<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

In general, the cleaning of castings or other objects using a sandblasting apparatus, or sandblasting machine, can only be carried out if it is possible to dispose of these objects. in a closed cabin where sandblasting devices operate. When the dimensions of such objects prevent this arrangement, it is necessary to renounce cleaning with a sandblast and to carry out the cleaning in another way, that is, as a general rule, by hand. However, this is uneconomic, costly and unhygienic.
The sandblasting apparatus according to the invention allows cleaning to be carried out by hand in any desired location, outside an enclosed space.
In the sandblasting apparatus according to the invention, the air nozzle opens into a chamber open on one side and which communicates, through orifices or tubes, advantageously located in the vicinity of the periphery of this chamber, with a contiguous closed suction space in which there is a reserve of sand, the latter space being subjected to suction, by the nozzle effect, by means of a pipe opening in the vicinity of the nozzle.
The accompanying drawings show an exemplary embodiment of a sandblasting machine according to the present invention. In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is an axial and vertical sectional view
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken along line II-II of FIG. 1.
The device according to the invention comprises an inlet connector 1 for compressed air, to which can be connected a flexible hose, not shown. The air can be conveyed from this connector by means of a control valve 2 and through a tube 3, to a nozzle 4 which opens, through the entry of a nozzle tube 5, into a jet chamber A open below and delimited by a bell 6 of conical shape. The jet chamber A is surrounded by a closed suction chamber B delimited by a cylindrical envelope 15.
The jet chamber A communicates with the suction chamber B through one or more orifices or tubes 7 distributed uniformly around the periphery of the jet chamber In the narrowed lower part of the suction chamber B is provided a perforated annular tube 8 , connected by a tube 9 to the nozzle connection 5 '
The upper part of the suction chamber is separated from the lower part of this chamber by a horizontal sieve 14. In the space located above the sieve 14 opens a nozzle 11 whose communication with the inlet connector 1 for 1 compressed air is controlled by a valve 10.
The nozzle 11 is surrounded by a diffuser 12, leaving between the latter and itself an intake gap which constitutes an injector for the dust sucked into the chamber B by the tubes 7. To the diffuser 12 is connected a collecting bag dust 13.
The lower part of the suction chamber B constitutes a reservoir for the sand, closed by means of a hermetic cover, not shown.
At the lower edge of the jet chamber, A is provided a suitable stuffing liner 16, advantageously made of rubber or by brushes, which liner is applied against the treated object The casing 15 is provided with a handle 17 for handling the device.
The open conical horn 6 of the apparatus is applied against the object to be treated, such that the packing 16 comes into contact as intimately as possible with the surface to be treated, after which compressed air is blown into the nozzle. 4, through the valve 2. Under the effect of the vacuum thus created in the tube 9, the air is sucked into the perforated tube 8 and the air flow thus established carries away the sand which is in the lower part. from chamber B and delivers it through tube 9 to nozzle nozzle 5
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
from where the sand is entrained by the air current discharged from the nozzle 4 and is projected against the treated surface. The air contained in chamber A is evacuated by depression, through tube 7, towards chamber B.
A circuit of the air contained in the device is thus established. The excess air is evacuated by the diffuser 12. At the same time, the dust contained in the chamber B is entrained through the diffuser 12 and deposited in the bag 13. The screen 14 has been provided in order to avoid entrainment. grains of sand.
It follows that the apparatus according to the invention can be applied at any point of the object to be treated, without having to provide a cabin, provided that one has a- source of compressed air. The operation is adjusted using the two valves 2 and 10.
