<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

Device forming an annealing cover or the like for an annealing furnace or the like and apparatus equipped with such a device *
The present invention essentially relates to a device forming an annealing cover or the like for an annealing furnace or the like as well as the apparatus equipped with such a device.
This invention relates generally to inner lids for annealing towers and more particularly to reinforcing elements for inner lids which constitute means for lifting and transporting these lids *
When changing the lid construction.
Interiors their overall or overall dimensions cannot be changed because they would not then fit in the annealing furnaces. If their structure is changed in its overall dimensions, then the annealing coil chamber may not be able to accommodate the stack or package of annealing coils.

proud the heat exchange rate.
If the structure of the inner cover is drastically changed by adding annular sections of a different character to the top of the inner cover, the heat transfer characteristics as well as internal stresses and strains will shorten the screw life of the inner cover.
The main object of this invention is to provide an addition to an inner annealing cover of known acceptability and approved type which will strengthen that cover and provide means for lifting and transporting the inner annealing cover.
Another object of this invention is to strengthen the upper part of the inner annealing cover without changing the inner or outer dimensions and at the same time to provide an annular bar for lifting and transporting the inner cover.
Another object is to create in combination a reinforcing member and an annular lifting bar for use on inner, cylindrical annealing covers both corrugated and smooth * It is important that each type of inner annealing cover has a shaped top. domed or domed to strengthen the cover and provide space for free movement. A dark dome top requires chair means to be applied against the underside of the lifter when hoisting the inner lids by means of the lifter bar * A flat top or flat surface annealing cover s' depresses and obstructs by closing the free flow of annealing gases.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided an inner annealing cover for an annealing furnace comprising a substantially vertical cylindrical wall, an upper or top closure member attached to the upper end of said floor a series of spaced apart members. circumferential-

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the description which follows *
In the schematic drawings armz '., Which are given by way of example only and show certain embodiments illustrating the principles of this invention without limiting it: FIG. 1 is a vertical elevational view of a cover interior comprising the structure according to this invention; Figure 2 is a plan view of the structure shown in Figure 1; FIG. 3 is an enlarged partial plan view of the structure shown in FIG. 2; FIG. 4 is a partial elevational view of the structure shown in FIG. 3;

Figure 12 is an elevational view and a sectional portion showing a smooth cylindrical inner cover having candle-shaped chairs; Figure 13 is an elevational view and a sectional portion showing a smooth cylindrical inner cover including these chairs in the form of gussets or similar plates.
Referring to Figure 1, the inner cover 1 comprises the vertically corrugated wall 2 reinforced by a series of annular trots or hoops 3 which, in this example, are not attached to the corrugations, but are held by elements 4 forming plates -bands, flanges or fixing brackets.
The annular rubbers or reinforcing rings 5 are not supported by the elements 4 forming the attachment flanges but are fixed directly to the corrugations of the corrugated cylindrical plate 2.
Thus, the rubs 3 prevent expansion, while the reinforcing rubs 5 prevent the expansion and contraction of the corrugated cylindrical inner cover 1.
The bottom or the lower end of the inner cover is provided with a bracket-bracket 6 in the form of an angle iron comprising a horizontal wing 7 which is welded directly to the base or end of the corrugations of the cylindrical wall 2 and the other wing
8 of the angle bracket bracket has a longer length and extends directly below the inner corrugations to provide a sand-tight seal *
The upper end of the corrugated cylinder 2 comprises, welded thereto, the upper or top closure element 10, the central part 11 of which is conical or spherical and is provided with a flat annular peripheral edge 12 which are welded to the upper end bonus of the corrugated cylindrical wall 2,
thereby completely enclosing the upper end of the inner cover 1. When the shutter wing 8 is secured in a suitable sealed manner, the inner cover is gas-tight

