<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Very often high power electric machines are fitted with a heat exchanger arranged around the machine and in which the interior air which is artificially circulated by the machine is cooled by a current of air. outside that circulates on the surface or through the heat exchanger. Most often, this heat exchanger is placed between the active part of the machine and an outer casing.
It can be, for example, in the form of a sheet with deep corrugations, or in the form of meanders, whose ends perpendicular to the direction of the corrugations are joined together and to the flanges of the lace machine so that the spaces between the wavy lines

Lations constitute channels serving, on the one hand, for the passage of the interior air current and on the other hand for the circulation of the exterior air.
In order to obtain good heat exchange, the sheets delimiting these channels are generally as thin as possible.
The same principles apply when the cooling channels consist of a system of suitably arranged tubes.
In the known embodiments of machines of this type, the sheets or tubes constituting these cooling channels are made of ordinary steel and are permanently fixed to each other and to the machine, for example by welding,
The machines in question are preferably used in places where the available cooling air contains impurities. The walls of the ducts are exposed to corrosion and after a long service life they can end up perforating, making the machine unusable, this risk being particularly great in cases where the impurities contained in the air from cooling are formed by aggressive vapors or mists, as often occurs in chemical plants.
The application of a protective anti-rust coating certainly reduces these dangers, but does not eliminate them completely. It would obviously be possible to completely eliminate this danger by making the walls of the cooling channels in a steel which is resistant to corrosion.
However, the high price of special materials of this kind would significantly increase the cost of constructing the machine.
The present invention relates to an electric machine of the type described above, which is surrounded by a heat exchanger disposed between the active part of the machine.

and an outer casing and in which an inner flow of air artificially caused by the machine is cooled by a flow of outer air which circulates over the surface or through said heat exchanger.
According to the invention, the drawbacks described above are eliminated by constituting the heat exchanger by a set of refractive elements, the shape and method of removable attachment to the machine are such that said cooling elements form, for the circulation of interior air, channels which are isolated from the stream of exterior air, said cooling elements being simultaneously easy to dismantle and replace.
The accompanying drawings, provided purely as an illustration, show two exemplary embodiments according to the invention.
The outer frame of the machine to which the package of stator plates 1 is fixed, consists of a certain number of radial ribs 2 comprising at their ends shoulders 3 which are welded at their end faces with rings 4 at their ends and at their ends. the periphery, the ribs are welded on centering rings 5 serving to fix the bearing flanges 6. The machine is surrounded on the outside by a sheet metal casing 9, the various elements of which are fixed on the ribs in a removable manner , preferably with screws. These envelope elements can be either bent in a circular shape or planar so that the end of the envelope has a polygonal shape.
The ribs are provided longitudinally with flanges 7 which are joined to each other by cross members 8, the set of flanges
7 and crosspieces 8 constituting quadrangular frames on which the cooling elements are mounted.
The cooling elements here each consist of a folded sheet 10 with very deep corrugations,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
or meanders, the front ends of said sheets being cut at a bevel. At the locations of the bevel 11 the neighboring edges of the sheet are bent towards each other in pairs and welded together and with a narrow transverse strip of sheet 12. The longitudinal sides of the corrugated sheets form together with the transverse strips. 12 a continuous flange making it possible to fix the cooling element, for example by means of screws, on the quadrangular frame mentioned above, and this with the possible interposition of a tight seal.
An intermediate flange 13 ensures complete separation between, on the one hand, the interior space of the machine, comprising the interior cooling channels formed by the interior face of the corrugated sheets and, on the other hand, the exterior space. of the machine, including the channels which are formed by the outer face of the corrugated sheets and which serve for the circulation of the external cooling air.
Two fans 14 and 15, arranged on the shaft of the machine, ensure active circulation of the air respectively in the interior channels and in the exterior channels in order to promote heat exchange, the interior currents. and cooling exteriors being symbolized respectively in FIG. 1 by arrows in solid lines and in broken lines.
Figures 4 and 5 show a somewhat different embodiment according to the invention, in which the cooling elements are formed by batteries of tubes 16, said tubes being bent at their two ends as shown in the figure and welded to the corresponding orifices made in a sheet metal flange 17 in the form of a crown. This crown of sheet metal. allows you to attach heat exchanger,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
analogous to the flanges of the previous example, on the frame formed by the flanges 7 and the cross members 8.
In this way, here too, a complete separation is achieved between, on the one hand, the internal space of the machine comprising in particular the internal space of the tubes, which acts as internal channels of the machine. cooling and, on the other hand, the external cooling channels. As for the rest, the arrangement is 'the same as in the execution mode described in the first place.' @
In either case, it is easy, after removal of the outer casing 9, to remove the heat exchanger elements, to check them and, if necessary, to clean them or even replace them. This work can even be done while the machine is running.
Either way, if the cooling elements become damaged, this requires only limited repair work which can be easily and quickly carried out on site.
It goes without saying that the present invention cannot be limited to the examples of execution described. It is possible to achieve an arrangement according to the invention by adopting other constructive forms for the frame of the machine or the heat exchange elements. Likewise, the path of the cooling air may be different. It is in particular possible to circulate the external cooling air in the opposite direction to the internal flow.
It goes without saying that instead of fasteners by welding, one can resort to any fastener which will make the same use, for example soldering or crimping.
