of fixing the seal on the blade or the internal separation of the cylinder from the driving shaft.
The annular seal 1- made of synthetic rubber shown in solid lines in FIG. 3 presents a body
8 carrying the inner 9 and outer 13 lips of slightly divergent directions when the seal is in the free state. The lip 9 carries a longitudinal projection or bead
11, which extends over the entire perimeter of said lip and is pierced from place to place, with orifices 12 whose function is explained below *
According to the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the seal 1 is mounted captive in a groove 2 formed inside a cylinder 3, a piston 4 being slidably mounted in the seal 1.
The pin 2 shows another method of mounting the seal 1 captive on a cylindrical part% provided on a piston 6, the seal 1 being slidably mounted in a cylinder 7.
We see in fig. 3 that the inner lip 9 has a diameter DL slightly smaller than the diameter D2 of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
pistons 4 or 6 before assembly so that it 'performs a tightening after assembly to ensure tightness while the diameter D3 of the outer lip 13 is slightly greater than the diameter D4 of the displacement 3 or 7 so that the outer lip 13 tightens its entire periphery in order to also obtain sealing on the wall of the cylinder.
The bead 11 is formed so as to exert, after assembly, sufficient pressure on the outer lip 13 to ensure perfect sealing at low pressures.
The channels 12 allow the pressurized liquid to penetrate to the bottom of the body 8, so as to act on the lips 9 and 13 to strengthen the clamping on the walls of the cylinder and the piston and to avoid deformation of the bead 11 at high pressures. Furthermore, it is understood that when fitting the seal 1 in the groove 2 of the cylinder 3 or in the cylinder 7, the outer lip 13 tends to form, due to the reduction in diameter which it undergoes during assembly, of slight folds due to differences in diameters D3 and D4.
It is obvious that the bead 11 which cooperates with the said lip in the vicinity of its end edge, eliminates these folds which would constitute sealing defects,
It goes without saying that if the cylinder in which the piston is mounted is double-acting, the seal 1 can be provided with a first pair of lips 9 and 13 like those shown in full milking at the pin 3 and a second pair of lips 9a and 13a shown in broken lines, to obtain the maturity in both directions depending on whether the pressure of the liquid is directed in one direction or the other.
The rod 4 represents in longitudinal section a cylinder

hydraulic rotary whose rotating part consists of a shaft 14 integral with a blade 15 mounted in a cylinder 16 provided with an internal separation 17 through which orifices 18 allow the arrival or departure of a pressurized liquid inside the cylinder 16, the latter being closed at its ends by flanges 19. The necessary sealing between the blade 15 and the cylinder 16 integral with the flanges 19 is produced by a seal, the body of which 20 (fig.
5 and 7) is extended on either side of its axis of symmetry XX, by two pairs of lips 21 and 22, 21a and 22a, respectively provided with beads 23 and 24, 2'8, and 24a intended to ensure a sufficient lip application pressure, after assembly, to obtain, between cylinder 16 and blade 15, in particular at low pressures, a rigorous seal
The beads 23, 24, 23a, 24a are devoid of channels similar to the channels 12 of the preceding figures.
In fact, in this embodiment, it has been judged preferable to stuff the annular spaces 20a, 20b with grease, before assembly, the pressure transmission taking place via the walls of the beads 23, 24, 23a, 24a.
The fixing of the seal on the field of the blade 15 is provided by fingers 25 housed in holes 26 provided in the seal 20 for this purpose and in corresponding holes 27 provided on the fields of the blade 15. The beads can be thinned at 28 towards the angles formed by the cylinder 16 and the flanges 19 (fig * 4 and 6), in order to facilitate the adjustment in these parts and resume their current shape exerting pressure on the lips between the vertical walls of the flanges 19 and of the blade 15. A seal 29 with a reoti- line profile identical to the seal 20 is arranged between the shaft 14 and the field of the separation 17 in order also to ensure the sealing.

chéité between these two moving parts in rotation.
Figs, 6 and 9 are other embodiments of the seal 20 showing other possibilities of attachment to the blade 15 or the separation * 1? by a longitudinal heel 30 (Fig. 8) molded with a rectangular profile, or added 30a (Fig. 9) and made integral with the seal to the molding by penetration of material into holes 31 provided in said heel 30aces heels can be advantageously housed one or the other in corresponding longitudinal grooves 32 formed in the blade or the partition.
