<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The present invention relates to a connection device for tubular elements.
The object of the invention is substantially characterized by the fact that it comprises at least one member (female) on which is mounted the end of the tubular element to be connected, with which member works a second male member housed in a seat of the first and provided with at least one radial projection disposed in a corresponding slot of the first female member, the device being completed by a screw means external to the end of the tubular element and perpendicular to it.

cular to the axis thereof, said means being intended to effect a reciprocal movement of the two members capable of causing the projection to emerge from the corresponding slot, creating a radial load on the inner surface of the tubular element, retaining the latter stably by friction.
The invention will be described by reference to the appended schematic drawings, given as an indicative example: Figure 1 shows in plan a preferred embodiment of the invention for the connection of five converging elements ;. figure 2 is: the cross section along line II - II of figure 1:
FIG. 3 shows the same device half-selected in elevation; Figure 4 is the plan of one of the connecting members (female); FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the other connection member (male): FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the assembled device: FIG. 7 is a variant of the fixing screw; Figure 8 is a perspective view of a variant of the expansion @bcage device:
FIG. 9 is a perspective view of a connecting member with four arms, of different types two by two; FIGS. 10 and 11 show respectively in section and in plan a connection device for a passing tube and an end tube;

Figure 12 illustrates a partially sectioned elevation of a device for four converging tubes and one through tube; FIG. 13 is a detail of an arm of the male member according to a construction variant; figures 14 and 15 show! a perspective view of two male organs with two opposing arms, which are com- posable;
FIG. 16 illustrates in perspective a male organ and two arms at 90 °;
FIG. 17 is the longitudinal section of an expansion locking device according to an alternative embodiment.
Referring to Figures 1 to 6, by A is indicated one of the connection members (female) formed by a central hub 1 and four cylindrical arms 2 to
80 between them and eoplanaires.
The other connection element B (male) is formed by a central hub 3 with four radial arms 4 to 90 between them and coplanar. To the hub 4 is connected a hollow cylindrical element 5, perpendicular to the first of the arms 4, provided with longitudinal grooves 6.
Component A has a central cylindrical seat 7 in which the arms 4 of component B. are housed.
Said arms have a longitudinal projection which is located in correspondence with the longitudinal openings 9 of the arms 2 (FIGS. 6 and 3). The disposii tif is completed by a screw 10 whose head rests on the central part of the ipoyeu 1 of the organ A and whose rod traverses in the axial direction the cylindrical element 5 and collaborates at its end with a truncated conical nut. than 11 housed in element 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The members A and B are arranged relative to each other as described and illustrated in Figures 1 and 3.
On the arms 2 of the member A are mounted the ends ofâ tubes to be connected (like the tube C, fig.l while a fifth tube is pushed on the element 5 so as to make a knot of a structure in which four tubular elements converge which are perpendicular to each other and coplanar with one element perpendicular to the first.
In order to achieve the stable connection of the tubular elements it suffices to act on the screw 10 so as to determine through the nut 11 a double action, of expansion of the element
5 which presses by friction on the inside surface of the tube, and reciprocal displacement of the A and B organs in the direction of increasing the output of the arms
4 through the openings 9 until the respective tubes are blocked by friction.
It is, of course, understood that the device could have a number of arms 2,4 different from four and differently oriented between them, while the element 5 for the fifth element may not be provided. Figure 7 shows a locking screw of a different type, in which the rod 12 is threaded on its projecting end outside the hub 1 where it collaborates with the operating nut 13 and is provided with a truncated conical head 14 for expansion of element 5.
Figure 8 shows an element 5 '(homologous to element 5 described) but separated from hub 3, so as to simplify the construction of the part and allow the use of the element or its elimination.

when it is convenient.
Figure 9 shows a member with four radial arms at 90 coplanar, comprising a central hub 1 '' and two pairs of opposite arms respectively indicated with 2 (female) and 4 (male) of the type corresponding to those indicated by 2 and 4 in Figures 1 to 6.
By using two members identical to the one illustrated, coplanar with each other and rotated by 9D with each other, a closure device is produced for four converging elements, corresponding substantially to the type illustrated in fig.1.
Figures 10,11, show a device adapted to couple two coplanar, orthogonal tubular elements, one of them passing through and the other at the head. The passing element is between two semicylindrical shells 15 and 16. The radial cylin- arm. drique 17, of the female type, is integral with the shell 16 (as indicated by 2 in fig. 3), while to the shell 15 is integral the radial arm 18 of the male type (as indicated by 4 in fig. 3).
On the arm 17 is threaded the end of the tubular element (not shown) to be joined end to end with the element D. A screw 19, working with the two parts, provides for clamping the shells 15 and 16 and to determine the relative movement between the arms 17 and 18 sum it was previously indicated for the locking by friction by the interior of the tube threaded on the arms 17 and 18.
FIG. 12 shows a device adapted to couple four converging coplanar elements in a node, with a passing element E, perpendicular to the four converging elements. In this case the hub
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
20 of the member provided with four cylindrical radial arms 21 has an axial hole of sufficient dimensions to contain the element passing through E.
A similar axial hole is presented by the hub 22 of the member (male) provided with radial arms 23, which, as in the example of Figures 1 and 6, has a cylindrical element 24 provided with longitudinal notches 26 (in in this case, the passing shaft E is inside element 24 instead of outside).
The device is completed by a truncated-conical locking ring 27, screwed onto the element 24 and collaborating with the threaded part 28 of the element itself in such a way that by acting on said ring, the closing under pressure of the element 24 on the tube E, and at the same time the relative displacement of the arms 31 and 23 'for the locking by friction from the inside of the ends of the four tubular elements (not shown), fixed on the radial arms.
Figure 13 shows a part of an organ of a male type whose radial arms 29 have the protruding toothed part, to ensure, by the effect of a possible deformation of the crest of the teeth (making contact with the inner surface of the tubular element)
the perfect and uniform adhesion of all the arms with their respective tubular elements.
Figures 14 and 15 illustrate two members of the male type; each with a central hub; / a pair of opposite radial edges 30 and 31 respectively, The two members are forced in such a way that by superposing the two hubs a member with four arms is produced (similar to the type illustrated in fig.5). It results
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
an easier execution, and, by suitably shaping the contact surfaces of the two hubs into a spherical cap, the possibility of reciprocal adaptation such as to guarantee perfect adhesion of the brax to the inner surface of the four tubular parts.
In Figure 16 the hub 32 is made -for only one half in an axial plane and has' two arms 33 to 90 between them. Two elements of the type illustrated provide a member with four arms as illustrated in FIG. 5.
Fig. 17 shows a cylindrical member 34 of the type illustrated in fig. 3 and indicated by 5, provided with four longitudinal slots 35. Inside the element 34 there is arranged an expansion locking means, consisting of four elastic fins 36 each arranged in correspondence with one of the slots 35. A frustoconical nut 37, collaborating with the locking screw 38 expands the fins 36 to press them under pressure against the inner surface of the element 36 threaded onto the part 34. This locking means guarantees that the element 34 will not be damaged (not) even if the device is closed without the corresponding tubular element being. mounted on element 34.
The device according to the invention, in addition to achieving rapid and safe coupling with parts almost hidden by the tubular elements, is always able to have all of its parts connected together, when it is not mounted. on the structure.
It is, of course, understood that the number of arms, their orientation and the construction details may vary from those illustrated without departing from the enclosure of the invention and starting from the
