The present invention relates to a propulsion device following a linear movement of an element such as a conveyor corridor or a shaking screen.
The controls currently used have the drawback of being very complicated and heavy and requiring the intervention of variable speed motors of a relatively high price.
The object of the invention is to make the assembly lighter and to ensure that the various movements are obtained by purely mechanical means allowing the use of a motor of any type.
This device is characterized essentially in that the element to be controlled provided with rollers each moving on a generally inclined track is subjected at one end to the action of a cam or an equivalent member. which rotates around an axis driven by a motor and which has a profile determined in such a way, when the element to be moved has reached the end of its stroke and at the same time has been lifted by the movement of the rollers , it is brought back abruptly to the starting point of its course by the combined action of gravity and a tensile spring bearing on the one hand on the element to be moved and on the other hand on the frame.
In order to make the invention fully understood, an exemplary embodiment thereof will be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l shows the installation in the position of the start of the positive action of the cam.
Figure 2 shows this installation in the position corresponding to the end of the action of this cameo
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown at 1 a transport corridor or a shaking screen and at 2 a frame which are integral with supports 3 in which a shaft 4 carrying a cam 5 rotates.
The screen or passage 1 is supported by rollers 6 moving on inclined planes 7 integral with the frame 20
These rollers and paths or inclined planes can be two, four, six, etc.
These inclined planes can optionally be made rectilinear.
On the side located vis-à-vis the cam 5, the passage 1 carries a roller 8 mounted idly which cooperates with the cam 5 in the manner described below.
A spring 9 working in traction is supported on the one hand on the frame 2 and on the other hand on the screen 1.
The assembly being in the position shown in Figure 1, we see that the cam 5, which rotates in the direction indicated by arrow F, acts on the screen 1 so as to move it horizontally in the direction indicated by arrow F1 in Figure 1 and that at the same time, the rollers 6 rise on the inclined planes 7 so as to cause a lifting of the screen 1 while the spring 9 is under tension.
The profile of the cam 5 is determined in such a way that when under the action of this cam, the roller 8 has reached the end of its travel (position 81 in FIG. 2), the spring 9 has been stretched to the maximum.
At this moment, as shown in FIG. 2, the cam 5 escapes contact with this roller; the screen is then no longer subjected to the action of the spring 9 and that of gravity and the roller 8 is suddenly returned to the starting point of its course. It then gradually resumes contact with cam 5.
On the other hand, the rollers 6 have been brought back to the feet of the inclined planes 7 which serve as their tracks and they re-gravitate these internal planes.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
clinched as soon as the roller 8 has resumed contact with the cam.
At the feet of the inclined planes are provided stops 10 which intervene so as to avoid any shock when the roller 8 is brought back to its starting point.
The spring 9 is calculated so as to obtain, with the combined action of gravity, a rapid, almost instantaneous return of the roller 8 to its starting point.
The force E perpendicular to the surface of the cam at its point of contact with the roller 8 has for support reaction the resultant of the forces created by the spring 9 and by the action of gravity on the moving masses; this force breaks down into a vertical force E 'and into a horizontal force E ": it is these forces E' and E" which provide the material to be displaced with the impulses necessary for their screening and their advancement.
The force E is minimum when the roller 8 is returned to its starting position and it reaches its maximum when the roller .0 has reached its arrival position at the end of the stroke by the action of the cam and it is obviously the same of the components E 'and E ".
On the other hand, as the speed of movement of the roller 8 under the action of the force E is fixed in such a way that it is lower than the return speed of the roller 8 under the action of the force created by spring 9, the impulse given to the mass to be set in motion under the action of force E is only partially reduced by that created by spring 9, the speed of this last impulse being such that the adhesion of the mass to be placed on the movement on the surface of the screen or of the passage is insufficient to obtain a drive in the direction of the return of the roller 8 to its starting position equal to that obtained under the action of the force E.
It follows from the foregoing that the displacement of the material to be screened or set in motion created by the impulse supplied to it by the force E is greater than the displacement of this material when this displacement is created by the impulse which is given to it ¯ under the action of the spring 9.
The difference in these displacements determines the progress of the material; this advance which is less than the travel of the roller compared to this travel fixes the efficiency of the device.
1 'The difference in level between the extreme positions of the rollers 6, that is to say the course of the material in the vertical plane determines the impulse given to it in this plane.
The construction described has the particularity of being entirely mechanical and allowing the use of any engine.
