<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Dans le but de mieux faire comprendre l'objet dit l'invention, on va en décrire maintenant à titre d'illustra- tion et sans aucun caractère limitatif, deux nodcs de réali- sation pris comme exemples et représentés sur le dessin annexé', sur lequel @ - la fig. 1 représente une vue en perspective d'un premier mode de realisation de l'invention ; - la fig. 2 est un? coupe transversale do l'appareil représenté sur la fig. 1 ; - la fig. 3 est une vue en perspective d'un second mode de réalisation de l'invention - la fig. 4 est une coupe h plus grande échelle selon IV-IV de la fig. 3 ; - la fige 5 est une vue en coupe selon V-V de la fig. 4 ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Apparatus for carrying out the automatic styling of * hair, It is known that, contrary to what happens during operations of permanent deformation of the hair which involves a modification of the chemical structure of the keratin, the operation generally known under the name of setting "consists essentially in giving the hair a determined shape without resorting to any chemical process and by limiting oneself to wetting and then drying them in a ') determined position which they tend to keep by milk until they are wet again,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Up to this day, styling of the hair has almost always been carried out by winding the strands of hair on curlers or styling rollers, followed by drying. This operation is particularly long and tedious.
The present invention relates to an apparatus which makes it possible to carry out in a simple and automatic manner the rese on of folds of a lock of hair, without it being necessary to carry out a winding of the pile on a support.
The object of the present invention is an apparatus which makes it possible to carry out the automatic styling of the hair, this device being characterized in that it comprises a channel having a helical and / or spiral shape, one end of which is can be placed close to the scalp so that the lock of hair can enter this channel while the other end of said channel is connected to a device producing a suction which introduces air into the channel previously warmed which dries the lock of hair in the desired shape.
In a more improved embodiment of the invention, there is placed around the first orifice of the channel into which the lock of hair is introduced a second hole, preferably concentric, which is connected to an enclosure which also communicates with the air. free and containing a heating device, so that when the second orifice is not closed, the suction device connected to the helical and / or spiral channel, causes the introduction of ambient air into this cansi , whereas when the second orifice in question is blocked, in particular by the fact that it rests on the scalp (the lock of hair then being introduced into the canal), the circulation of the suctioned into the channel,,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
is established through the enclosure that contains the. aforementioned heating device.
In another embodiment of the invention, * the enclosure containing the heating device is also found connected to the spiral channel and / or helix, by orifices which allow air circulation along the wick of hair to be subjected to the styling operation.
In order to better understand the subject of the invention, we will now describe by way of illustration and without any limiting nature, two embodiment nodes taken as examples and shown in the appended drawing ', on which @ - fig. 1 represents a perspective view of a first embodiment of the invention; - fig. 2 is a? cross section of the apparatus shown in FIG. 1; - fig. 3 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of the invention - FIG. 4 is a section h on a larger scale along IV-IV of FIG. 3; - Figure 5 is a sectional view along V-V of FIG. 4;
- fig. 6 is a sectional view of the device to which the device shown in fig 4 is connected.
We see in figs, 1 and 2 the channel 1 which has a helical shape with contiguous turns and whose end 2 opens into the open air while the end 3 is connected to a suction device not shown, but which can be constituted for example by a household vacuum cleaner or any other device of this type.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The channel 1 is completely enclosed in an enclosure or casing 4 which is provided with an orifice 5 that concentrates the orifice 2 of the channel 1 and of a slightly larger diameter.
The end 2 of the channel 1 is slightly set back from the wall of the casing 4 in which the orifice 5 is made.
A bypass channel 6 connected at 7 to channel 1 (used to constitute the handle of the apparatus described) ends tangentially at 8 inside the adjoining turns formed by channel 1. A series of orifices 9 connects the channel 1 to bypass channel 6. An electric resistor 10 is also placed inside the casing 4 in the vicinity of the orifices 11, the role of which will be explained later.
The metric supply of resistor 10 is preferably effected by means of a thorostatic device, not shown, which has the effect, on the one hand, of limiting the temperature reached by resistor 10 itself. even, and on the other hand to keep the air flowing in the vicinity of this resistance at a substantially constant temperature.
