<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"Method of manufacturing welded products, and device for applying the method".
The subject of the present invention is a process for producing welded products, in particular tubes comprising at least one welded joint.
The welds, especially the electric welds, to date, are very defective and present irregularities: protuberances and cavities, from which a weak resistance of the joint resulted, the welded joints being the source.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
used as obstruction, particularly in tubes for the transfer of suspended products such as pulp.
The aim of the present invention is to obviate these drawbacks and to produce very uniform welds with respect to the surrounding surfaces of the tube. An object of the invention is also to provide the welded joints with considerably increased strength.
The method, object of the invention, is characterized in that the welded joint is subjected on both sides, to the action for example of rollers, pulleys, shoes or similar parts, both on the outside and 'inside the tubes which roll and compress the welded joint while still in the plastic state.
According to one characteristic of the invention, the rolling or compression members are combined on the internal and external faces of the welded joint. The rolling and compressing action thus provides an extremely smooth and polished surface of the welded joint, and the strength of the joint is enhanced due to the increased density of the weld.
Details of the invention will become apparent from the description with reference to the accompanying drawings:

The screws 11 and 12 engage respectively in the fixed parts 15 and 16, the arm 13 is fixed on a rod 17 which can pivot in the bearings 18 and 19; this arm can be provided with a second support roller 20. The arm 14 carrying the roller 9, pivots around 21 belonging to the cutout 22 which crosses the slot 2 at a place which is not yet welded; on another cutout 23 passing through the joint 2, the screw 12 acts. carried by the arms 43 and 44, articulated at 47 like the branches of birds, the pressure exerted on the welded joint, by the rollers 28 and 29, being regulated by the opening of the branched birds, by means of a via 45 engaged in the oral 43 and pressing against the arm 44.
According to the device in FIG. 3, it is possible to continuously produce curved welded tubes from flat sheets, the elements consisting of halves of cin- trio tubes to be welded in the diametral plane, along two concentric arcs of a circle. , the two halves being driven to the welding stations 33 and 34 by means of double-sided pulleys 38. Other halves of curved tubes 46 may be welded *. to the halves 37 already welded. The arms 43 and 44 pass through the joint. 32 in a not yet welded, the adjustment screw 4 being external to the tube.
The arms 43 and 44 are thin enough to pass through the slot 32.
In the assembly shown in Figures 4 to 7, the designates a frame, consisting of U-shaped crossbars, which provides great strength and rigidity, To the frame is fixed a mandrel 2a, around which the winding cylinder 4a rotates, on ele - .enta antifriction 3a. On the cylinder 4a, is wound continuously and in a spiral, the strip 50 delivered by a distributor, not shown, so that a tube 5a is obtained, the turns of which are juxtaposed to be welded together by a welding station. 70.
The suitable winding of the strip 50 on the cylinder 4a is provided by a conical pulley 80, preferably free to rotate on the shaft 110, and by a series of rollers 90 mounted on a helical support 100.
A permanent pressure on the weld which has just been produced is exerted externally by a cylinder 120 (which is only a portion of the shaft 110) disposed angularly by a portion of the shaft 110) disposed. and @ 1 "" "/ 1 @ in relation to the mandrel 2a, a permanent pressure; exerted also internally, by a small cylinder 130, mounted on
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
jib cranes 140 integral with the mandrel.
In general, the cylinder 120 is only a hardened part of the shaft 110 mounted in the bearings 150 of the frame. The rotational drive of the shaft 110 is obtained from the motor 160 by means of a chain 170.
More effective action on the welded joint results from the cylinder 120 having relative movement with respect to the welded joint; in other words, by driving it with a peripheral speed faster than the linear speed of driving the strip and the welded joint, the cylinder 120 tends to rotate and roll along the welded joint; he then exerted a leveling action on the welded joint.
In order to obtain tion, this effect of uniformized a device 180, which comprises two drive cylinders 190 and 200; regulates the driving speed of the belt 50 with at least one of the rolls being controlled. has a circumferential speed slightly less than the peripheral speed of the cylinder 120, which consequently slides and slides on the welded joint, thus strongly influenced, compressed, regularized, its surface being uniform, with respect to the surrounding surfaces of the tube.
Thus is obtained a compact welded joint, pressed, and very resistant * This speed difference results from the fact that the cylinder 190, for example, is connected to the shaft 110 by a chain 210 passing over the toothed wheels 220 and 230, otte the latter being of smaller diameter than that of toothed wheel 230.
In order to always obtain an effective support, and a good movement of the cylinder 120, which determines the rotation of the tube 5a, an adjusting screw 240 is engaged in the frame 1a and is supported at its base on a portion of increased gauge 250 of the shaft 110. Another adjustment device 260 makes it possible to support the tube 5a and to place it in the correct position for winding the strip 50. To bring the turns of the strip 50 exactly edge to edge under the welding station 70, another cy-
