The present invention relates to therapeutic compositions containing indol derivatives to a process for the manufacture of such compositions and to their use for treating or preventing intravascular coagulation.
The use of anticoagulants such as heparin and bishydroxycoumarin in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular conditions involving intravascular co-regulation, such as coronary thrombosis, is well known. However, certain toxic manifestations may accompany the use of oee anticoagulant, including uncontrollable bleeding.
It has now been found that one can use, for the treatment and prevention of intravascular coagulation, some indol derivative which exerts only a relatively small effect on the time of sai - annoyance. The use of these indol derivatives decreases the adhesion of blood platelets while not appreciably affecting clotting times or prothrombin or recalcification times.
The indol derivatives used in accordance with the invention are compounds corresponding to the following formula:

in which R denotes hydrogen or an interior alkyl radical (preferably methyl, ethyl, or isc-propylated as well as the salts of these addition compounds with pharmaceutically acceptable acids (such as mineral acids, such as acid hydrochloric acid, hydrobromic acid, hydriodic acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, etc., and organic acids such as acetic acid, citric acid. as, tartaric acid, laetic acid, benzene-sulphonic acid, toluénseulfonique acid, etc.).
The aforementioned indol derivatives can be used for the prevention and treatment of intravasoular coagulation. Thus, they can be used to prevent and treat non-fatal pulmonary embolisms, as well as primary and post-operative thrombophlebitis and phlebothrombosis, as well as to prevent other venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and to minimize the possibility of subsequent chronic venous insufficiency, especially in the lower extremities.
These derivatives are also useful for treating sudden arterial occlusion resulting from thrombosis or embolism, as well as in the prophylaxis of postoperative venous embolism or thrombosis in patients who have previously undergone coagulation. intra-
