<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Le dispositif à valve représenté sur le dessin comprend un corps principal 1 muni d'une entrée de gaz 2 et d'une sortie de gaz 3. A l'intérieur de ce corps se trouve une chambre 4 à travers laquelle le gaz passe de l'entrée 2 jusqu'à la sortie 3. Un plongeur 5 manoeuvrable à la main est monté coulissant dans la chambre 4 du corps 1 ; plongeur comporte, à sa partie supérieure un alésage cylindrique 5a ouvert à son extrémité supérieure ; il comporte à son extrémité inférieure des orifices latériaux 6, qui établissent des communications entre l'alésage 5a et la chambre 4. Le plongeur 5 est monté dans le corps 1 au moyen d'un écrou de presse-étoupe 7 et d'une rondelle d'étanchéité 8;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to a device with a safety shut-off valve of the electromagnetic type, which intervenes, in the event of a pilot flame being extinguished, to shut off the arrival of gas in burns and in similar devices supplied with gas.
In order for these safety devices to be able to operate under high gas pressures, it is necessary that the bearing surface of the valve is such that the action of the latter is not unduly affected by the load which imposes the pressure on it. .
The aim of the invention is to provide an improved valve cut-off device which satisfies this condition.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The electromagnetic safety cut-off device in accordance with the invention and intended for appliances supplied with gas comprises an inlet orifice, capable of being placed in communication with a first outlet orifice and a second outlet orifice, and a control device capable of connecting the inlet orifice to one or the other of the two outlet orifices, or to both these ports at the same time, the operation of this control device depending on the operation of a plunger and / or an electromagnetic device.
In order for the invention to be better understood, a particular embodiment will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the appended drawing, which shows in axial section a valve device according to the invention.
The valve device shown in the drawing comprises a main body 1 provided with a gas inlet 2 and a gas outlet 3. Inside this body is a chamber 4 through which the gas passes from l. 'inlet 2 to outlet 3. A hand-operated plunger 5 is slidably mounted in the chamber 4 of the body 1; plunger comprises, at its upper part, a cylindrical bore 5a open at its upper end; it has at its lower end lateral orifices 6, which establish communications between the bore 5a and the chamber 4. The plunger 5 is mounted in the body 1 by means of a gland nut 7 and a washer sealing 8;
a sealing ring 9 and a gasket 10 saturated with oil, of felt or other suitable material, are arranged between the nut 7 and the washer 8. The plunger 5 is normally kept in its inoperative position by a helical spring 11 housed in room 4.
In a chamber 27, located in the upper end of the main body 1, is mounted a valve assembly; this assembly comprises a body 12, provided with a bearing disc 13 formed by a suitable elastic material; this disc is normally pressed against an annular seat 14 by the action of a coil spring
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
15; this spring surrounds a rod 16; it engages at one end in a cavity of the body 12, and at its other end around a boss 17a of a member 17 for retaining the spring. The rod 16 passes through an orifice in the member 17 and a cap 18 for retaining the spring; a sealing ring 19, consisting of a washer of dry felt, is interposed between the parts 17 and 18.
A disc-shaped frame 20 is mounted on the upper end of the rod 16; when the plunger 5 is actuated, the armature 20 can come into contact with a solenoid 21 housed in a housing 22, screwed or otherwise mounted on the upper end of the body 1.
Solenoid 21 is supported in housing 22 by means of a support 23, through which a terminal 24 passes; an insulating washer 25 and an insulating sleeve 26 are interposed between the terminal 24 of the solenoid and the support 23; the assembly is held in position by means of a nut 22a.
An orifice 28, connected by a suitable pipe (not. Shown) to the pilot flame of the burner, opens into the chamber 27. Thus, when the plunger 5 is pressed by hand, the upper end thereof comes to in contact with the bearing disc 13, consequently closing the bore 5a and consequently the communication between the chamber 27 and the gas outlet 3. If you push more on the plunger 5, the body 12, 13 is raised , by moving it away from its seat 14, despite the opposite action of the springs 11, 15, and consequently the communication is established between the gas inlet 2 and the pilot orifice 28, while maintaining the closed communication between the 'input 2 and output 3.
The gas can therefore flow to the pilot flame, but not to the gas outlet 3- This continued movement of the plunger 5 also brings the armature 20 into contact with the electromagnet of the solenoid 21 which, when it is excited, keeps the body 12, 13 away from its seat 14. When the plunger 5 is released, its upper end is driven by the spring 11 and away from the body 12, 13; gas can then flow from inlet 2 to outlet 3. Gas can also flow
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
naturally flow from inlet 2 to the pilot flame through port 28, as long as the solenoid remains energized.
When the solenoid excitation is removed, the valve returns to its closed position, under the action of the spring 15, so that communications with the pilot flame and the gas outlet 3 are both closed.
The energization of the solenoid can be controlled in any way, depending on the nature of the apparatus with which the safety cut-out is used. However, the sol-enolde is preferably excited, in a well-known manner, by the current supplied by a thermocouple heated by the pilot flame.