between the top element 10 and the corrugated cylindrical wall 2. As shown in Figure 2, there are preferably twelve bracket-brackets 14 provided for fixing the annular bar 13 to the corrugated cylindrical wall 2.
These brackets, although specifically located on the curved outer surface of a corrugation, provide significant strength to the structure in
EMI5.6
because of their length and the fact that they are welded. to the struatu- *! ' re of the heavy corrugated plate in the annular wall 2, in the vertical or longitudinal direction of the corrugations. This provision
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
provides a very strong reinforcing element for the cover and the base of the support-console 14 completely covers the top of the bar 13 which, as indicated above, represents the largest dimension of this bar.
The bar 13 not only constitutes a reinforcing element for the corrugated annular wall, but also forms a shoulder under which lifting members can be introduced to hoist the inner cover 1 and transport it * Due to the fact that some of the lifting members lifting require that the lifting head rests on top of the inner cover, it is necessary to provide a series of chairs or stirrups 15 at various locations around the periphery of the peripheral edge 12 of the upper element or of the top 10. these chairs or stirrups 15 are U-shaped, the branches of which are spaced apart so that they meet the peripheral edge 12 immediately above the outer and inner curved parts of the corrugations of the wall 2.
As shown in figure 3, the chairs or bracket $ 15 are placed with their legs 16 and 17 so that the leg 16 is above two of the inner corrugations j as shown at 18 and the leg 17 is above of the simple corrugation as indicated at 19 and just above one of the brackets 14. Thus, the apparatus or lifting member can be placed above the cover and lowered until it comes into contact with the chairs or stirrups 15 and at this time the fingers can be actuated to engage under the ring bar 13 for the purpose of lifting the inner cover 1.
If, on the other hand, the fingers of the lifting member are to be arranged around the inner cover and under the shoulder constituted by the annular bar 13, there is ample room to allow the use of. such a lifting member.
When the lifter is lifted, regardless of its type, the entire weight of the inner cover is transmitted from the lifter to the annular bar 13 and, through the
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
brackets-brackets 14, with the corrugated cylindrical cover 2. There is no pressure between the bar 13 and the corrugated cylindrical wall because of the clearance existing between this bar and the corrugated cylindrical wall. Again, any tendency of the cover to expand or contract in the vicinity of its top is thwarted by the forces distributing themselves through the support-consoles 14 to the annular bar 13.
The chairs or stirrups 15 are preferably made just high enough or slightly higher than the domed top 10, so that the lifting mechanism or any other element embracing the top of the inner cover will be carried by the chairs or stirrups 15 rather than by. the convex portion 11 from the top 10.
Referring to Figures 6 and 7, the chairs or stirrups 15 are replaced by the annular vertical rib 20 which may not be made completely annular due to the fact that it is only approximately as high as the chairs or stirrups 15. This upright rib 20 may be formed in segments and is welded in a continuous fashion or it may be tack welded to the edge or to the annular crown 12 of the top 10. The annular reinforcement member shown in Figures 6 and 7 has the form of a channel 21 open upwards, having its wings 22 and 23 welded to the underside of the brackets 14.
This allows a reduction in the weight of the ring bar 13 and yet provides a box member strong enough to form the lifting ring or reinforcement ring for the inner cover 1.
Variants of the standing rib and the lifting ring are shown in Figures 8 and 9 and 10 in which the standing member, which receives the lifting mechanism, is in Figure 8 a bracket-console 24 in the form of angle which is annular but is preferably not joined as indicated by the upright rib 20. This L-shaped element 24 has its short flange *
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
25 welded to the flat surface 12 of the top 10 and is recessed from the edge of said flat surface.
The bracket brackets 14 of FIG. 8 support the annular reinforcement member 26 which is in the form of an outwardly open U-member having its upper flange 27 attached to the base of the bracket brackets 14 while that its lower wing 28 constitutes the lifting surface.
In Figure 9, the elements forming chairs or 'sort.
15 are replaced by the annular angle iron 30, the large wing of which extends upwards along the height of the domed part forming the dome 11 and of which the shorter horizontal wing is fixed to the flat surface 12 of the above 10. Here * the supporting elements 14 supported the annular angle element 31 which has its horizontal flange 32 welded to the base of the brackets 14 and its vertical flange 31 spaced from the corrugated cylindrical wall 2 of the inner cover .
The structure of Figure 10 uses the annular member 33 as a chair which is frustoconical in shape and its foot 34 is welded to the flat portion 12 of the domed top 10. A series of vertical supports 35 reinforce the conical member. 33 in places similar to those represented by the location of the chairs or brackets 15 of FIG. 2. the flouring element; chair 33 is, of course, as are all these elements, high enough to support the lifting means of the inner cover, so that it does not crush or otherwise affect the part in question. dome 11 from above.
The bracket-brackets 14 of FIG. 10 support the element 36 in the form of a channel oriented inwardly with its upper wing 37 welded to the base of the elements 14 forming console supports and the lower wing 38 forming the lifting surface of the bar in the form of this element 36 with a U-profile. The extr. mites of the annular wings 37 and 38 are obviously spaced from the corrugated cylindrical wall 2 of the inner cover.
Although twelve brackets 14 are shown,
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
it is obvious that a greater or lesser number can be employed according to the requirements to support the annular element 13.
Referring to Figure 11, the smooth cylindrical inner cover 40 has a conical dome or top 41 welded around the perimeter of its peripheral surface 42 to the upper cylindrical end of the cylinder. A vertical chair in the form of two arched segments 43 and 44 is also sunk at the top or top of the cylinder and does indeed extend upward along this cylindrical surface.
A series of vertically arranged brackets 43 are welded along their longitudinal edges to the outer surface of the cylinder as well as to the outer surface of the standing chairs 43 and 44. There may be any desired number of such bracket brackets such as than six, eight or twelve. The base of each bracket-console is welded to the annular lifting bar 46 which, like the bar 13, is released from the cylindrical surface, so as to leave a large clearance between them. Thus, the total support load is transmitted by the support-consoles 45.
In the smooth cylindrical inner cover 47 of Figure 12, the lifting bar 48 is constructed in a manner similar to that of Figure 5 in that it is supported by bracket-brackets 50 similar to bracket-brackets 14, In addition to these brackets-consoles, the bars 51 forming the chairs also help to support the ring or the crown 48. The brackets 58 and the chairs 51 in the form of a bar are welded longitudinally to the sides of the cylinder so as to create a long and solid connection, the ring or the crown 48 is in turn welded to the base aea support-consoles 50 as well as to the base of the chairs 51 but it is kept clear and away from the cylindrical surface of the inner cover.
As is the case with all chairs, these chairs 50 are as high if not slightly taller than the domed portion 52.