The operation of the device which has just been described is as follows:
The end of the lock of wet hair on which it is desired to carry out the styling is brought to the orifice 2 of the channel 1, after the operator has turned on the suction device to which is connected the 'end! of channel 3 and energized resistance 10 through the thermostatic device. The strong suction which occurs at the end 2 of channel 1 causes the rapid and automatic introduction of the wick inside the latter,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the bit winding in the form of a helix, as shown in fig. 2.
When the entire lock is introduced into the channel 1, the orifice 5 of the envelope 4 is automatically brought against the scalp in the vicinity of the lock of hair. It follows that the air sucked in through channel 1 can only come from casing 4, where it enters through orifices 11, to follow the path indicated by the flaps in FIG. 2, by heating up on resistance 10, then entering channel 1 where it dries the hair.
The orifices 9 connecting the channel 1 to the bypass channel 6 have the effect, on the one hand, of making the hot air circulate better through the lock of hair, and, on the other hand, of applying the lock of hair against the hair. part of channel 1 with the smallest diameter *
It should however be noted that the present of the bypass channel 6 and the orifices 9 constitute only an improvement of the invention and not one of its essential characteristics.
It can be seen that the operation of the apparatus according to the invention is particularly simple since the suction of the wick inside the helical channel is carried out automatically and the drying of. said wick is obtained without there being any modification whatsoever in the operation of the apparatus.
It results from the tests which were carried out with a prototype of the model which has just been described that it is possible to carry out under excellent conditions the styling of a lock of hair in a time of the order of 'one minute.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS.
3 to 6, the channel inside which the

lock of hair, has a spiral section and sits cons. , titué by a wall 12 wound along a decreasing radius of curvature (see sectional view in FIG. 4). The lateral ends of the spiral space limited by this wall 12 are closed off by soft walls 13 and 14 comprising two openings 13a and 14a connected to the suction tube 15 by two pipes 16 and 16a.
In this embodiment, we find the casing 4 which is also provided with an orifice 5 corresponding to the orifice 2 of the spiral channel delimited by the walls 12, 13 and 14.
It is clearly seen in fig. 5 how are the tubes 16 and 16a positioned in relation to the spiral channel
The casing 4 is connected to a tube 17 arranged parallel to the tube 15.
We find in fig. 6, on the one hand the end of the tube 15, and on the other hand the end of the tube 17,
The tube 15 is connected to the orifice 15a of a suction turbine which rejects the air to the outside through the grid 18 while the tube 17 is connected to the orifice 17a of a chamber 19 containing a electrical resistance 20, so that the air entering through the grill 21 is heated by passing over this resistance, passes through the tube 17 to end in the vicinity of the orifice 2 of the channel 1. The scalp closing the orifice 5 of the envelope 4, the hot air enters channel 1 in a spiral, dries the lock of hair, is collected by the pipes 16 and 16a to be finally ejected by the grid 18 after having passed through the pipe 15.
There is shown in FIG. 6 the results *? 22 which enables thermostatic sorting of resistance 20.
The operation of the device which has just been
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
described is the same as that of the device. shown in fig. 1 and 2.
This second embodiment has the advantage of being able to have an appliance which is very simple to handle and absolutely safe, since the entire electrical part of the device is located away from the head of the person who is undergoing the styling.
It can be seen that this second embodiment also makes it possible to automatically carry out the styling of a lock of hair.
When you want to make the miss in plia with a flat loop, that is to say a bit of horses of small importance that you want to wind flat on the side * of the face for example , it is possible to place on the orifice 2 of the suction channel a cover provided with a slot through which the wick can be wound.
Depending on whether you want to make the flat loop with winding to the right or with winding to the left, it is advantageous to use a cover having its slot on the right side or on the left side.
It is understood that the embodiments which have just been described are in no way limiting and may receive any desirable modifications without departing for this from the scope of the invention.
In particular, it is clear that the device according to the invention can optionally be used to effect the permanent corrugations in an automatic manner, on condition of course of subjecting the device which has been described to appropriations making it possible to adapt them carry out the necessary chemical treatments? hair perms.
