<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

laughing or around said field, the purpose of this combination. being to produce a mechanical result from an electrical state and vice versa, such as motors. electric generators and rotary amplifiers, and in which the electric connection to the driving part of the machine is made by a collector., In particular, this invention relates to motors, - rotary generators and amplifiers intended primarily for alternating current, but also, in some cases, usable in direct current.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved electric machine of the type indicated.
In the accompanying drawings: Figo1 schematically shows an embodiment of an electric machine according to the present invention;
Fig.2 schematically shows an embodiment of a connection circuit for the machine shown in Fig.1;

that comprises a stator 1 and a rotor 2, the stator 1 being provided with two separate electrical windings DF and GH distributed in normal grooves of the stator and arranged so that the axes of their associated fields are perpendicular to each other. The other, and the winding of the rotor 2 is constituted by a number of coils aa, bb, cc, angularly spaced, connected in series and collected in a known manner by the pair of brushes yy.
The axes of the yy brushes are arranged perpendicular to the axis of the magnetic field associated with the stator winding GgghhH, which forms the field winding, and thus perpendicular to the field axis of the other winding. DddeeF, to which excitation is applied and which may hereinafter be conveniently referred to as the motor winding DF (M).
The commutator brushes yy are connected to each other in such a way that the shorted turns of the rotor winding produce an inductive compensation for the motor winding M. This arrangement has the advantage that the Motor winding M need not include a collector in its circuit and can thus be matched to any practical voltage without being limited by the insulation of the collector bar.
A suitable form of circuit arrangement for an AC motor of this construction is shown in Figo2. The field winding F and the motor winding M are effectively shunted across the AC power supply. The motor winding M is started by a variable ratio auto-transformer to provide a means of controlling the speed of the motor while a resistor R1 and a capacitor C are connected in series with the field winding F to report the phase of the current in this winding to that of the current in the motor winding M in order to achieve the required torque.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The motor could be reversed by reversing the field winding F or the motor winding M or by reversing the current flowing in both.
In a variant embodiment as shown in Fig. 3, each brush is replaced by a pair of yz brushes, each Y or Z brush of a pair being connected to a y or z respectively of the other pair, of such so that the turns of the rotor between the adjacent pairs of non-shorted balances on the arcs yz are adjacent to the turns of the field winding, and are more or less parallel to the magnetic field of the motor winding M.
In this way, compensation is achieved on the arcs, y-y and z-z between adjacent shorted brushes by the interplay of the turns of the rotor and stator within these arcs.
In a circuit connection diagram as shown in Fig. 4, the F field and M motor windings are branched as above.
In another alternative embodiment as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the field connection is made to the two pairs of shorted brushes and then the field winding is removed. The turns of the rotor winding on the arcs between adjacent shorted brushes form the field winding and armature compensation is achieved on these arcs by the shorted turn on the rotor.
With this arrangement, the brush resistance occurring in the excitation winding may be lower than that of the arrangement described previously, in which the entire brush resistance is reflected. in the motor winding.
As an alternative, another winding J-j-j-k-k-K as shown in Fig. 7 can be made on the stator for

form a magnetic field whose axis is at right angles to that of the motor winding M. and-winding JK is shown (Fig. 8) connected in series with the connections of the rotor RR to the brushes and with a capacitor C and a resistor R1. not'
In the above, only bipolar machines have been described, but machines can also be built. multipolar in accordance with the present invention and likewise, although only single-phase AC machines have been described, polyphase machines can also be constructed.
The machines described in Figs. 5 and 7 will also work in direct current, if the capacitor C is removed and in this case the resistance R can also be removed.
Although the preceding description relates exclusively to electric motors, it is understood that the machines as described above can be used as generators with self-excitation or with separate excitation, or as rotary amplifiers.
The machine as described above can be used advantageously in an electrical adjustment system, such as that described in the patent application, the subject of a filing made on May 14, 1958 in the name of the applicant.
In another alternative embodiment (not shown), a machine according to the present invention may have its motor winding and its field circuit supplied separately by two phases of a three-phase supply such as the supply, which is 120 out of phase, is connected to the field circuit. If necessary, for a more precise alignment, one can add in the circuit a resistor or a condessor.
If desired, in the assemblies shown in Figs. 5 and 7, the connections of notor R R can be
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
connected in the circuit not directly as shown in Figs. 6 and 8, but indirectly by means of a transformer to facilitate the adaptation of the impedance to the supply-
As previously described, a resistance
R1 and a capacitor C are connected in series in the field circuit, but both may be separately capable of bringing the phase of the current in the field circuit sufficiently close to that of the field circuit. motor winding M. In practice, a phase difference of 20, and frequently more, can be tolerated.
If desired, motor rework M can also have a capacitor connected in series with it (not shown) to compensate for the residual inductance of this winding.

Electric collector machine of the type referred to having a motor winding placed on the stator and a field circuit connected in branch to the latter, the field circuit comprising impedance connected in series to suitably relate the phase of the stator. current in the field circuit to that of the motor winding.
