<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

The present invention relates to a device for hooking and unhooking a first member from a second member, said members being guided along parallel lines.
The present invention is essentially aimed at the creation of a device operating automatically and carrying out, according to a predetermined program, the hooking and unhooking of a first member belonging to a machine to a second member belonging to the same machine. The invention therefore aims to create a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
such device which for determined movements makes the second member integral with the first. Although this invention can find many applications, it will however be essentially applied for the automatic hooking and unhooking of the tailstock of a machine tool to the carriage of this machine.
According to the invention one of the aforesaid members comprises at least one element which can be hooked onto an element of the other body, means being provided which carry out the hooking when the first member first moves against the second member. and then in the opposite direction and which perform the release when 1 @ first member repeats thereafter this same back and forth movement.
In an advantageous embodiment of the same invention, the aforesaid device comprises means preventing unhooking after the first reciprocating movement determined above.
In a particular embodiment of this same invention, the first member is a carriage and the second member is a tailstock of a machine tool.
In a preferred embodiment of the same invention, the first member carries an element having an opening in which can be lodged a projection of a lever mounted on the second member, such that when the first member executes its return stroke, the rim of the opening bears on this projection.
In a preferred embodiment of the same invention, the aforesaid lever is held by a spring with one end on a wheel having at least one hollow and a bump, the assembly being made in such a way that when said end is supported on a bump, the aforementioned projection is located in the aforesaid opening, while when said end is supported in a hollow, said projection is located outside the aforesaid opening, means being provided which impose a partial rotation on said wheel, sufficient to
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
that a bump is replaced by a hollow and vice versa each time the first organ performs a back and forth movement.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description of a device for hooking and unhooking a first member from a second member according to the invention, given below by way of non-limiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a device for hooking and unhooking a first member from a second member according to the invention.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of certain details of the device shown in Figure 1.
FIG. 3 is a plan view of certain details of the device according to the preceding figures.
In the various figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.
In Figure 1 the carriage of a machine tool has been designated by the reference 1, while the reference 2 relates to the tailstock of the same machine. This carriage 1 is to be considered as a first member and the tailstock '2 as a second member which are guided along parallel lines. The device according to the invention automatically hooks and unhitches the tailstock 2 to the carriage 1. When the carriage 1 is approached to the tailstock 2, the latter is automatically hooked which, provided with a tool. , can thus be advanced towards the part for a machining operation. When the operation is finished, the tailstock 2 is pushed back, which automatically detaches.
The location of the hooking depends on where the tailstock is located, as well as on the adjustment of the adjustable length of the hooking element 3 of the carriage 1. This release can take place anywhere.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
A U 3 iron is hooked below the carriage 1 by clamps 4. The length of the hooking iron 3, which protrudes from the side of the tailstock 2, is adjustable. This length is only determined by the place where the clips 4 fix the iron U 3 to the carriage 1. This element 3 has two openings 5 in the legs of the U. The element 3 fully engages in the element 6 which is integral with the movable tire 2. A stop 7 prevents @ @, the element 3 from going further into the element 6 soldary of the tailstock 2 In element 6 there is provided a limit switch 8. This limit switch 8 is interposed in the circuit of an electromagnet, not shown, the core 9 of which carries a ratchet 10.
On the axis 11 of the element 6 is freely mounted a wheel 12 which by its projections 13 constitutes a ratchet wheel. If no action by the ratchet 10 is exerted on the wheel 12, the latter is maintained in a fixed position with respect to the axis 11 because it is braked by the washers 14 and 15. The washer = the 15 is integral with the axis 11 while the washer 14 can move axially, but is applied against the wheel 12 by the spring, 16 which is provided between the movable washer 14 and a fixed washer 17. The washers 14 and 15 constitute only a braking device, but do not prevent the wheel 12 from undergoing partial rotation under the influence of the ratchet 10.
The wheel 12 has lateral cams on both sides and therefore bumps 18 and recesses 19. The distance between the projections 13, on the one hand, and the distance between the bumps 18 and the recesses 19, on the other hand, are such that adjacent protrusions correspond to a bump and a hollow. As a result, each time the ratchet 10 undergoes an up and down movement under the influence of the electromagnet 7, the bumps are replaced.

Two levers 20 pivot around the pivots 21, belonging to Isolation 6. A spring 22 mounted between the two levers 20 keeps the casters 23 of these levers: 20 on the side surfaces of the wheel 12. These casters. 23 are maintained according to the position of the wheel 12 on its axis 11 or else on bumps or in hollows. When the rollers 23 are applied to the bumps 18, the projections 24 of the levers 20 are located in the openings 5 of the element 3; if, on the contrary, the elements 23 are found applied in recesses 19, the projections 24 of the levers 20 are located outside the openings 5 of Insulation 3.
When the carriage 1 moves towards the tailstock 2 and the element 3 strikes against the stop 7 after having closed the switch 8, the electromagnet is energized, attracts its core 9 and consequently gives an upward movement ratchet 10.
The wheel 12 then receives a partial rotation of a value such that the rollers 23 which were in the hollows 19 come to be placed on the bumps 18 The projections 24 enter the openings 5 The iron U 3 by returning with the carriage to which it is fixed must travel a distance 25 before the flange 26 of the openings 5 comes into contact with the projection .24 and it is only after having traveled this distance '25 that the retreating carriage drives the tailstock 2. This distance, 25 is sufficient to break the contact in the switch 8. The core of the electromagnet drops and the ratchet 10 descends one tooth on the ratchet wheel 12.
When the operation is finished, the iron U 3 by pushing back the tailstock 2 again presses the switch 8 which, by dropping the rollers 23 of the levers 20 into two hollows 19, releases the iron U 3 for the return stroke .
The description given above does not take into account the switches 27 and 28 interposed in the circuit of the electromagnet and assumes that these switches remain closed. If he
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
is thus, the hooking is achieved when the carriage first moves against the tailstock and then in the opposite direction, while the release is achieved when this first back and forth movement of the carriage is followed by a second back and forth movement.
The carriage 1 first moves in the direction of arrow 29 and brings the iron U 3 into the element 6; by turning over, the carriage 1 drives the tailstock 2 by the fact that the edges: 26 of the openings 5 come into contact with the projections 24.
When the carriage 1 subsequently returns in the direction of arrow '29, the projections 24 have come out of the openings 5 but the tailstock 2 is pushed by the fact that the iron U 3 strikes against the stop 7. When, finally, the carriage 1 returns in the opposite direction to that of the arrow 29, the iron U 3 can come out of the element 6 and no longer drives the tailstock 2.
After the first back and forth movement referred to above, the stall can be delayed by very simple means. In fact, it suffices to interrupt, for example by means of switch 27, the circuit of the electromagnet so that the ratchet wheel 12 maintains its position and prevents unhooking. For programmed cycle operation, the opening of the switch 27 can be controlled by a cam disc 30. Similarly, a cam disc 31 can restore the current cut by the manual switch 32. This disc 31 closes by its cams switch 28.
It will easily be understood that the production of a device automatically hooking and unhooking the tailstock from the carriage of a machine tool results in numerous advantages. The saving of time is in particular very important, while the precision and the quality of the work which is carried out automatically increases appreciably.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made to it, in particular as regards the form, the number, the composition and the arrangement. elements involved in its production, without departing from the scope of the present patent application.
Thus, for example, the automatic hooking up and unhooking can be achieved by a device completely different from that described above.
